So am I going away on 28th or not?

And yes I know it’s probably 100th thread on this but I’m feeling Boxing Day lazy so I’m starting another.

I’m meant to be driving from Bristol to Newcastle in a couple of days to visit DP family and, like many, really can’t make up my mind whether or not I think it’s likely to happen. Obviously with the PM keeping quiet on this none of us really have any definite answers but if you were a betting woman do you think I’ll be on the road or not? I’ve done a news and Twitter scour nowt to make brain a bit clearer on this.

Thank you.

I think so, yes

oftenbaffled · 26/12/2021 08:20

I’d almost 100% reckon on yes given omicron 50/60% less severe

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/12/2021 08:26

We're going to Butlins tomorrow, I'm confident it will go ahead now. I think if any restrictions come in it will be after new year.

Sunsetsupernova · 26/12/2021 08:27

We are going away for new year for a couple of days and last week I was convinced it wasn’t happening. Now however, I’m much more positive about it. I think you’ll be pretty safe with the 28th

VikingOnTheFridge · 26/12/2021 08:28

I'd be surprised if any restrictions to prevent it are bought in before then. Because of practicalities with timing, and because the Tory backbenchers will rebel.

RedToothBrush · 26/12/2021 08:28

If something is going to happen pre new year my suspicion would be we will know by tea time today.

I believe we have to recall parliament so that would need to be done today, so it can reconvene tomorrow or Tuesday. Then restrictions would come into force probably on the 28th.

If they move later than that people will have already moved for their celebration and it will cause even more chaos for the hospitality industry.

So my best guess is if you have not heard anything by the end of today you are probably ok.

As it stands, i think it was leaning towards things staying as they are as the data was better than expected (largely because behaviour changed more than expected to preserve Christmas). My worry is people will now think if there are no restrictions they are free to go party because omicron isn't a risk and thats going to reverse this trend pretty damn quick. The data for London is a whisker off the point marked for action so its knife edge stuff.

My gut feeling is if we don't have some intervention January is going to be a car crash. Especially as its starting to seem boosters only really last at full effectiveness for 10 to 12 weeks...

Will be keeping half an eye on the news today...

And because the absolute fact that omicron is much much less severe!

We're off to Blackpool on Wednesday with a friend and her daughter. As long as the hotel is open we are going, whatever the restrictions are. I'd rather eat in the restaurant but will get takeaway to room if we must. However I think it'll go ahead as normal. We live in wales and I'm ignoring any new restrictions. Herr Drakeford can get fu*d.

WouldIBeATwat · 26/12/2021 08:30

DH should be doing similar today but decided against it despite there being no restrictions preventing it.

With infection levels rising he didn’t feel comfortable trekking from house to house visiting relatives who might then pass it to his very elderly grandfather (for whom it is highly unlikely to be mild) or his parents who care for him.

I think it will be anyway from all of yesterday’s mixing.

Yes you are

My point is yesterday plus people letting their hair down after yesterday is a particularly bad combination.

I work in the Welsh NHS. Whatever you think of Drakeford this is the equivalent of sticking 2 fingers up rather than clapping the NHS. We are absolutely drowning due to staff burnout and absence. Sad

Would you have put your lights on during the Blitz?

Red that's a perfect summary of everything I'm too lazy to bother thinking properly. You're a genius or summat.
newlabelwriter · 26/12/2021 08:59

@RedToothBrush - thank you. That’s the detail I’ve wanted. We had a small, but perfectly formed, Christmas yesterday and when (if) we’re away, we’re able to see people but lucky to have somewhere to stay alone as a family when we’re there.

Meh, Omicron is rife, had brother, nephew and DD’s boyfriend’s whole family test positive yesterday.
We need to get on with our lives, might as well try to shield ourselves from oxygen!

newlabelwriter · 26/12/2021 09:07

DH had it, well Covid, not sure if was Omnicron was in the very early days of it. We all had same symptoms but had negative results but I’m still convinced we did too. I’m only saying this as personally health wise I’m not worried but will go along with with restrictions annoying as they bloody well are 🙄.

Slightly less gloomy scenario

Rollergirl11 · 26/12/2021 09:20

I hope you get there OP!

We are going to Liverpool to visit DH’s family for a few days tomorrow and then we have a cottage booked in the cotswolds for NY. Was expecting we wouldn’t be able to do either but am now hoping we can at least get to Liverpool.

ShakespearesSisters · 26/12/2021 09:23

Having seen comments on another post there will be a lot more cases than actually accounted for as most everybody on it weren't bothering to get a PCR if they felt rough and had a positive ltf. They were thankfully isolating though but it means the number of cases is well off for symptomatic cases let alone unsymptomatic

TheKeatingFive · 26/12/2021 09:24

I doubt they'd be practically able to get anything through by the 28th, even if they wanted to. You're safe enough.

Siameasy · 26/12/2021 09:50

I think it will be fine. Also, lots of people go away for the entire period and they aren’t going to suddenly leave or boot people out mid war through a stay.
I wonder if he will “advise” things rather than legislate.

milly74 · 26/12/2021 09:57

Anyone with plans stick to them restrictions or not. We need to stand up for ourselves!

I would but if Butlins closes I can't really do much about that Grin
