LFT's on Xmas Day

togymornottogym · 23/12/2021 13:43

Are people who are spending Christmas with extended family going to do LFT's on Christmas morning?

I certainly am as we will be spending it with two asthmatic 60 somethings, and two more in their 80's and 90's.

However, have popped a message on the family WhatsApp chat just checking everyone else was ok to do the same and everybody seems to be ignoring it. Just wondering if I was wrong to suggest it?

Yes - we had all decided independently to take them and since then discussed it - so all good. Most of us are regularly taking them anyway and it’s no hassle!

Figgygal · 23/12/2021 14:59

Yes we spending it with elderly in-laws one of whom has asthma so all testing
9 people in total

TheBestUsernamesAreGone · 23/12/2021 15:04

Yes, we are seeing elderly relatives (unless we test positive tomorrow before we go). Have explained to DD11 that if the worst happens and we test positive on Christmas Day morning then we will have to load the cat up and come home straight away.

Load the car up not the cat!!

OUB1974 · 23/12/2021 15:11

We're going to do one tonight and tomorrow night (not Christmas morning, I'd rather know the night before if our plans are changing). We are at my sisters with our parents, siblings and families, and we'll all be doing one. Have emergency food in the freezer if it all goes wrong...

InconvenientPeg · 23/12/2021 15:12

Yes we are. MIL is quite poorly, and I know they've turned down some invites because she's worried about catching it, it very much could be fatal for her.

Caaarrrl · 23/12/2021 15:21

The only reason that we will not test before visiting family on Christmas day is because we've all had covid in the past 90 days. Otherwise, we would be.

NanooCov · 23/12/2021 15:27

We are not spending Christmas with family but are going to see them on the 28th and will all do LFTs in advance (bar DS2 who had Covid a few weeks ago). It's just polite really.

Siameasy · 23/12/2021 15:39

Nope. It’s up to you. I’ve spoken to people I’m seeing and said we aren’t testing and they’ve all said they aren’t either.

togymornottogym · 23/12/2021 15:48

Thanks everyone. Have had a response now from one person to say they will, but not the others. I'm not sure if I think it's a deal breaker if they were to say no as I genuinely didn't think it was that big a deal so it didn't occur to me that anyone would be unhappy about it.

Absolutely yes! Travelling in the morning yo spend Christmas with 2 90+ year olds and a nearly 70 year old. They are also testing no probs at all.

Bobholll · 23/12/2021 17:04

I’m gone do them on us all tomorrow at the kids bedtime. That way we can make emergency plans should we need too! Might double check the adults on Christmas Day but probably not the kids ..

Yes. On the morning, not night before as visiting CEV. Zoe app and others have reported people turning positive and infectious in shorter time frames with Omicron

I took a negative lft at lunch time. Took another early evening as DH had already tested positive the day before and I was beginning to develop the same symptoms. Evening test was very strongly positive. In those few hours, the viral load had built up enough to show on the lft. This wasn't omicron though, probably delta.
Stripyhoglets1 · 23/12/2021 19:12

Yes. Its the only way to try to protect vulnerable relatives as vaccine clearly not enough against omicron.
Testing today then ever morning we see people
