LFT's on Xmas Day

togymornottogym · 23/12/2021 13:43

Are people who are spending Christmas with extended family going to do LFT's on Christmas morning?

I certainly am as we will be spending it with two asthmatic 60 somethings, and two more in their 80's and 90's.

However, have popped a message on the family WhatsApp chat just checking everyone else was ok to do the same and everybody seems to be ignoring it. Just wondering if I was wrong to suggest it?

Yes we are. CEV MIL so don’t want to risk it.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 23/12/2021 13:45

We are, we're seeing friends so it's the right thing to do.

chocolateisavegetable · 23/12/2021 13:56

Absolutely

JanglyBeads · 23/12/2021 13:57

It’s the advice everywhere.

Popfan · 23/12/2021 14:05

Yes we are

Donatella · 23/12/2021 14:08

I will (or possible Christmas Eve evening instead to save hassle in the morning) but that's as much because I am working Christmas Day as anything else.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 23/12/2021 14:11

Getting a similar response here from my batshit brother in law who refuses to get a vaccine, and MIL who is (resentfully) vaccinated so is therefore incapable of catching it. I think they both work on the basis that if they don't know they are we are contagious, it's not happening.

InTheLabyrinth · 23/12/2021 14:18

I think those that are likely to listen to a message on a WhatsApp group were probably going to test anyway. Those that aren't going to test before visiting will just ignore any suggestion to do so.

Personally, yes, we are testing. But I'm not asking if anyone else is. They will do them, and we will take the risk, having removed as much risk from us as we can.

Chimpychoo · 23/12/2021 14:18

We're doing ours on Christmas Eve evening, purely so I've go time to get the reserve Christmas dinner out of the freezer to defrost - we're meant to be at a relative's on Christmas day, but I thought I'd be prepared in case any of us test positive.

EBearhug · 23/12/2021 14:22

On Christmas Eve before I drive. I've been asked to do so, but had been planning it before then.

ifonly4 · 23/12/2021 14:24

Only five of us xmas day, but we will be - well my Mum will be if she can figure it outGrin. Just spent ages trying to talk her through it and needed to be close as she just wasn't getting it. Three really don't want to catch it.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 23/12/2021 14:24

Yes we are and so are guests on the 27th. It's much safer than just being vaccinated. If anyone had refused they would have been uninvited

MatildaIThink · 23/12/2021 14:27

I think most people I know will be doing one, especially those who are visiting anyone potentially vulnerable. However I also find something annoyingly pushy about those that demand LFTs before visits.

PineappleWilson · 23/12/2021 14:28

We're testing tonight, as DM arrives tomorrow, and again on Christmas night before going to DD's on Boxing Day. The joy of having divorced parents.

Chloemol · 23/12/2021 14:32

Yes we all are, 7 of us

Thepineapplemystery · 23/12/2021 14:33

That's the plan. Though we're currently awaiting a PCR anyway.

Rainbows246 · 23/12/2021 14:40

Yes we all are as my dads vulnerable health wise. Just before we meet up. I do them
Regularly anyway.

DixieSun · 23/12/2021 14:42

Yes

girlmom21 · 23/12/2021 14:42

We'll do one before all our Christmas meet-ups but you've left it a bit late to ask if it's a dealbreaker

Siuan · 23/12/2021 14:43

I am CEV. DS25 has been out a lot in last week. He tested before he came to stay yesterday and is testning every morning while here. We'll all test before visitors come on Saturday. You really should do it immediately before going to family as well. Things can change very quickly.
Mybalconyiscracking · 23/12/2021 14:44

Now you do know that if you totally refuse to have anything to do with COVID, or its precautions, then it gets the sulks and goes away?

Newnamedillydally · 23/12/2021 14:47

Absolutely normal to do one before meeting up in our family. It’s the responsible thing to do, whoever you are planning to spend the day with.

dollywoodlooksgood · 23/12/2021 14:50

Yes, we are - and I’d refuse to spend the day with anyone who didn’t want to

BigBenji · 23/12/2021 14:53

Yes

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 23/12/2021 14:58

Yes we'll be doing them before our pensioner guests set off as will they. I'm the CEV person with no immunity though.
