And some of her opinions were so out there and aggressive I had to walk away. Apparently if we hadn't vaccinated against measles we'd all be ok because measles provides immunity. And actually measles never hurt anyone. And polio never hurt anyone either. People being seriously ill was a conspiracy designed to get us to accept vaccines back in the day, al" heading towards the greatest conspiracy of all and that is population control and the existence of Covid. She apparently knows loads of "elders" who nursed people through polio. Apparently it's very mild. I asked her to define "elders" and she talked about my generation. My generation were vaccinated. No one had polio, never mind nursed others. And there is no Covid in Africa. And no Covid in Nepal. She knows this because she once went on holiday to Nepal. And she is applying to remove her children from Steiner to homeschool them because vaccinated teachers (it's mandatory here) are a poor moral example. Either that or are being forced . When I said that I didn't know a single teacher who had been vaccinated against their will (and I know loads having been a teacher for 20 years) she said that was just my opinion and one opinion counted for nothing. I had to leave her company.

We’ve got local ones taking the local health minister to court, coz there’s no such thing as Covid, it’s all a conspiracy.

PAFMO · 22/12/2021 08:28

Cancel her forthwith. Life's too short.
I've got a "friend" who believes in some sort of vibrational therapy thingy. Apparently if she "imbues" a phial of special water with the Covid "imprint", and somebody holds it in their hand, the "imprint" enters their immune system. She tests this by getting you to hold the special water up in the air in your hand, then she suddenly brings her own hand down on your arm. If your arm falls (like it's going to, because you aren't expecting it) it's not worked yet, so you have to have another session. Second time around, she finds resistance in your arm (nothing to do with you knowing what's coming at all at all, oh no) and it means you have immunity.
She's been at it for years, but obviously Covid is like all her Christmasses have come at once.
She homeschools because teachers told her son off.

I am in fairly regular contact with an anti vaxxer due to my business. Lovely person. Until you get on the topic of COVID. I am not talking about reasonable uncertainty about vaccine efficacy or side effects either; I am talking full blown conspiracy theories and its a bit like The Matrix meets 1984. I honestly dont know where to put my face.

Mrsjayy · 22/12/2021 08:35

They are probably not old enough to know anybody who had polio I knew a few older people who were left permanently disabled because of it, someone I know had a brain injury caused by measles. I've family members who ate antivaxxers they are absolutely bonkers!

Twizbe · 22/12/2021 08:37

Do you want to tell your friend that my uncle lost the use of his arm to Polio?

My aunt lost her hearing in one ear due to measles

My husband lost a testicle to mumps

Thank god for vaccines huh?

Mrsjayy · 22/12/2021 08:42

I know someone who was left with a brain I jury after they had measles.

Fendidntdrake · 22/12/2021 08:55

I met one in the Summer. He was going to email a YouTube video to Boris Johnson as "evidence".
He had mental health problems and I felt sad his vulnerability was being exploited.
Does anyone know to what end this conspiracy is supposed to be? I can't work it out.

dudsville · 22/12/2021 09:02

Two good friends of mine fall into this camp. We get in fine by not discussing it and being mutually respectful, much in the way I (atheist) am with religious friends. Another 3rd friend of my OH we have just stopped socialising together as she couldn't be respectful about it and her lifestyle we felt was too risky.

Flingingmelon · 22/12/2021 09:04

My neighbour is an anti vaxxer. Otherwise she's lovely and sensible.

We just avoid talking about it. It makes my brain melt just thinking about it.

Tillymintpolo · 22/12/2021 09:07

My mum’s older brother died of polio at 18 months in the pre vax days, it destroyed my gran. These people have never known a pre vax world, they are idiots

luinagreine · 22/12/2021 09:10

My aunt lost her hearing in one ear due to measles

My husband did too. He is deaf in one ear and partially deaf in the other. I think with vaccines being around for so long people forget/don't realise the effects these illnesses can have.

SueSaid · 22/12/2021 09:13

If people won't have a vaccination there's nothing I can do about it, but I don't want to hear them wang on defending their poor decisions.

Why do they feel the need to argue about it?! just stfu, be grateful a large percentage of the population have been vaccinated so we've been able to have a normal life since July.

I wonder if they actually feel a bit ashamed hence their need for constant validation?

rslsys · 22/12/2021 09:13

I would have had an older brother, had he not been lost to polio.

NandorTheRelentless · 22/12/2021 09:14

I think you're very right, I dont know anyone affected by polio, measles, etc.

I know why, but for anti vaxxers you can almost see their point if you squint

Mooster62 · 22/12/2021 09:15

There is no arguing with stupid.

DottyHarmer · 22/12/2021 09:19

I was trying to make this point on another thread, but not very well!

Dh’s brother died of measles. He was ten.

Theunamedcat · 22/12/2021 09:19

I thought I didn't know anyone but it turns out my mom has one leg shorter than the other because of polio

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/12/2021 09:20

When I first qualified it wasn’t that unusual to see a polio survivor in a built up shoe and callipers but I’ve not seen one for years so I’m assuming they didn’t live into their 80’s or I’d still be treating them. Polio was an exam question.

I wonder what she thinks of smallpox? Tis’ but a scratch.

SueSaid · 22/12/2021 09:22

Someone said to me they'll take their chances and they could be run over by a bus tomorrow. An overweight asthmatic seriously thinks its a comparable risk.

I mean if there was a road full of buses flying along you'd use a zebra crossing wouldn't you, not just step out with your eyes closed and hope for the best..

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/12/2021 09:25

@Tillymintpolo

My mum’s older brother died of polio at 18 months in the pre vax days, it destroyed my gran. These people have never known a pre vax world, they are idiots
This is a really good point. None of my school peer group died until I was 17 and some lads decided drunk driving and not wearing seat belts was a good idea.

In the 1920/30’s you would have lost relations and class mates from illnesses we vaccinate against now & you’d know early on life is very real & it’s very fragile.

Mrsjayy · 22/12/2021 09:27

A few of the people I knew who had polio lived into their 70s and my upstairs neighbour was in he 80s

DottyHarmer · 22/12/2021 09:27

My aunt was saying that she met a couple she knows shortly after the vaccination programme started, and as was normal back then, she asked if they’d been called yet. “oh, no, we don’t believe in vaccines” they replied. Aunt gave them (and their poetry society!) a wide berth afterwards, but she said she saw them in Budgens the other day maskless in spite of many signs imploring customers to wear them.

Sadly it does seem that those against vaccination are also anti-mask and of the “no one tells me what to do” persuasion.

Bebeschitt · 22/12/2021 09:27

I had the 'pleasure' of speaking to one at work a few months ago. She was lovely and then all of a sudden started spouting shite. She was telling me that people who were double vaccinated would be either amputees or dead within 6 months, all the BBC live broadcasts from hospitals showing how busy they are involved actors and on and on.

I was stunned into silence. The worst part? She was an ambulance driver in London.

Mydogisagentleman · 22/12/2021 09:30

My DD boyfriend is a vaccine refuser!
On the surface he is a rational lad, scratch the surface and he is prepared to go to prison for life if covid vax become mandatory.
TBF, he has never tried to dissuade dd from hers.
She is doubly done and considering the third

vera99 · 22/12/2021 09:31

One conspiracy is that the billionaire class realise that climate change population numbers will destroy the earth and that the earth's population needs to be brought down to 500 million so that their families and class can continue. The virus was released to create the scare and that the vaccines will begin to kill everybody in the next 2-3 years otherwise known as 'The Plandemic' or 'Great Reset'. The ones that are aware of this are 'Awake'.

They also think folk like Piers Corbyn and David Icke are wise and great leaders.
