Hi please could someone tell me if this lateral flow test looks positive or just dodgy. My son has symptoms and used the last one and it came out like this. Thank you

Positive 😔

CagneyNYPD1 · 21/12/2021 22:11

I would say that's probably positive. PCR needed.

MousesBack · 21/12/2021 22:11

I think positive.

Moolia · 21/12/2021 22:11

Positive

StepAwayFromGoogling · 21/12/2021 22:11

Yep, pretty sure that's a positive.

Disneyvillain · 21/12/2021 22:11

Looks positive sorry x

KittensWearingWoollyMittens · 21/12/2021 22:13

Looks positive but it would be wise to get a PCR test done

CSJobseeker · 21/12/2021 22:13

That's a clear positive

Thevengabusiscoming · 21/12/2021 22:15

Ah bollocks. Thank you everyone I have booked a home pcr doubt I will get the results before Christmas 😔 aw well least it will be a quiet one

If he has symptoms you should have gone straight to PCR. The state of the LFT is irrelevant.

Babyg1995 · 21/12/2021 22:17

Definitely positive

Thevengabusiscoming · 21/12/2021 22:19

It’s with it not being a straight line. His symptoms are sneezing and runny nose which I know could be the new variant. He doesn’t have a temp or cough but thought I best check and that’s what came up.

OP posts:
Scbchl · 21/12/2021 22:21

I had one like this a few months ago and it wasn't actually positive when I got my pcr result.

FenceSplinters · 21/12/2021 22:22

It could be a positive, but it could just be flooded. Are you booking a PCR to check?

cansu · 21/12/2021 22:22

Have you left that a long time? I noticed with some LFTs that if I look at it much later it looks different.

Bluntness100 · 21/12/2021 22:23

When was that taken op? If within fifteen to thirty mins it’s positive, after thirty it can’t be read and is for the bin,

Bluntness100 · 21/12/2021 22:24

@cansu

Yes, it looks like it’s been left to me.
Thevengabusiscoming · 21/12/2021 22:26

Yeah I have booked a pcr. I was meant to be at work tomorrow and I can’t risk colleagues or family catching it that’s why I done the lateral flow

No that photo was 15 minutes after taking the test. It was the sars test and when I put the four drops in it went like that straight away

Theballoonsinthesky · 21/12/2021 22:29

I think its positive. He has symptoms as well so I'd say it is. I'm currently positive and my symptoms are exactly like a cold, scratchy throat with a bit of coughing and mostly sneezing, also blocked nose. Nothing like the 3 symptoms that the government are still trotting out after 18 months. Makes you wonder why they haven't updated it?

Gooseberrypies · 21/12/2021 22:29

@cardibach

If he has symptoms you should have gone straight to PCR. The state of the LFT is irrelevant.
If you did a PCR on a child every time they had one of the ever changing ‘symptoms’ - including the new ones which aren’t even officially listed as symptoms for a PCR so require you to lie to get a test - nobody with children would ever be able to go to work, or even have time to breathe for that matter Grin. LFTs are not any less accurate than a PCR when you have symptoms as long as you test at the onset (see Leber et al. 2021 in EClinicalMedicine here: www.thelancet.com/pdfs/journals/eclinm/PIIS2589-5370(21)00291-1.pdf ).
Theballoonsinthesky · 21/12/2021 22:30

Just saw your update. I've been taking daily LFTs to see if they are still positive and my T line showed instantly every time, didn’t take 15 to 30 mins at all

FictionalCharacter · 21/12/2021 22:32

Definitely positive, just smeary. You wouldn’t get a very red line at the T position if it was negative.

drawthelatch · 21/12/2021 22:34

I’d call it positive too.

Any chance you can go to a drive-through or walk-through test centre instead of waiting for the postal PCR? Might save some time in waiting around at least.

Thevengabusiscoming · 21/12/2021 22:39

Yeah it came up like that straight away but I took the photo after 15 min as it hadn’t changed. Waited 30 min and it was still the same. He had Covid nearly 7 month ago so don’t know if he could still have a positive
