How poorly was your child?

Hi
Anxious mum here, 11 year old daughter has a temp of 38.3 tonight and I'm worrying. LF is negative but she's had classmates with it so could be.
Can anyone offer any advice if it is covid please?

My DC's were 4 and 7 the first time last November so not as old as yours but they wasn't very poorly, main symptom was a fever but they were okay. We tested positive again a few weeks ago and they wasn't ill at all really, no fever, just a lot of sneezing and a runny nose.

Spacecadetagain · 19/12/2021 22:43

Dd (11) has it at the moment .confirmed by PCR yesterday . She tested positive on Tuesday on LFT . Snotty nose for two days and then fine so she’s utterly fed up as she’s so bored

ASimpleLobsterHat · 19/12/2021 22:44

DS12 tested positive this month - started with a temp (but only for a day) and nausea. He was quite ill for 2 days (stayed in bed most of the day, very little appetite) but then got better reasonably quickly. Our whole household got it in the end - our experience was that lateral flow tests took a day or two after symptoms to show a positive, so she may well have it. Good luck and I hope she feels better soon.

littlerose12345 · 19/12/2021 22:47

DS age 6 had it. Temperature, cold and a cough for about 2 days.

Choccymumma · 19/12/2021 22:47

Thanks all. I knew I could rely on you for advice. She said she feels a bit sick but otherwise fine.
Let's hope it's not too bad.

Ds13 had it at the end of sept. He had headaches every evening and a pretty consistent cough, that worsened in the evening (with the headache), however didn’t bother him in the night. He had a very snotty nose.

QueenofLouisiana · 19/12/2021 22:48

DS (16) had awful headaches and a sore throat. He was really tired. He could do most lessons online, as he was offered live video lessons.
The tiredness lasted for 4 weeks to a worrying degree and then improved. However, he is now 12 weeks post-covid (I had to count so he could have his 2nd jab) and still far more tired than I would expect.
No temp of cough at all.

mummytooneprincess · 19/12/2021 22:51

My five year old has it. She was extremely tired initially but no other symptoms. Try not to worry

Sparkle275 · 19/12/2021 22:51

My DD is also 11 and had covid at the beginning of the month. She started with a tempreature, headache, feeling sick and very tired. After 2 days with those symptoms she perked up and felt fine for the rest of her isolation. My other 2 children who are 6 & 7 also caught it and were fine, apart from a cough they were still full of energy. Fingers crossed your DD doesn't have covid and hope she feels better soon.

HalfPastThree · 19/12/2021 22:56

DD (10) had it recently (probably Delta, not omicron) and I'd describe it as a normal childhood influenza-like illness. On and off temperature, fatigue for a week, loss of appetite. To be honest I was quite surprised by how hard it hit her as she's normally super-healthy and her friends who had it were hardly affected.

Tatum1234 · 19/12/2021 22:59

16yo, one jab - virtually no symptoms, slightest cough for a couple of days.
13yo - dreadful cough and sore throat, blocked nose, fever, awful fatigue. Off school two extra days after his isolation.
9yo - croaky voice for a day
6yo - slightly tired for 3 days

My 13yo was more poorly than me. His cough kept me awake for about 5 nights.

IsThisAkissingBook · 19/12/2021 23:02

My 11yr old daughter was extremely unwell to the point we were told she may die (I had a thread on here). She had no chest problems but it's been hell. It's been 3 months and we are only now coming out the other side. She can't walk at all but with physio hopefully she will learn but if not we don't care honestly. My 9yr old had two days of sore eyes and that was it.

ShowOfHands · 19/12/2021 23:07

Both DC were okay at first but went downhill on day 5. DD presented as though she had a very bad virus, combination of a horrible head cold, vomiting bug and sky high fever. DS was very unwell indeed and I really worried about him. He developed a secondary infection and needed a bit of medical help.

They came through it but it was a long 2 weeks for each of them. Back to back. So a miserable month!

DrunkenKoala · 19/12/2021 23:08

DS 12 currently has it. Weds evening he tested positive on LTF (no symptoms although he did say afterwards he’d been coughing a bit earlier in the day). Woke up on Thurs with a temp 38 and he felt really fatigued, body felt like a dead weight. Fri his temp had gone but was still tired. Sat and Sun he’s fine, still a bit tired but he’s been coughing quite a bit today. He’s eating and drinking as usual, although he probably drank more water than usual on Thursday and Friday.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 19/12/2021 23:09

Slight runny nose for my 2 year old.

mangodreams · 19/12/2021 23:20

Two dc had it recently, younger one had runny nose for a week and slept a bit more than usual, older one (11) had no symptoms at all and negative LFs throughout (took PCR as sibling had it and tested positive).

Bumpsadaisie · 19/12/2021 23:34

My 12 year old had a cold, tummy and headache and very very very tired for two weeks. 2.5 weeks off school altogether.

10 year old a day off then fine.

ShinyGreenElephant · 19/12/2021 23:37

Dd12 was headachy and tired, thats it
Dd2 no symptoms

Hope shes okay!

Choccymumma · 19/12/2021 23:42

Thanks all, I'm really anxious about it.

My daughter 9 two weeks ago was grey in colour, rash round her mouth, temp and the runs. Then lose of taste. Unwell for about 5 days.
Son 11, lose of taste, cough, slight temp. Slightly milder symptoms than his sister. Both fine now and back to school tomorrow

Emerald5hamrock · 19/12/2021 23:48

My 12 y.o has a violent cough and her throat is raw.

AnotherMansCause · 19/12/2021 23:49

DD 9 has had absolutely no symptoms. She's on day 6 tomorrow I think, we're on day 7. We only tested her because we had positive LFTs, her was negative but the PCRs all came back positive. She's full of beans, exactly as normal. Typical. Hmm DH & I have only just started to start feeling a bit better.

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 20/12/2021 00:10

13yo DS had a cough and headache. He was also very shaky and lightheaded and lost his appetite (unheard of!) No fever though. I would say the severity of his symptoms declined sharply after the first four days.

Hope your daughter feels better soonThanks

Sarahschild · 20/12/2021 00:33

My 10 year old had a high temp for 36 hours, headache then came good. No runny nose or sore throat. Eating and drinking fine.

Generalpost · 20/12/2021 00:58

Dd who's 11 has had it twice. 1st time bad stomach/loose stools. And generally unwell . 2nd Just a head ache and slight sore /dry throat.

Ds who's 5 was more like a kiddie 24hr bug. Vomiting and sleeping. He was himself the next day.
