Hi
Anxious mum here, 11 year old daughter has a temp of 38.3 tonight and I'm worrying. LF is negative but she's had classmates with it so could be.
Can anyone offer any advice if it is covid please?

Update on my original post, dd11 tested positive today. Ok in herself but has a temp which comes down with calpol and a croaky voice.

She’ll be fine @Choccymumma - no point worrying unless she has worrying symptoms, which she doesn’t. It’s mild in 99.999% of kids. My then 9 month old & then 3 year old had it last December. Couple days minor illness, swiftly recovered.

I’ve had covid twice as an adult. Once vaccinated & once unvaccinated. It was fine both times & I’m considered borderline vulnerable due to asthma that I struggle with. I’m not a worrier about it at all though. People get sick, I’ll quite happily take my chances with covid cos statistically I almost certainly will be OK, as will my children. I’m vaccinated, boosted, I wear a mask & I test when I need too. I’ll worry if I ever actually need too. Until then, on we go.

My 8yo Ds had a mild sore throat. No other symptoms

Karma1981 · 21/12/2021 11:28

My 12 year old had it back in September, she had a little cough and a bit of a cold.
She was fine, and no one else had it in the house.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/12/2021 12:52

DS 8yo had it, I wouldn't have known if I didn't have it myself so tested him as well. He did develop a temperature for a day or so but that's it.

So what happens now?
Presumably she is building up some antibodies, but with omicron does that mean she can catch it again? Also, I understand that once you've tested positive you cant do LF or PCRs for 3 months?

Also,
Sorry so many questions! Smile
Is there a timescale of infection to symptoms? So she started with symptoms on Sunday evening, how long before that was it likely that she was exposed? It has to be school as we were staying home to protect Christmas...pah!

Our 9yr old son had it in September. Tested on the Friday pcr negative tested on the Sunday at home and positive.
It was like he was coming down with a minor cold, he has asthma so was absolutely crapping it but he was fine. Also have 18yr old, 14 and 13 year old who all tested negative and fine but same symptoms as 9yr old. I was 8month pregnant at the time and negative no symptoms and husband negative no symptoms.
Anyone coughs or sneezes or blows nose in this house I'm terrified. Older kids all been vaccinated in November and I had both mine whilst pregnant. Hopefully it will be minor for you like it seems to be for a lot of other children.

My 2 year old tested positive on a lateral flow in the evening just gone.

He had negative PCR test through from the previous day yesterday morning. We've had covid in the house now for almost 10 days though so was expecting it.

He spiked a temp of 38.1 briefly for about two hours. I have him calpol & it went and doesn't seem to have come back from feeling him over night. He's got a cough which is unpleasant and is clearly painful for him.

He's a bit snotty etc.

He's too little to tell me if anything else is feeling unwell.

Thanks OP because I'm feeling anxious too. I really thought he'd be asymptotic and test positive when I did and now I'm worrying he's going to be poorly.

Idontlikeworms · 22/12/2021 03:40

Ds10 was tired out, lost taste a bit and hD headache. He is sleeping 12+ hours a night now so I'm pleased it's the holidays.

Yes apparently you would still test positive for up to 90 days after a positive test. Only what I've been told.

And yes it was school for our 9yr old. We got an email on the Tuesday saying someone has covid in the class then Friday negative pcr Sunday positive lateral flow and cold symptoms. The second week they went back in September some of the mums did a party for one of the children and the kids that didn't get invited still came away with a covid goodie bag! Whole class went down at various intervals over the month due to that party.
