What would you do?

Aware I may get a flaming here but was out at lunch with a group of friends on Tuesday. All took lateral flows that mornings and all negative.

One friend was then contacted on Wednesday to say her son was a close contacted and needed a PCR test. They all tested as a precaution and she got a positive result on Thursday.

The rest of us have panicked, although have not been told officially we are a close contact, and have gone to get a PCR but it’s now been 36 hours since and still no result.

My dilemma is that as we are in Scotland the whole household has to isolate which now means kids missing out on so much this weekend.

I thought taking a PCR test was the sensible thing to do but wish I had taken lateral flow tests daily.

Do you think we should still isolate? I have no symptoms at all and just so fed up of the kids continuing to miss out on things.

Go out and enjoy your weekend. We may be in full lockdown soon, enjoy what you can whenever you can.

They are your children. It’s your decision whether you keep them indoors or not. Stop allowing the government to co-parent your children.

You made the decision at the time that there might be a risk you have covid. That risk has not disappeared. How are you going to feel if it comes back positive and you've been out and about?

I agree to some extent but also part of me thinks what if we do all go out and then the result comes back positive? Is not like I don’t know there is a chance I could have caught it.

Not really sure what I’m looking for with this post, am just so fed up of it all.

You took a PCR because you thought there was a risk you had covid.

You just need to wait for the result IMO. You can't decide you don't care now it inconveniences you. Your result might be through in another half day or so hopefully.

I agree although wish I had taken a moment and really thought whether I was at risk. If we aren’t classed as a close contact then the risk must be low?

I’ll do the correct thing and wait for the result, I could just cry though at my kids missing out on life because of all of this.

I’m not sure what you should do, as you say what if the reiki is positive?
It’s so very very hard, all this missing out.
Can you do something else special at home.
I’ve benefited a lot through Covid through having a ‘can do’ rather than a ‘can’t do’ attitude.

This is going to be part of the problem I fear - slow PCR turnaround times. When we could take one and get results in less than 24 hours no one could complain about that. It's a minor inconvenience but long waits for results are going to put people off taking them. I feel for you OP! Is there a chance the kids could carry on without you? It's a horrible situation to be in so hope you get the results soon ( and they're negative!)

your contact is positive 2 days after you meet? no idea
however you have done a pcr so you will have to wait for the results

We are in Scotland so everyone in the household has to isolate until the result is received. Their activities today don’t involve me which makes this even harder.

I could deal with results back in 24 hours but such a long wait is going to put people off testing, which I know isn’t the correct attitude.

I’ve never checked my phone so much in my life!

I just feel I’ve run out of can-do attitude. Of course, I’ll put on a smile for the kids and say it’s all ok and there will be other activities. I guess I’m just having a rant, thank you to everyone who has responded.

Everyone has to isolate? Where does it say that? You have to isolate yes, but having quickly skimmed the Scotland rules I couldn’t see that it said the dcs must as well?

I'm in wales so no idea if your rules. If you're required to test and isolate, and your household are required to isolate, after being a contact (within 48 hours of symptoms starting or a positive test is the usual criteria, so you fall in to that) then I would follow the rules, as frustrating as that is.

If there's no requirement to do so but you've just been extra cautious then I'd continue on as normal until I got a positive result, perhaps taking some extra precautions such as wearing a mask and ensuring social distancing is maintained. If you weren't required to do the test then there shouldn't be any requirement to isolate while you wait for the result? Our council have long recommended getting a PCR in additional circumstances to having the big 3 symptoms, but there's no requirement to isolate until results come back.
