Xmas party cancelled 🥺

I know, I know, I’m being ridiculous.

Xmas party tonight in a really nice restaurant. Just had a text saying they have decided to cancel.

I’m gutted lol. Haven’t been out in a long long time. A few of us were planning on going for drinks afterwards and I was so excited lol.

I also feel bloody awful for the restaurant to lose a big booking the day of when we have had to pre order our food.

Don't feel too bad for the restaurant, they will have taken a deposit so they won't lose out on e ingredients. You could still go out for drinks with your colleagues if you want to?

I went to the cinema last night, going to the theatre on Saturday and our for lunch on Monday. Then three days at the Foodbank.

Can you and your friends still meet for drinks?

I’m sure you’ll find somewhere to eat.

I think it's happening because people don't want a positive PCR before Christmas which means they'll miss out on seeing family. Same reason posters in other threads wanted to take their children out from school early.

If you all have the money you could get the food donated to a local homeless shelter and turn this into something positive? Just an idea I saw on twitter locally from a company in the same boat.

Our works Xmas night was last weekend, I was one of the few who didn’t go - and now nearly alone in the office as they all have covid and are isolating at home until the 25/26th. They’ve all said it wasn’t worth it.

They will have lost out on all the drinks though and the remainder of the payment is their profit so of course I would feel extremely sorry for the restaurant.

I feel your pain. My xmas party was outside and we were all cold. And it was 90 minutes but thank goodness it wasn't cancelled.

I think it's ridiculous,bunch of healthy people all vaccinated and boosted not being able to have a christmas party.

They can have a Christmas party. The organisers are choosing not to. Lots of people are weighing up which social events are most important to them, sounds like most people but the OP have decided this one isn't a priority 🤷

I think it's difficult if it's something you were really looking forward to. Not everyone has plans for Christmas and for some people those meals out, shows etc were the thing that was important to them.
But of course, everyone is different and for a large number of people Christmas Day feels more important and so they don't want to risk it.
Hopefully, at least some of the cancelled events can take place in the new year so there's something to look forward to then.

Anyone can have a Christmas party no one is stopping them but people are realising that it’s not that simple and covid is spreading fast. Doesn’t matter if you don’t care about catching it. Catching it now will affect your Christmas plans as you have to isolate.

It’s really not that difficult to understand.

Oh you don't get it. it's awful for us with these cancellations, cancelling at this short notice yes they'll have got ingredients and also no profit and staff and bills to pay. Please don't dismiss it as not big deal. We are going under

All our works stuff was cancelled when they made the WFH announcement. Not surprising really. I was looking forward to it but I’d rather that be cancelled than the plans that I have with family and friends. If there has to be some reduction in contact then work dos are probably the least painful thing to miss out on for most people.

I felt the same when mine was cancelled earlier this week. I’d had to be choosy with what I attended anyway due to childcare responsibilities, and was gutted that I’d skipped over events earlier in the month in preference of the one that was meant to be tonight!

Disappointing but ultimately manageable. Here’s to a hopefully brighter 2022 Wine

I think people don’t want to risk a positive test or contact as it might impact their Christmas plans.
It’s just us 4 anyway so we are being cautious but not cancelling anything

I just hope lots of places are going to do what we’re planning which is having a Christmas do in January. Hopefully we can turn a usually quiet month for hospitality into a busy one.

The threat of covid may not have gone away but at least people won’t be risking Christmas/travel plans. Plus a lot more people will have had covid by then (particularly in London where it’s going like the clappers).

The other thing people can do to help is buy gift vouchers from restaurants or restaurant online shops. As we’ll now be isolating I just ordered a restaurant box for my parents next week when we should have been seeing them.

I know it’s not the same but it’s still some cash in the door for them.

Eh? They're losing out on the money that would have been spent and they'll have stock they can't use. It's a shit show for the hospitality industry

We didn't even have one planned this year - our divisional meeting yesterday afternoon had a number of acknowledgments that the situation is shit. But given the public health concerns and that we had been ordered back to WFH when we were barely back to 1 day/week in the office on a rota basis for 5 weeks, and I have barely seen colleagues in person for almost 2 years....a party is the least of our concerns.

We want to see each other, hear the news you can't give on a big zoom call, laugh and cry with each other about what has happened in our lives and about work including unexpected deaths of an number of colleagues and serious illnesses as well (most having nothing to do with covid).
