Can I have your experience of getting a Moderna booster after two AZ jabs

Gwenhwyfar · 16/12/2021 21:45

Just wondering about the side effects. I will get the booster no matter what and this is not an anti-vacc question, but I may have a chance to get it before Christmas, but would like an idea of what side effects to expect.
After my first AZ I had aches and pains for one day, but still able to go to work, then had back pain that lingered for a month.
After my second I felt fine the next day, but still can't move my arm properly six months later.
My main worry is not being able to work on the days after the vaccine, which would be my last days at work before a long Christmas break if I move my booster sooner or being too tired to pack and travel to go home.
My original appointment is for a quiet time in January.

Early 30s, healthy, workout 5 days a week and never had covid. 2 AZ felt horrific for a month after the first one, I’m very fit and a runner and it completely destroyed my fitness levels and really impacted my breathing, lots of tests and trips to GP and after 2 months I was back to normal, also had vision problems for a few days. Reluctantly got a 2nd AZ as they refused an alternative was fine but I lost my period for 3 months. Moderna booster yesterday feel like death today like I have a very bad flu and blurred vision again. It’s worth noting that the only time in the last 5 years I have been ill is after these jabs. I will not get a 4th. Also have awful reactions to the 1 flu jab I have had.

@Scrooge89

How do you know what your booster will be?
In my case, because quite a lot of my friends have had theirs at the same place in recent weeks and they all had Moderna.

Ideally I'd prefer Pfizer which I had for my 1st two doses, but prefer to get the extra protection really above all.

JollyHostess · 16/12/2021 23:47

I had my Moderna booster today at 11 and have been feeling pretty grim for the last 2-3 hours. Everything hurts.

WhatMattersMost · 16/12/2021 23:47

AZ1 I felt horrible for about 24 hours. AZ2 barely anything. Moderna want a bad as AZ1, but I still felt quite bad - primarily a palpable heaviness, as if gravity had increased, body aches and fatigue. It's four days on and I feel about 75% recovered.

WhatMattersMost · 16/12/2021 23:49

*wasn't as

tinkerbellvspredator · 16/12/2021 23:53

Had it yesterday. Sore arm. A bit tired, 'off', mild headache.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 16/12/2021 23:55

Had Moderna on Sunday after 2xAZ. Bit of a headache Sunday night (took a couple of paracetamol).

Monday morning we felt pretty ghastly. Husband had his a couple of minutes after me, woke up on Monday with a temperature of 37.9°C. Luckily we had the day off! Went to bed at 8:30pm & slept right through to 6:30am on Tuesday.

Arm has a bit of a lump but isn’t too bad. I had a huge swelling after the first AZ which only stopped hurting a few days before my 2nd jab!

I always go down like a sack of poop after any vaccine, so wasn’t that surprised. But it’s a good poorly, knowing your immune system is in fine, fighting fettle. Interesting to see the effects of an mRNA vaccine having read lots about the potential in publications like the New Scientist & Nature over the last few years. 24hrs (ish) of feeling rubbish but worth it to help protect my family.

Nothing much with the 2 AZ jabs- a bit of a fatigue. Moderna booster had me in bed with a full blown fever for 2 days, body aches, headaches and just feeling generally awful.

Fine after the 2 days though so fairly short lived and very worth it if it prevents me catching coronavirus. But would probably avoid any plans/work for a few days after the booster if possible- there’s no way I could have functioned at work.

Gormless · 17/12/2021 00:17

Had 2 AZ: no side effects.
Moderna booster: extremely painful arm for 24 hours; horrible fever and chills also first 24 hours; generally a bit zonked out now three days later but massively better. When I started to feel better from the fever and chills I felt better all of a sudden.

CharSiu · 17/12/2021 02:04

DH and I had the exact combo.
First and second AZ DH felt 100%
My first AZ I felt a bit unwell for three days, second AZ felt unwell for a day.

Moderna booster didn’t feel unwell but we both felt tired for a day.

Toffeewhirl · 17/12/2021 02:22

I had 2 x AZ. Felt rough after the second. Just had a sore arm after the Moderna booster, but no other side effects.

DS had the Moderna at the same time as me and has been in bed for two days with a headache and generally feeling unwell. He had Pfizer before - no idea if this makes any difference..

ThettaReddast · 17/12/2021 04:46

I was ill (flu like) after each of my AZ shots, just a sore arm after my Moderna booster

I had this combination with Moderna 2 weeks ago, and had absolutely no side effects, other than my arm felt sore when I washed it in the shower. But it didn’t ache otherwise.

DH same combination, was in bed for 24hrs after first AZ, his arm quite sore after booster but no other symptoms.

Both kids had 3 Pfizer, and both had very sore arms this time.

Shorebreak · 17/12/2021 08:20

1st AZ: slightly sore arm for a day, no other side effects.
2nd AZ: no side effects.
Booster Moderna: slightly sore arm for about 24 hours, no other side effects.
Pain free jabs in each case.
60-70 age group.

Laila747 · 17/12/2021 08:25

I had the AZ then the Moderna booster last Sunday and I felt a bit tired and had a sore arm on Monday eve/Tues morning but that’s all.

Gwenhwyfar · 17/12/2021 16:49

@Shorebreak

1st AZ: slightly sore arm for a day, no other side effects. 2nd AZ: no side effects. Booster Moderna: slightly sore arm for about 24 hours, no other side effects. Pain free jabs in each case. 60-70 age group.
I think the side effects are weaker in older people, if you don't mind me saying that.

After the 2 AZ, I had nothing except a sore arm and slight fatigue. Just had moderna booster and just had a sore arm, slight fatigue and a bit of a headache - nothing paracetamol couldn’t sort.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 17/12/2021 16:53

I've had this combo. I felt a bit rough after AZ1, nothing but a sore arm after AZ2. Not even that with Moderna boost, it's been fine. And I feel so relieved and grateful to get it, so I think there's an element of happiness hormone going on too which helps! I'm early 40s.

Elodie9 · 17/12/2021 16:59

OH had 2 x AZ then Moderna booster. Lots of unpleasant things from AZ jabs , including referral to a Rheumatologist due to severe symptons afterwards. Thankfully he has been fine with the Moderna and he is much better now.

RumHoney · 17/12/2021 17:02

I had this combination and was fine after all 3.

kerkyra · 17/12/2021 18:47

First two AZ which were ok,the first I was a bit off the next day.
Had the moderna on Wednesday and still feeling rough, hot and sweaty, dizzy with a headache when I walk. Its been 48hrs now so hoping I am better tomorrow.

Saracen · 18/12/2021 12:17

I felt nothing whatsoever from the two AZ jabs. Had the Moderna booster a few days ago. Day one, slightly sore arm. Day two, still sore arm and very very mild flu symptoms: slightly achey all over, slightly shivery. Hardly noticeable though. Day three is fine.

My husband had this combo with zero side effects (in his fifties).
CoodleMoodle · 18/12/2021 12:28

I had this combo. Felt awful after the first (chills, headache, exhausted, sore arm) for 24hrs and then fine, apart from the arm which took a few days and bruised quite impressively. Second one I only had a sore arm (no bruise) and was a bit tired.

After my Moderna booster I had a very sore arm for about 2 days but that was it.
