Am I seeing things?

DD9 has come home from school with a sore throat and headache. There is at least one confirmed case in her class.
She did a negative LFT this morning but I’ve just done another and swear I can see a faint hint of a line, level with the top of the T. Her dad can’t see it…

Test again tomorrow morning. Both my DC tested positive on LFTs but one day they were negative, next positive then back to negative within 3 days. The time frame for testing positive is very short on LFT.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/12/2021 19:23

Unbelievably faint. Stronger on the b and w

And tbh not necessarily an actual line.

We had PCRs come back quickly last week (negative) so hopefully wouldn’t be too much of a hassle

feellikeanalien · 16/12/2021 19:24

DD has been off all week with a sore throat, headache, slight temperature and feeling sick. Negative lateral flow and PCR also negative. There are so many bugs around at the moment.

DDs school also had a number of covid cases and I was convinced she had it because the symptoms were the same as those described in a newspaper article as being typical Omicron symptoms.

I can't see any line in your DDs test but would arrange a PCR just to be sure.

Lokdok · 16/12/2021 19:35

No line on this. If you have symptoms get a more sensitive PCR, no point wasting more LFTs as you'll get similar strength results on the same day of course.

Paddingtonthebear · 16/12/2021 19:38

Can’t see a line

StuckInARug · 16/12/2021 19:43

I’ve had that kind of line for two weeks now on every LFT I take, have had two negative PCRs and definitely no covid…

PestoSugarPlumFairy · 16/12/2021 19:45

There is literally NO line.

What is it with millions of these threads asking if posters can see an invisible line? Confused

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/12/2021 23:23

I’m not sure that lines this faint count as lines tbh

I’d definitely want to double check this

To the pp saying “what’s all this with invisible lines” - Some people (usually women) can tell small colour differences more easily than others.

LatinforTelly · 17/12/2021 00:43

Is it an orient gene test? We had one come back like this. My daughter insists it's a line. It's more slightly darker on the whole area "north" of the T. I'd not count it and test again tomorrow.

greenlynx · 17/12/2021 00:51

I can’t see a line

urbanbuddha · 17/12/2021 02:29

I can see the very faintest of lines on both photos but it's so faint I think it's more likely to be a faulty test strip than any indication of covid. Test again in the morning.

FictionalCharacter · 17/12/2021 05:06

Negative

It’s like people want there to be a line 😂
Wilkolampshade · 17/12/2021 06:37

Yep, liney line line.

BlackInk · 17/12/2021 08:33

Thanks everyone for having a look and commenting – the mix of opinions doesn't make things any easier for me though Wink.

It's not straight forward. She's not officially a close contact and has none of the 3 main symptoms so doesn't officially meet the criteria for PCR. But she's unwell still this morning with sore throat, headache and not hungry so definitely staying off school (last day of term).

This morning's LFT looks negative I think, which makes my decision even harder.

Am I seeing things?

Yes, I'd say your more recent one l looked negative too. Confused
Going on my recent experience I'd say test again in 12 hrs and do a PCR.

BlackInk · 17/12/2021 09:39

I've booked her in for a PCR later today.

We've been doing daily LFTs for the past week on request of school due to high number of cases, so surely if she had it one of them would have shown a clear positive? I'll be surprised if the PCR is positive!

OP posts:
Divebar2021 · 17/12/2021 10:13

I would have booked the PCR off the back of the sore throat alone - too many LFTs are showing negative with a positive PCR. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Yes it's an Orient Gene one. That's all we've got. All the tests we've done with them have a really pink background, which takes ages to clear (much longer then 15 mins) so you can't see within the time limit whether there's a test line or not. Also have trouble squeezing any drops out of the tube onto the test. A couple of times have squeezed so hard that the lid's popped off spilling the fluid everywhere.

urbanbuddha · 18/12/2021 03:30

That last test is a negative.

We've now had all our pcr tests back. The queried LFT was a negative pcr, but we've had 2 very strong positives on these tests (with a different person). The test line developed in 1 to 2 minutes and was unambiguous. So you definitely can tell with them when they're strong positives. Hope your daughter avoids it.

maa32 · 18/12/2021 18:30

Any update on PCR op

frenchfancy81 · 18/12/2021 18:34

There's a very feint line.

BlackInk · 18/12/2021 23:17

PCR was negative, pfew!
Guess I was seeing things… when my DS had Covid the LFTs picked it up 2 days before he got symptoms - very obvious test line. I should learn not to look too hard!
Thanks Folks 😊
