Been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID

I have been in contact with a family member who has tested positive for COVID.

I have a LFT test here at home. Should I take this test even though I am showing no symptoms? Or would I get a negative result?

In other words, should I wait until I am showing symptoms in order to get a more accurate result?

Have already ordered PCR tests for myself and DD from gov.uk website.

Just wondering if I should take the LFT first?

@VanCleefArpels all good, I would be somewhat short with someone if I had Omicron and feeling shitty lol. It's forgotten. Feel better soon, sending love x

Good luck with getting LFTs. No chemist anywhere near me has any, and my DD tested positive on Monday. I have tested negative today and have no LFTs left.

FromTheAshes · 15/12/2021 21:17

I was also a close contact on Sunday. I do daily lateral flow anyway but was planning on doing a pcr on Friday (day 5 following contact) and Monday or Tuesday (day 8 or 9) to be on the safe side for Christmas. It's a bit of a moot point now as my daughter's been in close contact with a number of positive cases in her class the last two days and is now poorly today so we've both taken pcrs and will both be doing daily lfts as is now required. Good luck with your results op, I hope you stay negative.

@HuntingoftheSnark the online booking fir LFT had some earlier today - worth keeping checking! Do schools have packs (my kids grown up so don’t know the situation with schools).

HuntingoftheSnark · 15/12/2021 21:21

@VanCleefArpels I've been checking all day but thank you - will keep doing so! My DD is 24 (still lives with me), has zero symptoms aside from a very mild cold over the weekend and was routinely tested at her place of work, otherwise we would have had no idea at all.

rocky1914 · 15/12/2021 21:54

Ok so I've done the test. 30 min timer on now. I'm so nervous! Confused

@HuntingoftheSnark well when I opened the packet it appeared to have 7 LFT's in it so that's just pure luck on my part! Just done my test now and awaiting the result. Any chance you can order online or are they all out of LFT's online too? I hope you find some somewhere soon. Good luck x

I'm sorry to hear about your DD feeling under the weather. I really hope your PCR's and LFT's continue to come back negative x

I think you can read it after 15 minutes and before 30. So that’s likely negative.

BiscuitLover3679 · 15/12/2021 22:16

You might never get symptoms. Try the LF.

That looks like an older throat and nose, 30 min test to me.
2toastornot2toast · 15/12/2021 22:16

My dd has 13 vivid cases in class all been in touch with each other in last week. Ds has 6 in his class and I have 3 in my class so we all have lots of close contacts. Lft every day for 10 days for us all. Dont worry to much about 1 contact. I've worked throughout with kids positive same day as I had them in class - no masks etc and kids no vaccine as primary and I've never had it- I lft 2x a week for work so know this.

Really? Well, this is what it says in the instruction manual. It does say that a positive result can show after 20 mins but to wait for the full 30 mins for an accurate result.

@InTheLabyrinth yes, it's definitely one of those tests.

You’re right, the ID marker is in a different place on the newer ones.

MrsFezziwig · 15/12/2021 22:23

Anyway, the 30 minutes is just about up while we’re chatting! Smile

Booklover3 · 15/12/2021 22:24

Go by the instructions as there are different types

rocky1914 · 15/12/2021 22:25

Ok so here's my result. What do you all think? Does this look like a negative test result to you? I hope so Sad

Brilliant! Thank you so much. Doesn't mean that I'm out of the woods yet though. Going to take an LFT tomorrow at some point again, both myself and my DD. Then we are both going to take the PCR tests once they arrive through the post.
