During the big vaccination push at the start of the year we had a lovely series of threads running to keep up moral and celebrate our wonderful NHS as we watched the numbers of vaccinated people go up and up. It feels like we need that positivity again right now!

I was pleased to see on Twitter that our pal Hugo is back with his daily figure updates, so what better time to start a new thread!

This is not a place to discuss the vaccines themselves or to share negative stories. Let’s keep it positive!

@PuzzledObserver

There’s also been an uptick in first doses in the last few days, so maybe some reluctant people have been persuaded.
Or like my 12yo ds people who have been trying to get a first jab appointment for ages have finally got one. The team who came to his school didn’t finish twice and we couldn’t book anything in our entire county till yesterday!
CaveMum · 21/12/2021 14:25

851,000 arms full of booster yesterday. The figure will go up as Wales is yet to report.

It's very good, but not quite good enough to get everyone eligible vaccinated by 31 December. Would now need considerably more than 1 million a day - 1½ to 2 million. Only 8 days left, wuld have been better perhaps to promise mid January.

Whatever, the campaign is going very well, no shortage of people coming forward, thank goodness.

CaveMum · 23/12/2021 13:01

There was no way we’d get 100% done by end of Dec - there will never be 100% uptake of any vaccine. As per Hugo’s figures we’re on track to have 75-80% done though which is pretty amazing.

Today’s numbers

At some point, as well as not everyone taking up the booster, you will reach the 3 month barrier for those who had their second dose more recently. I predict we won't get much beyond 75% (or even less).

Has anyone tracked how many % had received their second dose by end of Sept?

BigWoollyJumpers · 24/12/2021 14:42

Answered my own question - of course it is there - so 45m received their second by end of Sept. So only 13m to go, and that's if everyone takes up the booster.

CaveMum · 24/12/2021 15:25

Number’s are out, understandably down on records of recent days.

The stats on % coverage are great though.

Yesterday's figures.

Hugo Gye @HugoGye
325,087 booster vaccinations in Flag of United Kingdom yesterday

Flag of England 258,399
Flag of Scotland 24,851
Flag of Wales 34,060
NI 7,777
6:09 PM · Dec 29, 2021

Gladioli23 · 30/12/2021 08:00

So if 45M had had a second by the end of September, and let's say we get 90% uptake, you'd by looking at needing 40M jabs ish to have given one to everyone eligible and who wants one.

We're at 33,091k so some way off that but considering we were on 23 million when it started that's not a bad place to be. There's also been half a million more second doses and nearly that many more firsts - which I recognise aren't technically part of the target but still use up vaccination resource in the same way.

BigWoollyJumpers · 30/12/2021 09:36

Took DD's for boosters yesterday. Centre was doing a roaring trade. Locally sites were open over Xmas but not many takers. I suspect many, like us, will be done in these days between Xmas and New Years. DD's didn't want to feel rubbish for Xmas day.

CaveMum · 30/12/2021 16:23

Thanks for updating @Imfedupwithallofthis! Thread slipped down the list over Christmas!

Hope everyone is keeping well, we had a change of post-Christmas plans after a guest at BIL’s tested positive on Boxing Day so we decided not to risk going to their house on 28/29 just in case.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-59834667

"The Department of Health and Social Care said it had met the goal set by the prime minister on 12 December to ensure all eligible adults in England had been offered a Covid booster by 31 December. The target was brought forward by a month in response to the emergence of the Omicron variant."

In some ways it is true, everybody has been offered a booster, because everybody over 18 has been told that they can get a booster. They were told this on 12 December.

But it is a far cry from 'everybody who wants a booster has had the opportunity to have a booster by 31 December'.

The numbers are rising every day, which is the main thing.

Imfedupwithallofthis · 31/12/2021 06:51

Although it now includes children over 12, as opposed to adults, blocky has now reached 90% for first doses. Also 82.4% second doses, 58.3% booster or third doses.

We had quite a few takers for 1st/2nd and boosters today (walk ins) at the centre I work in. Keeps me out of mischief anyway.

Happy New Year everyone!

No update today but hopefully the numbers will be in tomorrow’s figures.
