Panto - would you go?

Just that. Got expensive panto tickets for Saturday. Booked months ago. Kids are 5 and 6 and would love it. They haven’t been before.

But. Aware of risk - worried about possible omnicron and isolating over Xmas. Can’t get booster for another week but have all had Covid in the last 8 weeks. No idea if this helps or not.

No idea yet if it is possible to move the panto tickets until after Xmas - I deliberately booked then for just before Xmas as I thought they atmosphere would be great. However clearly a panto is lots of people packed into a badly ventilated space. Even in masks….

What would you do?

Oh no I wouldn't..

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 13/12/2021 20:17

I would go - in fact I plan to go on 2nd January but worried it will have been cancelled by the government by then like last year. Masks, all facing the same way, not mingling and mixing around, covid 8 weeks ago and double jabbed - I think it is lower risk now than it will be in a few weeks time with all the doublings of omicron.

pinkcattydude · 13/12/2021 20:26

We went the other week and everyone wore a mask etc. However I got pinged on Saturday and my first thoughts was not the panto! Turns out I was exposed when I got my booster jab. My point being go, but take precautions masks and hand cleaning etc you may catch it you may not we can’t put our lives on hold completely.

pinkcattydude · 13/12/2021 20:27

@Santahatesbraisedcabbage oh yes you would…

EcoCustard · 13/12/2021 20:30

We are booked for next week and plan on going. First time for the kids as they missed out last year. More concerned about venues, businesses & hospitality being closed than catching Covid now.

Swirlywoo · 13/12/2021 20:34

I am going to go next week, unless I am told not to. We'll need to wear a mask anyway, and every one will be forward facing.

Scottishgirl85 · 13/12/2021 20:34

I would go (in fact we went to panto last weekend and it was wonderful). I'm trying to enjoy each day/activity at the mo and not thinking about risk of Xmas isolation. If it happens, it happens. We'll have enjoyed the build-up activities and traditions that we do every year.

Porfre · 13/12/2021 20:35

I've booked for after Christmas.
I think we need some cheer right now

We went Saturday. We enjoyed it.
Wish they could have enforced masks a bit better though.

LocalHobo · 13/12/2021 20:44

I'm off to see Back to The Future at the weekend. I wish I could shake off the sense of impending doom as, presuming it will go ahead, the rest of my family, particularly my DD who has a birthday, will be so upset if I cancel.

Stopsnowing · 13/12/2021 20:45

Go. I was planning to cancel everything in run up to Xmas but honestly the run up is part of Xmas.

wouldukissafrog · 13/12/2021 20:55

Also debating what to do as due to go on Saturday, pretty expensive tickets. Taking DD4 and DM. Mum has already said she doesn't feel comfortable going so not sur went to do now, this is a bug theatre in a big city so it's going to be very busy in and around the theatre, bloody COVID

wouldukissafrog · 13/12/2021 20:55

Big not bug

avidteadrinker · 13/12/2021 21:01

No I wouldn’t, unless you don’t mind risking Xmas
COVID is rife at the moment, work Xmas party on Friday and now half the company is down with it

vera99 · 13/12/2021 21:04

I would keep looking behind me..... also a big fan of First Defence as an invisible mask...

I would still go, and I intend to go next week to our theatre. They’ve installed a new air ventilation system, so fresh air is pumped in constantly, will be in a mask and I’m triple jabbed. Partner should be triple jabbed by then, but not more than a fortnight.

FenceSplinters · 13/12/2021 21:07

As you’ve had it so recently, I would go.

Itmustbeaproblemwithyourdoodad · 13/12/2021 21:10

I would and am planning to go to a local panto this weekend. Twice actually! Once with friends, once with the kids. Can’t wait. Hope it doesnt get cancelled (it’s am dram and just heard one of the cast has come down with covid!)

isadoradancing123 · 13/12/2021 21:15

I would go

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 13/12/2021 21:21

Agree with pp's. Since you've had Covid relatively recently, go and have fun with your children.

Sally872 · 13/12/2021 21:25

I wouldn't, I am not terrified of covid as none of us are especially vulnerable. But I am prioritising Christmas day, risk of catching it and not having Christmas Dinner with my parents and sibling and their family are not worth the risk to me. I don't know why as we could have a nice roast any other weekend but it's special to me.

If it was just this household us for Christmas day then I would go as isolating wouldn't be such an issue.

Booklover3 · 13/12/2021 23:17

We went last week before everything kicked off. Our tickets had already been transferred from last year. I would probably still go yes
