Are people catching Omicron who recently had delta? Interested to know and can't find out anything online as I guess it's all so new.....

I've had delta and that was bad enough
I really don't want this new one , even if it's ' mild ' !
I've a booster soon

Silverswirl · 13/12/2021 10:06

Had delta recently. Was a bad cold. Felt crap for a few days.
Double jabbed recently too (after covid) but not having booster.
Socialising as much as possible and in very busy places so I guess I will be using myself for this experiment

walkingonsand · 18/12/2021 14:22

I wonder if anyone has experience of this yet?

I only know one person with Omicron and it's her first time having Covid that she's aware of.

time4anothername · 18/12/2021 14:28

In South Africa there was reinfection and the WHO wrote this in the latest bulletin "Preliminary evidence suggests there may be an increased risk of reinfection with Omicron (ie, people who have previously had COVID-19 could become reinfected more easily with Omicron), as compared to other variants of concern, but information is limited. More information on this will become available in the coming days and weeks. "

I'm curious too. I caught Delta almost 3 months ago and am just (finally!) recovering from long Covid. I had my booster nearly 2 months ago but I'm wary re catching omicron as I don't know if my existing antibodies are enough to protect me or not. Seems to be a little too soon for much data on it.

Weihnachtsmarkt · 18/12/2021 14:32

Absolutely - look at the data from South Africa.

The jury is still out as to whether you could actually get both at the same time.

Yellow85 · 18/12/2021 14:40

I know of 1 person who has had both. Unvaccinated if that make any difference. 4 months between infections.

Timeisavirtue · 18/12/2021 14:53

I’ve not heard of anyone who’s had omicron yet....

Delatron · 18/12/2021 14:57

I can give you my party last week story. Suspected omicron outbreak.

So party was Friday. By Monday 60-70% of the party has tested positive. Main symptoms scratchy throat and muscles aches. Timeline, hit rate and symptoms (plus location) suggest omicron.

All double or triple vaccinated.

The two people who had had Delta recently (within one month) did not test positive. Spouses did. Many children of the parents have gone on to test positive apart from those with recent Covid.

Some who tested positive did have Covid in first wave so that appears not to be protective.

I’ve read on here people having delta in Aug/Sept have gone on to be infected again.

So my conclusion is that very recent infection (one month or so) could be protective. I guess antibodies are super high for a month? Booster seems to have reduced severity but does not prevent you catching it.

All anecdotal of course.

Delatron · 18/12/2021 14:58

Unconfirmed that it’s Omicron. But I don’t think they are testing all samples. It seems very likely to me.

Littlemissweepy · 18/12/2021 15:02

A friend of mine has omicron and has had Covid before, but it was ages ago in March 2020 so was the original wuhan strain.

Wilkolampshade · 18/12/2021 15:02

@Timeisavirtue 80% of cases in London now. twitter.com/theosanderson/status/1471904476994977797?s=20
it's my first time with covid, that I know of. But with cases in London so high there must surely be some overlap?

Silverswirl · 18/12/2021 15:05

How would your friend know? No tests were being done in March 2020?
Covidclaire · 18/12/2021 15:10

How/when are people being told they have Omicron? I was assuming that’s what I have, but not mentioned as suspected when I got the results email and text.

Blinkinname · 18/12/2021 15:11

I caught Covid 20th November. No idea what sort? Could have been omnicron? Was just before news broke about it?

Covidclaire · 18/12/2021 15:15

Unlikely then I think.
IpanemaPeaHen · 18/12/2021 15:16

Following this. One dc had delta during October half term now we have covid in household again with a different dc testing positive.

Delatron · 18/12/2021 15:34

Only 1 in 5 I think samples are being tested. So most cases won’t be told. Less now as it becomes the dominant strain.

FilterFrog · 18/12/2021 15:42

My friend tested positive on a PCR - and was then sent another PCR to test for omicron. That was a week ago (and it wasn’t omicron)

Timeisavirtue · 18/12/2021 17:41

Sorry I meant personally of the 49 people I know that have had covid in the last 3 weeks non of them have been omicron.... at least that they know of....

ParkheadParadise · 18/12/2021 17:46

Hope not
I had covid in October ended up with a blood clot and still dealing with breathlessness now.
When I was referred to the hospital by my GP I was taken to the Covid ward. That was 21 days after testing positive.

Suspiciousmind20 · 18/12/2021 17:47

Following as we have been wondering this too. We had presumably delta in late October.

Suspiciousmind20 · 18/12/2021 17:47

ParkheadParadise

Oh no. Hope you make a good recovery. Flowers

Tigerwhocameforsupper · 18/12/2021 17:50

A colleague had covid in July and has just tested positive again. Not sure of variants though.
