DS age 15 missed the covid vaccine at school in October as he had covid at the time. We were originally told he could have his jab 4 weeks after the positive PCR test so made an appointment- then the week before he was due to be jabbed the guidance changed that there should be 12 weeks between PCR & jab. Is this still the guidance? As I'm not clear that immunity from covid works against omicron, feel like he needs the jab ASAP. Any insight appreciated.

I’m in exactly the same situation with dd only we got turned away at the vaccination centre 🤦🏽‍♀️ Very frustrating. It’s still the same guidance as far as I know.

It’s due to the increased risk of myocarditis especially in boys

In my area we are going back round the high schools after Xmas to do the seconds, and presumably any firsts too.

He’ll have to wait. 12 weeks is the guidance for teens.

He’s recently had covid so hopefully that will have given him some protection.

I thought it was 28 days post covid? My dd had it at the beginning of October and I am attempting to get her to have it next week (suspected ASD absolutely terrifying fear of anything medical so not expecting to get her there!) should I wait 12 weeks then? Would hate if I got her there and then she was turned away.

The guidance changed in November (I think) to a 12 week gap between having covid and the vaccination.
We are in the same position as ds can't be vaccinated after until after Christmas.

We are in exactly the same situation with one of my 15 yr olds. It's now 12 weeks and we missed last week's jabs in school by a fortnight as he had Covid in Sept.

Thank you, I didn't know this at all! It only takes us to the week after but glad I know now not to take her next week. Was hoping I had a bit longer! It's going to be so awful having to get her there and I have no idea what to do if she won't go Confused such a stressful time!

Children at higher risk (ASD can tick that box) are allowed at the shorted dose interval. It might be worth checking first.

There's only a week between so will take her the week after and not risk getting turned away. It also won't be Christmas week then as I know she will struggle to cope
With the feeling unwell and sore arm after.

Thanks all. @PurpleDaisies I wonder is the exception noted in the extract that you kindly shared might apply - my concern is whether the immunity protects against the new variant...

Exactly the same here with my teen. Dr said 8 weeks would now be fine as it's new guidance in times of high infection rates. Going to the centre on Wed when should be 8 weeks so hoping they'll allow it.

My dd has asd too…could she have it earlier than the 12 weeks. So hard to balance to risks and benefits.

I have booked DS a vaccine on Sunday so we will find out then if they're not prepared to do it at 9 weeks...the NHS website still says 12 weeks...

Following. We are in exactly the same situation. My DD was covid positive 3 days before her school vaccinations. Would love to hear if anyone gets their 12-15 jabbed before the 12 week mark. Thanks

Oh that's a total PITA. DD was due to have her jab at school back in October but for some reason they didn't get everyone done. Then thought I'd delay until after her mocks (just in case she had a reaction) but guess what? Nearly finished them and tested COVID+ and only came out of self-isolation mid-week. So clearly now won't be able to be jabbed until March. Not impressed.

I wonder if they’ll change the guidance with the new variant (as per advice in that link posted).

Other countries are sticking to 28 days (well the US is).

I’ve booked DS for mid Jan (not had Covid) but lots of his friends are booking and they’ve had Covid recently. The school WhatsApp group are all saying 28 days. I don’t want to correct them but I don’t think many know about the 3 months rule?

Yes new variant and in times of high infection then the guidance should change.

DS was turned away. He referred to the official guidance on NHS website which still says 12 weeks. He then whatsapped a group of docs including the local trust's clinical director & they are all working on the basis of 12 weeks.
