Which booster after 2 x Astra Z?

71 replies

Valaris · 12/12/2021 20:48

I'm 31. I'm double jabbed. Both jabs were AstraZeneca (1st one in March, second one in June)

I saw in the newspaper that having two jabs of AZ gives 0 protection against Omicron. (I'll try and find the article and I'll link it)

Which is the best vaccine to get after two AZ for max protection? After the news tonight, I'm going to go to a walk in centre for a booster tomorrow.

@Whichjab

Doesn't matter. Pfizer or modern, big questions will be asked about AZ in the future I feel.
Why do you think this ?
Cookerhood · 12/12/2021 23:08

Questions about how many hundreds of thousands of lives it has saved around the world? Or millions perhaps.

Sosoo · 12/12/2021 23:19

Don’t forget that many people caught and recovered from Covid before the vaccines. Those most at risk are still elderly and clinically vulnerable people.

@GoodTid

I'm sure some don't get a choice, but some people go on (and on) about no-one getting a choice, and that just isn't true.
The vast majority don't get a choice though, so that's why most people are saying they didn't. I have had 3 now and didn't have a choice at either. Neither has anyone I know who has been vaccinated. You are clearly lucky to be in a location which can offer this but the majority aren't. You saying you're fed up of people saying you don't get a choice is the same as others saying they didn't, it's just personal experience.

I had Pfizer after AZ and the Dr who gave me my booster said it was the best combo for protection but this was before the emergence of Omicron 🤷🏼‍♀️

frozendaisy · 13/12/2021 12:15

I assumed I would have Pfizer, but here I am with moderna in.

frozendaisy · 13/12/2021 12:15

I don't care either way

Babyroobs · 13/12/2021 13:13

I had Pfizer after 2 x AZ. Is AZ no longer given at all ?

Not for boosters, no, unless there is a medical reason (for example allergies to the mRNA vaccine ingredients).

Well that's a hard one. After two Astras, I'd have said do yourself a favour and treat yourself to a Merc.

Whatifthisisit · 13/12/2021 13:50

DH and I had boosters at a walk-in today, both previously had 2 AZs. He was directed to the Pfizer line, I had Moderna. Most people seemed to be getting Moderna. DH is 46, I am 50, just wondered out of curiosity if our ages made a difference in what we were given?

Age wise They recommended Pfizer to the under 40's due to the risk of sinus blood clots
Im 56 and all have been Pfizer but no choice anyway( booster on 30 November)

Duckrace · 13/12/2021 15:00

I had Pfizer after 2 AZ and was fine from the off.

HunkyPunk · 13/12/2021 15:04

I wasn’t offered a choice. I got given Moderna.

SirensofTitan · 13/12/2021 15:10

Where are people getting a choice? With boosters in such demand don't you just take what they have when you get there and breathe a sigh of relief

GoodTid · 13/12/2021 15:16

@SirensofTitan we were able to book the original two vaccines at two hospitals, both carrying a different vaccine.

For the booster I called a local chemist and chose out of the two they had.

Valaris · 13/12/2021 17:35

I had Moderna.

I live in a city and there's a lot of walk-in centres available. When you go on the website to locate a centre, it tells you which booster they are using, which is why I asked as I'd go to the one with a best one for me (30's and 2 AZ's.)

But after reading your comments, I just went to the closest one, which was doing both, and let them decide what pine to put me in!

It’s the same MRNA technology, it really doesn’t matter.

ClowningAround21 · 13/12/2021 18:58

@nordica

Moderna is half but only because the full dose is bigger than a full dose of the other vaccines, if that makes sense.

Anyway the Moderna and Pfizer are very similar and you won't get a choice.

Of course you get a choice, you look at your walk in centre on line, it tells you what they are offering and you go to the one that has Pfizer or Moderna. Our major walkin is all Moderna but some of the smaller ones are Pfizer, this is done because some younger people need their 2nd dose, so need to know what is being offered.

I went Moderna because it is supposed to be slightly better.

ImmutableSexQueen · 14/12/2021 22:04

Local centre does both, older people were getting Pfizer.
