Boris Xmas quiz leak, surely he has to resign now?

There is a photo now of Boris hosting a work Xmas quiz with wine and beer when mixing of households and work parties not allowed.
Surely he has to resign or will be keep stating lies as fact that all guidelines were followed?

Tbh this is such a non event most will just be fed up with the media obsession over it

rrhuth · 12/12/2021 09:42

Not very afraid of Covid despite instilling fear in the population. And this is why it does actually matter. Either the rules were necessary, in which case those making the rules should have followed them, or they were not necessary, in which case none of us should have been asked to follow them.

It is not acceptable to have (as I think the line goes) one rule for us and another for them.

We really needed an honest PM.

Mark Drakeford is not exactly a charisma politician, but you get the sense he told people what he thought was right and followed it himself.

rrhuth · 12/12/2021 09:43

@Motheroftigers I would be very intereted to see that - I googled when you posted but could not see anything? It does depend when it was and what the rules were at the time but I have not seen anything about it.

rrhuth · 12/12/2021 09:52

@Warhertisuff

You misquote/misrepresent me entirely. Please stop having a bash at me personally.

My point is - if the government saw fit to fine others £10,000 for xyz, they should have stuck to the same rules themselves. I was never in favour of those huge fines for ordinary people, some have had their lives ruined as a result of now being in huge debt.

If you are in favour of one rule for Johnson and another for ordinary people, that is your look out. I just believe in fairness. Nowhere have I said people on this thread should be in trouble, I just said if the law is x, the law is x. The law was made by Johnson, he should have the basic fucking decency to follow the rules he has imposed on all of the country.

Motheroftigers · 12/12/2021 09:52

@Octavia174 we are absolutely better under a tory government at the moment as Labour had no direction or real leadership or idea who their voters were.

I was from a very long standing Labout family, North West. But Jeramy Corbin wrecked that party and turned it in to more liberal the the libdems. There was so much infighting, changes to what they thought the average Labour support was. They did not represent me, in fact they actively went against me.

They have still not got their act together. All they can do is chomp at the heels of the tory party rather than stand alone and show how amazing they are.

I cringe every time Angela Raynor opens her gob. She is supposed to stand for single mothers - I was a single mother. She does not represent me. All she can do is slag off the opposition and shout rather stand alone and show how amazing she is.

Labour are still not good enough to take over, they are not.

And that is bad.

sashagabadon · 12/12/2021 09:59

I haven’t read the thread but we all had Xmas quizzes last year didn’t we and sat with our team/ colleagues. I am not sure how a team quiz would work with each team having different team members sitting on different computers ( presumably in same office) Confused
How would team members confer? It would be a nightmare.
Personally I think it was nice of Boris to attend. We all hate these things ( or is that just me!) and they are to be endured rather than enjoyed. We’ve got one this year too and will be with our team/ office.
If we all have to be on separate computers ( but in same office) I’m giving it a miss and going home early Grin

Player067 · 12/12/2021 09:59

The photo doesn’t show the 70 odd people who were (allegedly) crowded round screens/ drinking until late. But it is at least evidence that warrants further investigation by the met. I mean, a photo of the boss sitting with guys wearing Santa hats and tinsel… that’s at least a case to answer.

rrhuth · 12/12/2021 10:06

Think the fact that this was said on Marr shows why it is a big problem for the government:

Andrew Marr: “Was he breaking the law?”

Former Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer: “Well it looks as though he was”.

The Met so far have refused to investigate based on lack of evidence. Now there is some evidence of something. The Met are now also being sued for not investigating. The only way to determine if the PM broke a law is for the Met to investigate. Once the PM is being investigated by the Met, the opposition leaflets write themselves.

Player067 · 12/12/2021 10:08

Yes I agree @rrhuth - this is the real significance IMO.

If a work Xmas quiz on zoom but with colleagues in teams sitting together ( as how else logistically would you do it? Seriously what is your suggestion?) is a matter for the police we have all collectively lost our minds.

@Motheroftigers
So you don't agree with better ventilation in schools? decent sick pay for low paid, so they can afford to isolate? Properly funded NHS? life long learning? (instead of loans under the tory plans) Removal of nursing bursaries? closer coop with the EU? more funding for schools? increase funding for womens refuges? better pay for carers?

You don't want any of that? instead you want higher NI for low paid, no proportional increase for the wealthy, no solution for social care, no plan to recruit more nhs staff, instead just waste billions on agency staff and no plan to cut the 6m waiting for treatment? hasn't sorted out cladding, no 40 hospitals, not a single one has even been planned!! no extra police either.

Just watching Liz Truss making a complete fool of herself at the G7 press conf, so little knowledge, was asked about Iran and replied with "we got brexit done" yet she is apparently so much better than Lammy.

Can imagine ever thinking this 2 years ago?

madisonbridges · 12/12/2021 10:15

Andrew Marr: “Was he breaking the law?”

Former Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer: “Well it looks as though he was”.

Oh well, if the completely independent Keir Starmer says it... 😂 And even he can't say for sure. Not that he ever says anything for sure! Two plonkers together.

TidyDancer · 12/12/2021 10:15

@SickAndTiredAgain

Surely a virtual quiz was within the rules, and indeed the kind of thing encouraged to keep morale up during restrictions? If some virtual attendees broke rules, was that really Boris Johnson's fault?

Well, I think technically Boris did also break the rules because it was an event for mainly social reasons, and he was mixing - there were two other people sitting with him.

I agree though that it’s hardly the most egregious rule breaking, however he has spent the last week saying “don’t know anything about any Christmas events, but I’ve been told all guidelines were followed.” This is clearly untrue, even if this picture shows pretty minor rule breaking.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t the last picture released. They gave him a few days to say nothing happened, then there was the Stratton video, so he spends a few days saying ok maybe something happened but I don’t know anything about it, then this picture. It wouldn’t surprise me if they gave him a few days to say “ok yes sorry, small transgression, but I didn’t think of it because it’s not really a “party” like I was being asked about” and then release something else.

This is it for me, expect more to come out in the next few days. The leaker is testing the water right now.

sashagabadon · 12/12/2021 10:16

Half the countries work places had xmas quiz zooms in December 2020. So If this is a “police matter” then it’ll take up the entirety of 2022 investigating them all. Probably thousands up and down the land.

I agree. It’s completely bonkers how some people have lost their internal compass as to what is/ isn’t bad behaviour Confused Almost as ridiculous as the cheese in coffee solution to avoid going to the shops to buy milk in April 2020 Grin
xxxGirlCrushxxx · 12/12/2021 10:21

Nah, clutching at straws a bit here I think

daisydoh · 12/12/2021 10:33

@MyOtherProfile

I am desperate for Johnson to go but I just don't get this. He was virtually hosting. I know it shows he knew some people were attending in person but he wasn't there.

Frankly this was the least of all the shitty things he has done and if people haven't got him out for the more serious things why should this be the hill on which he dies?

I agree I think the quiz is really not a big deal. They're at their desks for Christmas sake it could have been a ten minute quiz for all we know at the end of the days work - does it really matter??
Darkpheonix · 12/12/2021 10:36

@sashagabadon totally agree. Still laugh everytime someone mentions the cheese I coffee. That whole time on MN was truly Bagshot!

Bagshot? That should be 'batshit' 🤣

rrhuth · 12/12/2021 10:47

Of course Starmer isn't independent!? People do say strange things.

The point is Johnson is wounded, with very little support left, and peck peck peck it goes on. Starmer is in a good spot just now. Best thing that could happen is for Downing Street to dig in.

Turning into a witch hunt now. Hoenstly don't care. Majority of people will have broken a rule along the way. Most of us aren't even wearing the appropriate mask anyway or wearing it correctly. Very few will be able to say they followed the rules to the letter

Probably not but surely of all people the PM should be the most able to, hey? The people setting the rules should be the most conscious of sticking to them, not the least.
