Worried about vaccine/menstrual link

I'm double jabbed, but since then I've had an awful issue with my periods and I'm a little worried about the booster, I'm wondering if anyone else has similar experiences.

Back in September out of nowhere I had the heaviest bleeding I've ever had in my life, a week after a normal period. It was very distressing as gigantic clots and intermittent very heavy gushing. My normal is very light and pretty regular periods that last 5/6 days, this lasted 10 days and I had to take pills to stop it.

I was told I should see a gp, so when I saw a nurse for something else I asked about it and they said probably a one off and possibly linked to vaccine. Shouldn't happen again, I have the implant but I've had the implant for many many years with no problem like that.

Then it happened again, extremely heavy and unusual bleeding. I saw the gp who also mentioned the vaccine. I've had a clear smear test and have an ultrasound next week but the vaccine is the only thing I can think of causing it if the ultrasound
Is fine. Now again, only 2 weeks after my last bleed I am having pain and unusual bleeding again like both times before it got very very heavy!! I'm talking extremely heavy here.

Just to stress both gp and nurse said there hasn't been official studies and this is anecdotal but I'm a little worried about what will happen after my third and whether this is happening to others too!

In my fabulous sample size of one I can say that whilst the first two vaccines thoroughly messed with my periods the booster has had precisely no effect.
If that helps?!

Sassy31 · 11/12/2021 19:39

Also experiencing two periods a month and heavy bleeding, since being vaccinated and I have heard of other women who have experienced the same.
I hear what your saying and I’m extremely worried about getting a booster, which may make my bleeding worse. I have two small children to think off, if I have another reaction. You need to think of yourself and your health going forward.

I was double jabbed with pzifer and I've had irregular periods ever since.
I went to my GP who completely dismissed it being related to the jab. But a quick search online shows I'm not the only one with this problem.
My 2nd jab was in June. Before my jabs I was always regular 28/28 days. Not I've had 55 days or longer cycles. Right now I'm on day 72 without a period.
I'm 33 and haven't had any other changes in my life/health since the jab just period changes!
It's also making me doubt having the booster.

I'm (maybe) thinking about baby no2 next year and now my cycles are completely out I'm really unsure on it all.

OP, I am literally having this same worry about the booster. Happily had both doses but my god - my periods. It was awful and so distressing and I've never experienced anything like the clots or the heaviness. It was the sort of heaviness that didn't matter that I was 10 metres from a bathroom, my clothes were soaked through and the same 30 minutes later They have only just almost settled now, 5 months later and I'm fearful the booster will set them off again.

I had a miscarriage not long after I had my first vaccine( I did not know I was pregnant at the time)
Ever since then I do have heavier periods that last for about 2 days then get lighter.
Heavy to the point of leaking during the night-This has never been an issue for me before.
I wondered if it had something to do with the miscarriage but now thinking it may have been the vaccine.

I was on the pill for over 3 years when I had my vaccines. Ever since my first one back in April my periods went crazy! Bleeding for weeks very heavily, it was so horrible 😔

I got so sick of it I’ve actually come off the pill (in August) to try and ‘reset’ my cycle (I plan to start taking it again at some point in the next 6 months or so) I’ve had 2 periods since coming off and touch wood they’ve been very normal so I’m hoping it’s worked!

I am worried about getting the booster though - I’m scared it will send my cycle back into a frenzy! Though I’m hoping if I get it while off contraception it won’t be a problem 🤞

Every woman I know under 50 has had period changes since having the covid vaccine. Missed periods, heavy periods, irregular periods etc.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 11/12/2021 20:03

My periods have been insane since jab 1. Over 9 months now. I've had both jabs plus booster. I haven't been on hormonal contraception for years, had very sensible well behaved periods and now I am in agony, very clotty etc. Peculiar cycle. I've reported it via that yellow card scheme. Seeing GP for investigation to check it's nothing else too.

DingleyDel · 11/12/2021 20:04

There is clearly disruption to menstrual cycles. I’ve had regular periods (with a short disruption after a miscarriage) for more than 15 years, even when exclusivity breastfeeding. Since my last Pfizer jab in June my cycle has doubled in length! Early 30s so not near menopause age. I’ve had dc so I’m not particularly worried and will have the booster, mainly because I’m worried about omicron. I have to say before the emergence of omicron I was considering not having the booster, as I’ve had covid pre vaccine very mildly and thought that I’ve essentially had 3 ‘doses’ now. If I were thinking about or trying to conceive the cycle distruptuon would be a concern, though not as much of a concern as contacting severe covid whilst pregnant. But I do think they need to research more into this.

safefacespace · 11/12/2021 20:21

Wow.. lots of people. Sorry to hear of those who've had miscarriages Daffodil mine was Pfizer, I'd not heard of this yellow card thing I'll check it out

It's all over Reddit and there have been thousands of threads and posts for months now. Here's a thread from 8 months ago. www.reddit.com/r/AskWomenOver30/comments/mwuv9d/anyone_noticing_menstrual_cycle_changes_after/

Research is being done at the University of Illinois. I know this because they were asking women affected to contact them and thousands did - that was 8 months ago.

There are many articles in medical and research journals about this - here's one in the British Medical Journal from 16/9/21:

This hasn't been my experience at all. I've had 2 Pfizer jabs and no change at all. In fact I got pregnant after 5 months of trying and 2 months after my second vaccine. My sister and 3 friends were discussing it too and only 1 had a slightly later than expected period once and then back to normal.
nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 11/12/2021 20:31

Vaccine made my period as regular as clockwork for 4 months. I was thoroughly annoyed with it as I normally only come on once every two or three months. I ended up on a 35 day cycle. My usual average is more like 48 to 72 days. Its gradually going back to normal now though.

MarbleQueen · 11/12/2021 21:40

Op in your shoes I would get an antibody test. You might not even need a booster.
