Yes

Cookerhood · 11/12/2021 14:20

@dropitlikeitsloth

The omicrom (no "n")

Isn’t it Omicron? It’s Omicron in Greek.

Oops, yes! My home thought it knew better. I meant no "n" after the m, and then managed to add another n at the end! Blush
Sprostongreen21 · 11/12/2021 14:30

The hospital I work in has had positive patient omicron tests. No idea about the patient conditions. We’ve just had communications about it.

dropitlikeitsloth · 11/12/2021 14:32

@Cookerhood 😊 It’s ok I was starting to question everything then 🤣

Frazzled2207 · 11/12/2021 14:39

@dropitlikeitsloth

I had no idea we were to register pcrs on the nhs app.

@Frazzled2207 Nor did I. I literally got pestered by text (3 texts in an hour) asking me to do it.

I could be wrong about it being the MHS App. All I know is I clicked a link went to an NHS site and logged it. Might have been track and trace. I can’t actually think straight at the moment ☺️

That’s odd. I thought the whole point of T&T was that they registered it for you. Pretty sure lots of ill folk won’t be bothered with that.
Frazzled2207 · 11/12/2021 14:40

@Pinkflipflop85

Yes. I had it confirmed.

Plus 17 other members of staff at school and 10 children (that we know of).

Oh no sorry to hear. What happened to the school if you don’t mind my asking. Do you have whole classes isolating or just the positive kids and staff?
Pinkflipflop85 · 11/12/2021 15:01

We have 4 year groups at home isolating.

I have had the same message. We were at a small function on Sat night and Tuesday morning lots of people developed symptoms. Negative lfts but positive pcr the same day. 12 cases now confirmed. Very fast turnaround so I’m sure it’s omicron. Very bad cold symptoms with headache and aches and pains everywhere. No loss of taste or smell yet. DH has had awful night sweats but today we are all feeling a lot better.

@Frazzled2207

So weird. I got a text, a chaser and then this more urgent chaser all in an hour of getting test results and so I gave in and did it.

Hope you’re all ok. I have had the night sweats too, literally woke up soaked through it’s so horrible. I was thinking they might know from the tests if it was Omicron but it could be assumed because it’s the latest one flying around.
bigbeachedwales · 11/12/2021 15:40

@Cookerhood

The omicrom (no "n") has an s gene dropout which can be seen on some PCRs (I think it depends on the lab), so they have a pretty good idea that if it has an s gene dropout it is omicrom. This was how alpha was originally spotted but there's virtually none of that now - before omicrom came along there were very few sample (I think Whitty said 0.1%?) but that percetage is rising. I'm assuming suspected cases will be sequenced to check, and a certain percentage of other samples are sequenced too.
If you're going to tell people how to spell things it's worth making sure you spell it right too Hmm
NightmareSlashDelightful · 11/12/2021 15:44

Yes, but in South Africa not here.

A close friend of mine lives there, in one of the big cities. He says everyone’s got it right now, it spreads really fast, but symptoms are almost universally mild to moderate cold symptoms. He’s 2x vaccinated (early 50s) but not boosted, and currently has it, he said it’s a ‘sniffle’ for him.

if the symptoms are mild how can you even justify getting a test?

You don't need to justify anything - just take a test!
dropitlikeitsloth · 11/12/2021 16:24

@MrsLargeEmbodied

That’s a good point. I only tested because I was pinged. I had mild cold symptoms at first and did an LFT and PCR anyway, both negative. So it confirmed a cold for me. My symptoms got worse over a few days and so I did another LFT (positive) and PCR was positive too. Now if my symptoms hadn’t worsened, due to the first negative PCR I would have carried on thinking it was a cold. Or if I’d have had no symptoms at all. There’s probably loads of people walking around with it.
MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/12/2021 16:33

@Pinkflipflop85
a pcr?
because an lateral flow is for no symptoms
a pcr is for symptoms
but the symptoms are mild. very difficult

OP posts:
Cookerhood · 11/12/2021 16:48

LFT works perfectly well with symptoms. It doesn't know.

Oakdene · 11/12/2021 17:02

Yes, again schools. Staff and pupils across three schools at home in isolation. Chaos as far as keeping schools fully open as it spreads so quickly.

Pinkflipflop85 · 11/12/2021 17:03

There really isn't anything difficult about it!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/12/2021 17:53

@Cookerhood
fair point, but that is what it says on the instructions,
it is perhaps all in the timing?

OP posts:
Thelongdarkteatime · 11/12/2021 17:54

Yes. Whole family. Parents double vaccinated. Had sore throats and headaches for three days, but all good now thankfully.

Nosquit · 11/12/2021 17:59

Yes. My best friend Sad

No, it's simply that LFTs were introduced as a broad brush stroke to catch asymptomatic infections out in the community. They are less accurate so will miss some, but they would catch others where people were asymptomatic and didn't know they had it. They work just as well if you have symptoms (probably better!)

Isitmeorthemm · 11/12/2021 18:06

Yes a handful of children from school have it and possibly neighbours too they're not yet sure if theirs is omicron
