Are you testing regularly?

My understanding is that we are meant to be testing twice weekly with lateral flows. We haven’t been doing this. In real life I don’t know anyone who is doing this.

I tested my youngest a few weeks ago when she had a temperature and it was positive. But I only tested her because she had symptoms. We tested in the couple of weeks following that (following negative PCRs) and we never did get it (somehow!) but now we are not testing any more.

I just don’t really want to go looking for it, in all honesty. From where I am it looks like a lot of people are doing the same.

Oh do she tested positive on a lateral flow then negative on a pcr? I've heard of this happening a few times but the die hard fans of the lateral flow tests won't admit that they can be wrong

Toadsinholes · 10/12/2021 16:09

I’m the same as you. I haven’t ever felt unwell, and not willing to keep testing for something I’ve had 3 jabs for unless I feel I have symptoms. I’m at the point where I just don’t care anymore.

Marianne1234 · 10/12/2021 16:10

Oh no sorry I didn’t phrase that very clearly.

She was positive. Her PCR was also positive. The rest of us were negative and remained so.

I'm honestly worried about the long term consequences of shoving things up your nose multiple times a week for years...

RuthW · 10/12/2021 16:12

Yes I teat at least twice a week. More if I'm going anywhere or have been in any contact. I work for nhs.

Same as my dd who is a teacher.

My retired partner does them same.

BHX3000 · 10/12/2021 16:12

I haven’t tested regularly since getting the vaccines in summer. Work have just reintroduced weekly PCR testing so I guess I will be doing those for the foreseeable.

Have only done the odd LFT for travel or when feeling a bit off (with symptoms that don’t trigger a PCR where I live at least).

You don't care about other people you mean. There are vulnerable people in society that either cannot have the vaccinations or for whom they aren't as effective and yet have NO choice about going to work, school, medical appointments...
TheNoonBell · 10/12/2021 16:13

I did one last Christmas when I had COVID and nearly puked. None since.

Amberflames · 10/12/2021 16:14

Yes we are. Me and OH have been going into the office a few times a week and DC1 is at school. So yes, we have been testing. I know plenty of people who have been asymptomatic and only picked up via LFTs.

What exactly do you think is going to happen? It’s not coke you’re shoving up there.

TheNoonBell · 10/12/2021 16:14

My bellweather is "can I smell DP's farts" if yes, no COVID. Supply is plentiful.

Hmm cocaine yep! A cotton bud -no. ETAF are you doing with it, that it would be a problem??

Ha ha cross posted with you!
megletthesecond · 10/12/2021 16:15

Yes. 2 or 3 times a week. And reporting the results.

Loads of people I know are doing it. Especially school parents. They’ve picked up a surprising number of cases (all confirmed by PCR). If you don’t care who you give it to then I guess you wouldn’t test. I don’t know anyone IRL who admits to not testing.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 10/12/2021 16:17

@Marianne1234. Yes. Twice a week mostly (occasionally more if a specific event)

Amberflames · 10/12/2021 16:22

I have to admit I don’t bother to report the results any more.
Laurel1 · 10/12/2021 16:22

Yep twice a week or more sometimes. Hubs has to every day for work.

My colleague has never done one. I don't really get it. But there you go.

However I would say that I got 4 positive lft for me earlier in week then 2 inconclusive pcrs and 1 negative pcr. It's all very odd. I'm isolating anyway.

Nikita1709 · 10/12/2021 16:25

Yep. At least twice weekly. It's the only way I have found out I currently have it. No symptoms other than a very mild blocked nose. If I hadn't been testing regularly I probably never would have known and been happily going about my day infecting others.

Notstrongandstable · 10/12/2021 16:26

Secondary age DS twice a week and me before any social gathering and if I feel a bit off (but not with the big 3 symptoms).
I know quite a few people who've been asymptomatic so it does help catch cases.

user1497787065 · 10/12/2021 16:28

I have never tested. I don't work, meet a few people outside whilst walking the dog and shop once a week. I didn't realise that I should be doing so.

trumpisagit · 10/12/2021 16:30

Kids test twice a week, I usually test at the same time.
DH is currently testing every day for work.
None of us have had covid yet, so feel like we are just waiting for the inevitable.

ColettesEarrings · 10/12/2021 16:31

We all do three times weekly lfts, having 2 teens in different secondary schools. It picked up ds2's completely asymptomatic covid six weeks ago. We would never have known otherwise.

Toadsinholes · 10/12/2021 16:32

@NovemberNovemberDarkNights actually, maybe you’re right. I am past caring about randoms I don’t know anymore, insofar as I have had my jabs, I wear a mask, I don’t breathe all over other people, but I draw the line at repeatedly testing for something I am most likely to be not carrying on the off chance that, even despite doing all of the above, I might give them covid.

I doubt I’m the only one. I am only willing to do so much - and if that makes me a bad person, I’ll own it 🤷‍♀️

SquirrelFan · 10/12/2021 16:44

Yep, work for a school. Nasal swabs make it much easier. I know they're not perfect, but if there's a chance it could stop me spreading it, I'm in.
