Are you testing regularly?

My understanding is that we are meant to be testing twice weekly with lateral flows. We haven’t been doing this. In real life I don’t know anyone who is doing this.

I tested my youngest a few weeks ago when she had a temperature and it was positive. But I only tested her because she had symptoms. We tested in the couple of weeks following that (following negative PCRs) and we never did get it (somehow!) but now we are not testing any more.

I just don’t really want to go looking for it, in all honesty. From where I am it looks like a lot of people are doing the same.

@TheNoonBell

I did one last Christmas when I had COVID and nearly puked. None since.
I did one last year when I was signed up to Zoe. Couldn't reach my tonsils. Stuck it way too far into my nose (had seen some scary Youtube videos). Fainted, fell to the floor knocking over the chair. Resolved not to test again (and was very avoidant of risky places).

BUT, the tests are much easier now! I've got into doing them now. You just have to circle around the inside of your nostril, and you get the test results instantly.

I quite enjoy it. It's like scratchcards, only cheaper!! You can get 7 at a time in the post and they're free!

FindingMeno · 10/12/2021 16:51

No but I had covid recently.

WhenSepEnds · 10/12/2021 16:52

@Amberflames

Yes we are. Me and OH have been going into the office a few times a week and DC1 is at school. So yes, we have been testing. I know plenty of people who have been asymptomatic and only picked up via LFTs.

I'm honestly worried about the long term consequences of shoving things up your nose multiple times a week for years...

What exactly do you think is going to happen? It’s not coke you’re shoving up there.

I know but you're not really meant to be shoving anything up there are you?
GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 10/12/2021 16:53

Yes twice weekly, work in NHS.

manolantern · 10/12/2021 16:55

People have things shoved up even less suitable places and it doesn't do them any harm!!!

Geminijust · 10/12/2021 16:57

Have only ever done 1, when the DC tested positive (it was negative). Didn't know you were supposed to - only if required for your job. If I had symptoms I would test, but not otherwise.

IAmHereForTheFood · 10/12/2021 16:58

Yes.
Two or 3 times a week.

DH is CEV and is unlikely to have developed a full immune response from the vaccine so I have to be sure I don’t catch it and pass it on to him from all the selfish fuckers out there who don’t care about anyone but themselves.

Malteser71 · 10/12/2021 16:58

There’s a lot of discrepancy.

I work in the nhs. I WFH from March 2020-July 2021, so was never asked to do LFTs.

When I returned, I changed jobs, I no longer see patients face to face and I’m not required to test/report.

I’m triple jabbed, never had symptoms. Live with DH who tests twice a week. I’ve literally never done one

EenyMeenyMinyNo · 10/12/2021 17:00

Yep, DD14 and I around 2 or 3 times a week. Always test before I go to play skittles (it's a westcountry thing in the pub 😉) And always test before I see my folks who are in their 70's. Basically anytime i am going to be spending extended amount of time with others. Its an easy and quick mitigation to save hassle or worse for others. Why would you not?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/12/2021 17:02

No. The LFTs showed negative when I had Covid so I don't think they're much use. I'll PCR if I have symptoms.

nordica · 10/12/2021 17:08

Yes, generally before I'm going to be mixing with others in close proximity (I wfh so I'm not out and about in indoor spaces more than a couple of times a week at the moment).

Buzzinwithbez · 10/12/2021 17:10

I've tested if I've had mild symptoms that weren't the big 3 and would be spending time in proximity with people.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 10/12/2021 17:15

DP and i test twice a week and kids test every sunday, we dont report the results.

eightmaidsamilking · 10/12/2021 17:17

Yes, twice a week for months here. One test (no symptoms at all) was positive a few weeks ago, symptoms appeared within 48 hours of positive LFT which was followed by positive PCR.

eightmaidsamilking · 10/12/2021 17:17

Testing since I went back into work on two days a week which was probably July when the restrictions were relaxed wasn't it?

hopeishere · 10/12/2021 17:19

I've done a few. We are supposed to do it when we go to the office. Plus when DS had covid we did it every other day plus a PCR.

DrRamsesEmerson · 10/12/2021 17:20

Twice a week for work, and DD does twice a week for school. Report the results when the NHS site lets me (about half the time, it's really unreliable). DH has done 1 test in all the time they've been available, he doesn't go anywhere where he needs to.

DrRamsesEmerson · 10/12/2021 17:21

I've also done 2 PCRs recently (both times because of outbreaks at work).

BirdyBirdyTweetTweet · 10/12/2021 17:22

No.

HesterShaw1 · 10/12/2021 17:24

@Toadsinholes

I’m the same as you. I haven’t ever felt unwell, and not willing to keep testing for something I’ve had 3 jabs for unless I feel I have symptoms. I’m at the point where I just don’t care anymore.
Me too.

People can call me selfish and stupid and all the names under the sun. I just do not care any more.

JemimaMuddledUp · 10/12/2021 17:25

Yes. I test twice a week as I'm working from the office 2 days a week, plus extras if am going somewhere like the cinema or for a meal with friends or to see elderly relatives. DC test twice a week for school. All results reported.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 10/12/2021 17:25

@IAmHereForTheFood

Yes. Two or 3 times a week.

DH is CEV and is unlikely to have developed a full immune response from the vaccine so I have to be sure I don’t catch it and pass it on to him from all the selfish fuckers out there who don’t care about anyone but themselves.

I hope you are able to keep it away from your DH!

Maybe people not testing @Toadsinholes might think again?

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 10/12/2021 17:27

@HesterShaw1. I'd gladly call you those things!

How can you read posts, like @IAmHereForTheFood and simply say you don't care?

WeatherwaxOn · 10/12/2021 17:27

Yes, we tesr twice weekly + any extra requested for special occasions.
DH is self-employed and generally works 1-2-1 with people. I wfh but have regular meetings in schools I have to attend in person, and DC is at primary school.
We have family and close friends who are immino-suppressed, so do our best to keep everyone safe.

girafferafferaffe · 10/12/2021 18:12

I keep forgetting to do them but I do about 1 a week.
