Anyone else's boss completely ignoring the WFH guidance?

Me (completely computer based job that can easily be done at home): so will we be working from home from Monday then?

My boss (having read the HR guidance stating we should WFH if we can): doesn't look like anything to me. Come in as normal.

🤷‍♀️

Yep I'm expected in, just a load of rubbish.

TheKeatingFive · 10/12/2021 22:01

The job can be done remotely but they are saying it’s “less productive from home.”

I expect there's more than a grain of truth in that tbf.

Wizzbangfizz · 10/12/2021 22:06

I'm so relieved my work is saying they are not shutting the offices. Our chief exec wrote out today and said it's not a lockdown and out offices are open and to be safe and sensible (lft before coming in) very sensible and whilst they are open I will be there.

PatchworkElmer · 10/12/2021 23:03

Mine are ignoring it too- won’t even require us to have a lateral flow test. It’s maddening.

Whathefisgoingon · 10/12/2021 23:40

Worse yet, my employer has set their own guideline as to what constitutes a “covid symtom” ie: if you can complete X task in X timeframe without coughing, this is not a covid cough and you do not need a test.

You couldn’t make it up.

Neither DH and I ever went back tbh. I have worked from home since 2017 and he started in March 2020 and the office never really reopened.

Beautiful Birds
some have gone back in last six weeks or so doing one day a week only if you havent any mobility issues as not enough fire marshals allowed in one same day. However we are now straight back to working from home again following govt guidance
I think it depends on the job you so I'm bot customer facing my job can be easily done from home. I don't need to go into the office to do it. If asked why we need to go back to work albeit part time we are told this is an office based enviroment errr yes maybe in the 80s!!!

@userxx

“is it ? Must tell my mid 70 year old parents who both got it and were absolutely fine. That includes one with lung capacity of around 50%.”

It’s fantastic that your parents were fine but anecdote does not equal data. Age is a significant risk factor for Covid complications.

I'm really shocked mine is ignoring it. We're very flexible anyway and can wfh someytimes. But there's 7 of us in a very small close sitting 6 seated office. Its due to some of us being new in the last month and they want us in for training despite being mostly trained up now.

orangetriangle · 12/12/2021 20:37

nomorecoco
we have had lots of new people start since the pandemic and all have been fully trained from home using teams share my screen and via telephone calls via headset connected to teams no problems whatsoever

pourmeanotherglass · 12/12/2021 21:09

We've found a balance of hybrid working that works for us so we're not changing. We have tasks that can be done from home and tasks that can't so have a rota. If we rota the bare minimum number of people in, then we end up wasting a lot of time finding cover if someone is ill or has to isolate, so it works better if we rota more than the bare minimum.

orangetriangle · 12/12/2021 21:12

in my office job we dont have one single task that cant be done from home even the managers higher managers at that manage to do everything from home. I think if people really thought about it more things can be done from home than you first thought if not all. It's all about stopping the spread and keeping people safe we are now on level 4 please think twice about not working from home the new variant is highly transmissable and we dont know yet how severe it is
