Anyone else's boss completely ignoring the WFH guidance?

Me (completely computer based job that can easily be done at home): so will we be working from home from Monday then?

My boss (having read the HR guidance stating we should WFH if we can): doesn't look like anything to me. Come in as normal.

If a company wants everyone in the office to give 100% then surely as people get covid each person will be down 100%.
Better to have lots of staff WFH and not ill.

Motheroftigers · 10/12/2021 16:57

@immersivereader

I think the WFH novelty has worn off.

^

It's hasn't. Believe me. It's here to stay.

I was talking about the people that pay the wages.
Nidan2Sandan · 10/12/2021 17:11

My company made the decision for us to all work from home on Wednesday morning, then the announcement came out and I wondered if someone whispered in their ear Xmas Grin

I'm happy wfh, but I was happy doing hybrid working too. We did 2 days a week in the office which was a good compromise.

DH is working in the office, hes emergency services but high ranking. He could wfh but says he couldn't, in good conscience, send his officers out to work and then stay home himself.

Tiree1965 · 10/12/2021 17:24

We’ve all been told to work from home again, we’ve been doing 2 days a week in the office since Summer. We’ve also had all work funded Christmas parties cancelled so the don’t act as super spreader events.

Thatsveryniceofyou · 10/12/2021 17:26

My boss has ignored it. In fact even messaged the team saying that he would be disappointed and question a staff members commitment of they wfh depsite us all wfh since march 2020 and still getting our work done and all deadlines met! He does like to micromanage. . .

userxx · 10/12/2021 17:30
@userxx well no, but COVID is undeniably more of an issue the older you get.
is it ? Must tell my mid 70 year old parents who both got it and were absolutely fine. That includes one with lung capacity of around 50%.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 10/12/2021 17:31

We were informed office is open so decide yourself. I decided to go in as I struggled last time and we wfh two days a week anyway.

milly74 · 10/12/2021 17:33

We can if our jobs can be done at home wfh but in otherwise, i can work at hone but am going in as mentally draining and isolating at home all time.

nordica · 10/12/2021 17:48

Surely it would be a savvy business decision to let everyone who can WFH do so - sounds like Omicron spreads quickly in some group settings and having everyone off sick at the same time wouldn't exactly be the best outcome for any business.

Yep, my DH, works on design projects in Sellafield supply chain, which is government funded!!

Sellafield bosses have stated that project staff are essential & have to continue coming in - yet he worked at home full time for 15+ mths, no problem. (They did also refuse to countenance WFH at start of pandemic until lockdown 1 forced their hand, so not surprising really)

If this is mirrored in many other companies, then we will end up back in lockdown as numbers soar.

TheKeatingFive · 10/12/2021 17:59

My boss gave up listening to the government a long time ago. I'm in ROI where our wfh advice has been back in place for a few weeks now. But unless it was made law, there is no intention of us wfh again.

Admittedly we have a large building, where most people have their own offices and ventilation is very good.

Figgyroller · 10/12/2021 18:07

Nope - we went straight back to everyone WFH . The directive came straight after the announcement made. It was voluntary anyway, but we were getting a fair few who were coming in every few days.

V happy here - am completely into a WFH working rhythm. Going back in fine for some degree of collaboration/social contact, but home is much more focused/efficient.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/12/2021 20:13

I suppose the DVLA, banks, O2 etc will carry on giving shoddy service (if any) as they 'have to' work from home

BeautifulBirds · 10/12/2021 20:24

Hasn't been acknowledged where I am, no comms sent out, nadda.

Bagelsandbrie · 10/12/2021 20:26

No mention of it whatsoever at dhs work (all office based / working on pcs that could be easily done from home). I think everyone’s just fed up with it all now and is ignoring the government’s guidelines.

bizboz · 10/12/2021 20:30

I'm a teacher so WFH obviously isn't an option bit aren't employers concerned at the amount of potential sick leave? It has been a real issue in schools.

Brokenrecord3006 · 10/12/2021 20:31

Yep but it's slightly different for us - the boss offered us to wfh and all the staff refused. Boss is happy to do what his staff want to do.

orangetriangle · 10/12/2021 20:41

How strange, have family that's are CS and they've been told to return to office.
CovidCorvid · 10/12/2021 20:53

I work at a university….teaching is staying face to face even though it could be done online. Which is fine….apart from the students complain they can’t hear me when I wear a mask and I’ve been told I must wear one when delivering lectures. 🤷‍♀️

ElectraBlue · 10/12/2021 21:07

We are. Because we need to spend at least some time in the office to see our clients face to face.

I work with people with mental health issues and not all of them wish to be seen by Zoom or phone.

Also I have lost all confidence in this government and now make my own risk assessment.

HereComesTheSun12 · 10/12/2021 21:17

DH's boss, big national company, is saying do what's best for you. Most are carrying on as normal.

Whathefisgoingon · 10/12/2021 21:40

Yes. They have actually said that nothing is changing. The job can be done remotely but they are saying it’s “less productive from home.” They will not even allow shielders to work from home.

Currently have 3 staff off with covid and a few more awaiting PCR’s. Also another two in with family at home with covid. Office is poorly ventilated, nobody follows social distancing, multiple touch points used by everyone, windows usually shut or creaked open slightly, aircon on full blast circulating air from dept to dept, and staff come in with symptoms all the time saying it’s a “cold” so they don’t need to test. My employer trusts them and does not ask for proof of negative PCR’s etc.

Disgraceful

Parsley1234 · 10/12/2021 21:55

DWP civil service we gave been told as we are customer facing we have to be in even though no claimants were coming in 75% fail to attend soon to be 100% I can see. Our union is having a field day offices facing Covid face to be shut it’s a complete joke as everything thus government does is
