So I have an LFT with a practically invisible to the naked eye line and no symptoms. Does anyone see it? Does it count? What next, take another? Or book a PCR test? Or appointment with Specsavers Blush

@Sausagis

Here's a photo with a bit of fiddling
Oh gosh that's quite visible isn't it. Best book a PCR then Confused

Worryingly I couldn't see a line!

sonjadog · 08/12/2021 20:16

I can never see a line on these. Does make me wonder about some of the tests I have taken!

cherin · 08/12/2021 20:38

I can see it, and unfortunately I can see it in one of DS’s LFT too, but my husband is adamant they’re my imagination. They do become more visible ONLY after the 30’, which is when they should not be looked at anymore. Pcr booked for tomorrow. It’s the 4th in 10 days (primary school rife with covid, I am afraid our Xmas holidays are kaputt)

Cherin I can see the one in your DS test very clearly. The other ones in this thread do look negative to me though!

cherin · 08/12/2021 20:57

The problem is that mine only looks this distinct after 30’. If it was like this at the 15’ mark I’d say positive without a doubt. But at 15 (and 20) it really takes squinting in the right light conditions to see it, and I’m the only one i the family who can see it!

cherin · 08/12/2021 20:58

At 15’ it really looks like Op’s sample…

ShiftingSands21 · 08/12/2021 21:09

One question is if there is colour in the line. If not, if it’s a shadow, then that supports the idea that it is negative.

The other is if the line appeared in the time frame written on your test. If not, if it only appeared after, then it doesn’t count.

Lougle · 08/12/2021 21:13

Mine was that faint and it was positive.

sparklefarts · 08/12/2021 21:15

@2toastornot2toast

Negative or positive?
I can't see any line

But...why is the bit where you put liquid yellow? It looks like yellow liquid? Looks like you peed on it!

willithappen · 08/12/2021 21:18

Can clearly see a line there

Muchtoomuchtodo · 08/12/2021 21:21

Surely we’re not meant to have to enhance photos of our tests to decide if they’re positive or not?
If ours don’t have a clearly visible line at 30 minutes they’re in the bin and that’s it!

That is very clear I'm afraid. My DS school is full of it too but he hasn't had a LFT come up positive yet

My husband's always look like this after 30 minutes or even stronger. I am forever sending him for pcrs which come back negative. All of the rest of us are very negative even after 30 minutes. We are taking lots at the moment as there is a large outbreak at ds' school.

Have you got any more info about having colour in the line? I keep getting a very faint grey line at T but PCRs come back negative. I would be very interested in any techical info about the shadow that you mention.

Thank you.

Have had to go for aother PCR today and it's getting very stressful. I don't have any symptoms only testing because I am due to meet up with vulnerable friends.

yaboreme · 08/12/2021 22:17

Same as other poster, I can't see it?

Will be interesting to see what your PCR says.

cherin · 08/12/2021 23:13

I don’t think the colour matters, the nhs page clearly shows faint lines as positive even when grey: www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-adult-social-care-settings/step-by-step-guide-for-asc-staff-to-self-test-using-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

It's booked for 9am tomorrow, I'll update when I get the result! I don't think it'll be positive, surely I'd have some symptoms, runny nose even or a bit of a sore throat?

Mummybearto4 · 09/12/2021 00:54

There's other symptoms I started with diarrhea, head ache, feeling faint now I can't taste or smell. My test was positive even before the test reached the end, waiting for PCR results.

@SmellyOldOwls

You wouldn't necessarily have symptoms... I'm curious because everyone I know currently has covid... some with quite strong symptoms to the niece who tested purely because the whole family had it (8years old) and tested positive with no symptoms at all (it's worth noting she also had a negative LFT).

Hope you get a negative result too.

I've literally been a close contact of about 7 people and am starting to wonder how reliable the LFT are, perhaps I'll book a PCR. I've felt rubbish for about a week but not typical symptoms....

It's all abit confusing.

WarriorN · 09/12/2021 06:42

Both Dh, a neighbour and I had squinters like that a few weeks ago.

All had negative pcrs.

I'm still convinced it was positive.

Very weird.

WarriorN · 09/12/2021 06:43

DH and I have also since both been v close contacts in tow different situations and not tested positive.

TheVampiresWife · 09/12/2021 06:50

I'll update when I get the result! I don't think it'll be positive, surely I'd have some symptoms, runny nose even or a bit of a sore throat?

I was completely asymptomatic and only picked up that (very faint!) positive from routine testing.

yaboreme · 09/12/2021 06:53

It's so strange.

My husband had it in September and myself and DS didn't get it.

Then spent a whole day with my sister and kids, me and my son and they all tested positive a week ago... nothing for us (yet)?? How?

I've been testing me and my son every other day because of work/ nursery? Just seems odd.

ShiftingSands21 · 09/12/2021 09:09

I think the colour does matter but like every aspect of this test it isn’t definitive. But these tests do get evap lines like a pregnancy test, like a shadow or indentation. If and when an evap line appears will depend on the exact test model and things like whether you got a lot of the liquid in there or not. All you can do is follow up with a PCR.
