One in eight people hospitalised with Covid suffer heart damage

Given the amount of people that have been hospitalised, there are real concerns about the future pressures this could put on cardiac services as well as the impact on individuals quality of life.

It's concerning, and the cardiac issues arising from having the disease doesnt seem to be much discussed

Even after Dr Xand was quite open about the impact on him, even being filmed during his illness and the documentary showing him being cardioverted.

julieca · 06/12/2021 18:05

Yes it is pretty much being ignored.

Interesting that it's myocarditis but a much more serious version than the one a small number of people got after vaccine.
Of the many and varied symptoms people report with covid quite a few mention palpitations. I had them for about 2 weeks when I had covid.

Interesting, I’ve been having heart issues recently. I’ve not knowingly had COVID but the rest of my family all got it within 2 days of each other and I didn’t get it but had an awful sinus infection a fortnight prior to them all being positive. I do wonder if my issues are liked to unknowingly having had COVID.

It's very interesting. I wish there was more discussion and study on this both after vaccination and after illness. It seems to be ignored. Perhaps some voluntary monitoring would be useful if it was possible. We are long enough down the road for some of these reactions to be considered and evaluated more systematically worldwide.

@Railk

This wasn't an issue before the vaccines. Now people are getting Covid and suffering from heart damage.
ODFOD I had Covid before the vaccines and had blood clots on the brain, that was fun. Knew other people who had heart problems.

Stop spreading fucking uninformed shit and get a vaccine, pretty please.

My friend died of a heart attack that was ultimately bought about by Covid.

Yes it was.

Ever since the pandemic began more and more people have been joining the cardiac rehab support group my husband is a long standing member of.

Stop scaremongering.

Postdatedpandemic · 06/12/2021 22:58

Since about May 2020 there have been arguments about whether Covid 19 was a respiratory disease or a cardiovascular one.

IndigoC · 06/12/2021 23:00

I know a couple of people who had quite bad Covid and went on to have heart attacks a few months later. May well have been connected.

toomuchlaundry · 06/12/2021 23:01

@Railk name your source for that, and that doesn't include some random on Facebook

You never miss an opportunity to get on your anti vax soap box, do you?

madisonbridges · 06/12/2021 23:03

Shouldn't we just wait and see what the real affects are before people speculate and start to scare others? You can have a complete recovery from myocarditis so I think we need to see what the actual heart conditions and the prognoses are before everyone starts to stress and panic.

Multi-systemic. Gnarly fucker is covid. Get vaccinated if you haven't been yet.
Postdatedpandemic · 06/12/2021 23:07

Totally agree @Northernsoullover a gnarly fucker it is.

AnnieSnap · 06/12/2021 23:08

Someone always has to make a really stupid anti-vaccine point don’t they? 🤷‍♀️

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 06/12/2021 23:15

DP had Covid in Feb 2021 and has long Covid now. He has been suffering with (amongst a long list of other symptoms) palpitations, fast and slow heartbeat for no reason and chest pain. Lovely disease Sad

Effibreast · 06/12/2021 23:15

Go on the long covid facebook pages and many of us have POTS, chest tightness, palpitations etc. Echos are not always picking up the damage caused by covid.

Effibreast · 06/12/2021 23:17

Sorry that was @Railk. This was before vaccines.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 06/12/2021 23:18

Yeah heart issues have always even related ymyo post COVID 19. The documentary with Dr Xand was very early on in the pandemic. I remember watching it..
Yet still shit like how convenient it is that Omicron is being blamed for heart issues when really it is vaccines.
People like that just chose to ignore the fact COVID is a multi organ disease.

Of course it was! Cardiac imaging was full of covid patients with a range of cardiac damage. It's been quite clear from the beginning that covid affects the cardiovascular system. It's no coincidence that those with damaged/aged/ under pressure cardiovascular systems are at greater risk -the obese, diabetics, the elderly, pregnant women, etc.

This is totally false

The cardiac, circulatory and stroke complications were all well known before the vaccines were even in trials.

It's a shame they weren't talked about more in the main stream media, from the very outset. Then there wouldn't be any nonsenses peddled about the timings.

Really? Are you sure?

One of my oldest friends is a nurse in London who caught Covid in April 2020. Three months later she had a serious heart attack. She was treated at King's, where they said they had seen four times as many women in their forties with cardiac issues as normal.

Off with you. Covid is a multi-system disease known to cause heart issues - and this was known pre-vaccine.
