DD2 positive LFT - what are the chances we’ll not all get it?

Metalhead · 05/12/2021 16:25

Yesterday DD2 who’s 6 looked a bit peaky so I took her temperature and it was 38.4C. Took a LFT which was a blazing positive, so the whole family went and got PCR tests this morning. Meanwhile, DD2’s temp is back to normal and she’s feeling right as rain! Whilst we’re waiting for the PCR results, I’m just idly wondering what the chances are of the rest of us (me, DH and 11yo DD1) not catching it? We are supposed to go to Germany for Christmas on the 18th…

Totally possible. My daughters both had it but me and DH didn't. And I hadn't been vaccinated yet at that Time

Frazzled2207 · 06/12/2021 10:22

@Getbehindme

To be honest, it's this part that's driving me the most crackers at the moment. DD1 positive on Thurs, DD2 positive tonight. Both parents are still negative and we share care 50/50 so I'm rather hoping we have slightly better odds.

My tummy isn't right though, but not sure if that's the anxiety.

Similar story here. I am fine but I have a weird mild rash which apparently can be a very early sign.

Dh thinks it’s probably covid-
stress related rather than covid itself!

alwayswantchocolate · 06/12/2021 13:49

Hard to call it. When DS1 got it, DS2 was positive 4 days later, and DH (double vaccinated) 3 days after that. I didn't get it at all (also double vaccinated). You might be lucky, or it might go slowly through the house like a relay baton...

Blabla81 · 06/12/2021 13:57

Dd1 (10) tested positive 2 weeks ago - I tested positive (double jabbed) a week later. Husband (double jabbed) and dd2 (5) have remained negative. The pair of them had another awful virus a week before all this went down (chesty cough, etc) . I wonder if that’s why they didn’t catch covid. I appreciate there is still a chance yet as I’m not yet out of isolation.

QueenJeanie · 06/12/2021 19:00

My 15 year old tested positive at the beginning of October. None of the rest of us got it even though he didn't stay in his room and he was quite ill.

You might be absolutely fine Smile

whiteonesugar · 06/12/2021 19:05

DH got it, then DS who is 6, myself and DS (2) didn’t get it. DH isolated from us for a week until DS was positive but no isolating from DS. He had a temp for about 20 mins and coughed a few times.

SirVixofVixHall · 06/12/2021 19:32

In our family dd2 caught it, not vaccinated, no symptoms. She gave it to DH , he is double vaccinated, he was rough but not seriously ill. My other child ( one vaccine dose) and I (double vaxxed) and I did not catch it.

Bb14 · 06/12/2021 19:38

From your post it seems you won't be going to Germany anyway- but children under 12 have to isolate for 5 days on arrival. This ruined our Christmas plans!

We've got this going on here at the moment.

DD8 got a positive PCR yesterday, DH negative PCR, I've had a negative LFT and so has DS12. My 3-year-old has a cough/sneeze/high temperature but there's no way I can test him without one of us getting hurt so I'm just assuming he's got it and isolating him anyway.

I'm double vacced (and had to miss my booster on Thursday last week due to a stomach bug which is so annoying), DH just had his booster last Wednesday, DS12 is single vacced.

The waiting to catch it/not catch it is stressing me out.

Metalhead · 07/12/2021 14:30

So DD1s LFT this morning was a clear positive, but the second PCR test she had done yesterday has come back as unreadable again! Has this happened to anyone else? We are assuming she has it and she is obviously staying at home, but I just don’t understand how she could have got two invalid PCRs. Confused

I had one Void result then a positive PCR (and + LFT, before I knew the PCR result) the next day. Not saying they are linked but it can happen. I agree 2 are surprising though! Were they a day apart?

Positive LFT especially where you know there's a case in the house probably does mean she'll go on to test positive. Hope you're all doing OK and get some clarity soon.

Metalhead · 07/12/2021 19:44

HelloMist yes, first PCR was done on Sunday and second one on Monday. I’m wondering if there wasn’t enough virus in her system yet to be picked up by the PCR, although I’m not sure if that makes sense as I always thought they were the more sensitive/accurate tests.

Metalhead · 08/12/2021 15:15

Well, I’m now positive as well on the LFT, so it looks like we will all get it eventually.

Sorry to hear. Is your dh still clear? Are you poorly?

Ds tested positive saturday, as of now other ds and myself are fine, dh has cold symptoms but still testing negative (thinks he has it though).

Same here how you getting on?
Metalhead · 08/12/2021 19:48

DH still had a negative LFT this afternoon and is feeling fine. I’ve got what feels like the mother of all head colds which literally developed overnight, so I would’ve been surprised not to have Covid tbh.

DS16 described his as a hot head. Like his head is super hot and heavy. That part didn’t last long for him though. We’re on day 3 of him and his sister testing positive on lft’s and still waiting for pcr but both symptomatic. This is also the second time we’ve had it in the house in the last 2 months and last time only one caught it. It’s so much waiting I hate it honestly. Waiting for results and waiting for symptoms myself or watching the other kids for symptoms 🙄
ShrillSiren · 09/12/2021 14:18

@Frazzled2207

I had a positive LFT on Tuesday so took a PCR yesterday and am waiting for the results to come through. I'm sure I've got it though as I've got a bit of a cough, a high temperature that comes and goes, and I've just completely lost taste and smell.
DH and my older son are still negative at the moment.

Metalhead · 10/12/2021 13:06

DH also positive now Sad

OP posts:
GypsyWanderer · 10/12/2021 15:49

Is that all of you who have it now? DD tested positive Monday evening along with her brother. Then last night their other brother tested positive. So far it’s just me and DH who haven’t caught it, am hoping we manage to escape it for a second time (DS13 had it in October) but also want it out of the way!

Metalhead · 10/12/2021 18:07

Gypsy yes, we’ve all got it now. So far it’s hit me worst, I seem to be working my way through all the symptoms…

OP posts:
GypsyWanderer · 10/12/2021 18:32

Sorry to read you’re so poorly. Me and DH are double jabbed too and I’m really hoping we don’t catch it but I know it’s not a given so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Look after yourself!

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 10/12/2021 18:34

Two dc had it at different times no one caught it

mamatro · 11/12/2021 21:02

Sorry your all feeling poorly!
I was also wondering what my chances are.. ds positive PCR on Thursday only tested him as his sister had a cough.. she came back negative and him positive! He's been absolutely fine, pale one day and a cough every now and then. I tested Friday and have just had a negative result just come through. Had an absolute killer of a head yesterday and upset stomach so thought maybe I would be positive but nope I'm all good. Also I can't rely on LFTs as I test faint positive on them, have done since the new flow flex ones came out.
Also tested my ds this morning on an LFT out of curiosity to see what the result would be and it was negative... can PCRs be wrong???
