DD2 positive LFT - what are the chances we’ll not all get it?

Yesterday DD2 who’s 6 looked a bit peaky so I took her temperature and it was 38.4C. Took a LFT which was a blazing positive, so the whole family went and got PCR tests this morning. Meanwhile, DD2’s temp is back to normal and she’s feeling right as rain! Whilst we’re waiting for the PCR results, I’m just idly wondering what the chances are of the rest of us (me, DH and 11yo DD1) not catching it? We are supposed to go to Germany for Christmas on the 18th…

If you're double vaccinated you've got a chance. The 11 year old might not be so lucky!

BuffaloHigh · 05/12/2021 16:31

We’re on day 7 of my son’s isolation. My husband caught it off him day 4 but neither I or my other son have got it yet.

I’d be worried in your situation about your daughter testing positive for a while after she’s recovered though

Metalhead · 05/12/2021 16:31

Yes, DH and I are both double-jabbed. It’s ironic really, we always thought if anyone was going to catch it, it’d be DD1 as she goes to a huge secondary school!

6 yr old DD2 positive here too
Rest of us negative on PCR and LFTs so far

I agree I’d be worried about her testing positive for the various travel tests.

polkadotpjs · 05/12/2021 16:35

Both kids have had it a few weeks apart. DH and I stayed negative both times

Midnightstar76 · 05/12/2021 16:55

My daughter was positive and has just finished her isolation. Myself , husband and other daughter all negative on PCR and daily LFT’s have all been negative. Me and husband double vaccinated and daughter secondary age has had one vaccination. So you may be ok OP

Whatdoyawannado · 05/12/2021 16:58

Second school DS tested positive last Saturday, primary school DS positive on Tuesday and DH positive on Friday. Will I be positive tomorrow?! I'm hoping I might have avoided it. Still testing negative so far.

Whatdoyawannado · 05/12/2021 16:59

Both DH and I are double vaccinated. DH second dose was July (AZ) my second dose was beginning of Nov (Pfizer). I timed that right!

NeverRTFT · 05/12/2021 17:29

DD 12 1-jab got it first and was a bit poorly.
Me 40s, 2-jabs but >6 months old caught it 2 days later and was poorly.
DH 40s 3-jabs did not get it.
DS 10 no jabs did not get it - go figure.

HereLiesBetelgeuse · 05/12/2021 17:37

Son had it, no one else caught it. Me and DH double jabbed AZ. Other DC too young for vaccine, didn't catch it

Angel2702 · 05/12/2021 17:41

DD had it in October half term, none of us caught it. But she was able to stay in her room a lot of the time, wear a mask and we had an air purifier on and windows open. More difficult with a six year old as you can’t keep distance when they are so smaller.

Metalhead · 05/12/2021 18:47

Thanks all, sounds like we might get lucky then - fingers crossed!

Re: the travel tests, I hadn’t even thought of that and didn’t realise you could test positive still after you’ve recovered! But looking into it, the pre-departure tests are only for travellers age 12 upwards, so DD2 would not be required to take one before coming back.

We (adults, double vaccinated) both caught it within days of 6yo's positive PCR last month. Other children in the class who had it - some families got it too but not all.

Mooloolabababy · 05/12/2021 19:24

Ds (8) caught it just before October half term, there were 10 cases in his class at the time! Dd, dh and myself all managed to avoid it, we didn't banish him to his room but we kept the windows open for most of the day and wore face masks whilst in the same room as him. Keeping my fingers crossed for you op!

Willyoujustbequiet · 05/12/2021 19:41

We were double jabbed but caught it within 2 days of dc. You're probably in the incubation period unfortunately

Frazzled2207 · 05/12/2021 19:56

Thinking similar thoughts here since ds2 (6) tested positive yesterday. Dh, ds1 and I ok so far.

GypsyWanderer · 05/12/2021 19:58

DS13 had it in October and none of us caught it. Me and DH are double jabbed but his sister, brother and twin are not and didn’t catch it. We didn’t isolate from him either and 3 boys share the same room. You might not catch it.

sanmiguel · 05/12/2021 20:37

We didn't catch off teenage DC (single jab. We're both double jab AZ)

happytoday73 · 05/12/2021 20:40

One child got it, rest of us didn't... Despite not keeping him separate.. In fact I sat next to them for 6 hours day prior to positive test while he sneezed continually

HavfrueDenizKisi · 05/12/2021 20:43

Well DD13 got it from school. I'm double vaccinated and got it. DH, who slept next to me for 3 days while I had some symptoms (not the Covid three) didn't get it (double vaccinated) and DD10 didn't get it at all. So the answer is: who knows??

Getbehindme · 05/12/2021 20:46

To be honest, it's this part that's driving me the most crackers at the moment. DD1 positive on Thurs, DD2 positive tonight. Both parents are still negative and we share care 50/50 so I'm rather hoping we have slightly better odds.

My tummy isn't right though, but not sure if that's the anxiety.

Rosemaryandlemon · 05/12/2021 20:47

Ds10 got it. Very mild symptoms. No one else in the house got it. Me and DH double jabbed. Younger siblings aren’t and didn’t get it

BusySittingDown · 05/12/2021 20:53

My DD2 had it beginning of October. None of the rest of the household got it (me, DH and DD1). DH and I are double vaccinated and DD1 isn't. DDs are also very close and spend lots of time together so I really expected DD1 to get it but it was fine.

However, we did isolate DD2 to her room as soon as she got the positive LFT. She stayed in her room on her own and we took her meals to her door. It was heartbreaking but we had had plans for half term, which we might not have been able to do had we all got covid and had to isolate.

WhatIsThisPlease · 05/12/2021 21:25

My DD15 had it a couple of weeks ago. DS17 is jabbed once and DP and I double jabbed. We didn't 'stay away' from her (in fact DS tried his best to catch it so he could have 10 days off school) and none of us caught it.

Metalhead · 06/12/2021 07:44

Quick update: PCR for DD2 was positive, me & DH negative and DD1 was unreadable. She’s now had a very faint positive LFT this morning, so off we trot for another PCR…
