NHS app - DH told to isolate but I’ve not been told to?

MrsCremuel · 01/12/2021 16:39

DH got pinged today and told to isolate for eight days.

I didn’t get pinged or notified but opened up my app to check and was told that I have been in close contact with someone who has Covid. I wasn’t told to isolate because I’m fully vaccinated but I’ve been advised to get a PCR test. I’m confused as to why we’ve both been told two different things? On my app it told me that the contact was on the 28th of November but DH wasn’t told when his contact was.

Could it just be that we’ve had different contacts and I’m just assuming it was the same day? We were together all day on the 28th though.

As long as he is double vaxxed he does not have to isolate regardless of what the app says. In fact he doesn’t need to isolate anyway unless informed by test and trace. Unless he was not vaccinated in Uk or, as others have said, it is Omicron.

MrsCremuel · 01/12/2021 18:25

We feel morally obliged to isolate even though it’s just the app though

From nhs:

NHS Test and Trace and the NHS COVID-19 app will check whether you need to self-isolate because you’ve been in contact with someone with COVID-19.

You do not need to self-isolate if any of the following apply:

  • you're fully vaccinated – this means 14 days have passed since your final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine given by the NHS
  • you're under 18 years, 6 months old
  • you're taking part or have taken part in a COVID-19 vaccine trial
  • you're not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons

However, if you’ve been in contact with someone who may have the Omicron variant of COVID-19, this does not apply and you’ll still need to self-isolate. NHS Test and Trace will contact you if this is the case.

@Maddockhall

I'm amazed anyone is still using that app 🤷🏼‍♀️
Same the it’s not fit for purpose, he doesn’t need to isolate if double jabbed . Yes you have to isolate if been in contact with someone who’s had the new variant but I’m guessing that’s unlikely .
Watapalava · 01/12/2021 18:43

Well if you isolate you wont get paid and it may not be authorised leave given you don't have to isolate at all. To be honest if one of my colleagues said this id say they were taking the piss and just wanted to be off work!

MrsCremuel · 01/12/2021 19:05

@dementedpixie and yet he still has this 🤷‍♀️

@Watapalava he can wfh

I'm not. I went to a bar last summer and had to download their app to get served. It said I didn't have enough memory so would delete two lesser used apps. It deleted WhatsApp Shock and the Covid app Grin. Only one got re-installed Wink

He is using an outdated version of the app if he deletes it and reinstalls it it will update to the newer version and it will just say he has been near someone and may need to get a PCR test. He does not need to isolate.

MadeForThis · 01/12/2021 19:21

Tell him to update the app

MrsCremuel · 01/12/2021 19:22

Updated and it still says the same! Is there a way it might know if the person he’s been near has had omicron?!

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 01/12/2021 19:23

Did he try deleting and reinstalling the app as others suggested? He may have an older version of the app

Iggly · 01/12/2021 19:24

I’m sure he would get a call if it was omicron.

I’ve been pinged before but there is no legal obligation to isolate. I worked out that I must have been pinged from a train journey as there were no covid cases reported via work, I had no call from T&T. So I wasn’t too worried - as it was, I ended up wfh home anyway.

A friend of mine gets pinged regularly!

No it won't. All the person inputs is their positive result
CrumbsThatsQuick · 01/12/2021 19:24

there is absolutely no moral need for him to isolate.

if he wants to, go ahead, but it is an active choice based on outdated rules

CrumbsThatsQuick · 01/12/2021 19:26

I dont think an update will change a message retroactively

Branster · 01/12/2021 19:31

Exactly!

Delete the app. I'm amazed anyone used it to start with, but now?! Pointless.

MrsCremuel · 01/12/2021 19:46

To all those who are amazed we are still using it, we aren’t. It has remained in our phones but we haven’t been checking in etc. We just forgot about it.

It will I had the exact same message I realised my app hadn’t been updated, when I updated it I got the new message saying when exposure was and that I don’t need to isolate but can get PCR and asked for vaccination status.
Angel2702 · 01/12/2021 20:02

Has he actually deleted the app completely and reinstalled it? That’s what I had to do to get it to update the message to reflect current guidelines.
MrsCremuel · 01/12/2021 20:07

@Angel2702 I’ll ask him when bedtime is finished, probably not

I work for t&t and we get people come through to us who have covid19 app notification as the person they've had contact with.

If he's double vaccinated he really doesn't need to isolate.

thewhatsit · 01/12/2021 20:45

You’re not going to be called by T&T because of the app though, they don’t have your details.

Not only is the app not legally binding, and never was, but he’s double vaccinated so even if it were an actual T&T call they’d say he doesn’t need to as vaccinated but advised to take a test etc. I don’t really understand the morally obliged bit of it. It’s an error.

You don’t need to worry about it being the new variant because of the app. The app really isn’t that clever Hmm.

MrsCremuel · 01/12/2021 20:46

@Angel2702 it worked!

Thank you everyone! So bloody relieved.
