Help - why does Spain say children have to be double vaxed to enter when they are unable to be?

After help - any travel consultants/anyone who knows the answer?

Booked holiday and adults are fully vaxed and can enter. Children from 12 - 17 have the one vaccine that is only currently available in UK. Spain say they don't count as double vaxed since only had one vax but children unable to have 2 doses! Round in circles/catch 22.

Does this mean only travellers that are adults or have children under 12 can currently enter Spain?

@luinagreine

Just punishment for Brexit really 😂

I thought it was a policy for all non EU countries not just specifically for the UK? It seems odd that they would go out of their way to make rules just to 'punish' Brits for Brexit?

I think it is more about managing the pandemic than about Brexit. They had a rough time in Spain as well.

Dd had her first dose in October, so should be due the next one in January now they are planning to offer 12-15 a second dose after 12 weeks. Fingers crossed for the planned school trip to France which I think is in June.

[quote BunsyGirl]@Melassa This suggests that rules for entry to Spain are different for non-EU citizens.

It must just be Italy and France then! I know we had it bad here so maybe they’re more strict.

I find it odd that you think it's odd tbh. Why on earth would Spain shape its policies around the peculiar decision making of the UK government?Confused

Correct but the fact remains that within the EU there is no such nonsense.

I don’t think it’s deliberate punishment but no reason to think that we should get special treatment other than the fact the the Spanish are very keen on us holidaying with them. Or I thought they were.

By the summer it should be ok as teens should have had two by then.

No one is asking them to. They don't give the option of a negative test prior to entry as some countries do so not other options at all. A person with covid that has been double vaxed can sail in but a negative single vaxed individual cannot enter. Some other countries at least offer the option of a negative test prior to entry and then test again when in the country - that's actually much safer for the Spanish.

We are going to visit our relatives after the second vax now so postponed. I do have empathy though for the other families like us who have had plans to visit family taken away again.

Their country their rules. The world does not resolve around some "right" for British teens to holiday in Spain Hmm

Cyrilgoggin · 02/12/2021 14:38

If you are travelling to Spain on a flight from the UK you have to be double vaccinated. It doesn't matter whether you have an EU passport or a British passport.

poshme · 02/12/2021 14:41

@AliceA2021 at the moment you can't prove vax status for under 16s at all- so until that's sorted i wouldn't be certain of anything.
