New booster programme

Imfedupwithallofthis · 29/11/2021 15:21

Booster will now available for all adults over 18, 'No sooner than 3 months from 2nd vaccine'.
Immunosuppressed should get 4th dose 3 months after 3rd dose, not 6 months.

I wonder how they will deal with this after closing down all of those vaccination centres. I'm quite concerned the wait will still end up being 6 ish months anyway, due to lack of appointments.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 29/11/2021 16:30

When will the booking website be updated does anyone know? I've got mine booked for mid-Dec, but I would like to bring it forward. I've currently got it booked for the first available date which is bang on 6 months which happens to be the morning of my planned flight (which may or may not actually happen, but on the off chance it does I'd rather I had my jab before my trip!)

Tealightsandd · 29/11/2021 16:35

Yeah they really need to increase availability and accessible appointments.

Hopefully more pop ups can pop up.

The government hasn’t accepted the recommendation so definitely won’t be before then.

Keep checking local social media, news sites, and CCG info. There might be a walk in or pop up at some point.

From what I can tell locally a load of extra ones have popped up very recently.

Well my husband went to a open vaccine booster at the weekend and after a hour of waiting since me at the front of the que made a bit of noise then they decided to come out and tell people there was none left. People were made to wait outside which is better in some ways of the que was moving but was very cold Sunday morning. They admitted they could get more but had noway to track the delivery of give a approx time of them getting there.

RachC2021 · 29/11/2021 16:53

The JCVI guidance published today has been accepted.

I am also wondering if the very vulnerable, as in group 1 and 2 and maybe 3 will be prioritised for their 4th before the rest of us get our 3rd? Tbh, the fact they've moved it up like this is freaking me out. I was fairly calm about this new variant (for me anyway) but this really feels bad now.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/11/2021 17:00

I'm 31 and won't be racing to get the booster. There's others who need it more. I only had my second jab in September!

It's literally just a precautionary measure. No need to stress.

"I am also wondering if the very vulnerable, as in group 1 and 2 and maybe 3 will be prioritised for their 4th before the rest of us get our 3rd?"

Does it make a difference?

The third primary dose offered to immunocompromised is equivalent to second dose for everyone else.

So the 4th dose is their booster, equivalent to third dose for everyone else. So are in exactly the same position, not jumping any queues.

However, I don't think this will necessarily be a problem. My DH got his 3rd primary dose 3 weeks ago, won't be due again until just over 2 months time.

Oh to add, yesterday when I looked thinking about changing the date, Xmas day was on offer at one vax centre Shock

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 29/11/2021 17:20

Well, if 3 for them is the equivalent of 2 for us, then sure. But they have said that the protection starts waning after 5 months and I've not once seen that it does earlier for the immunocompromised.

Some people might have to wait much longer than 6 months if they're going to squeeze in the 4th for some groups first. Everyone in their 40s must be coming up for theirs now but may then need to wait til these groups have had another, depending on how they choose to do this.
That makes me worried for my asthmatic husband who was pushed off the list, much to the disbelief of Asthma UK.

I wouldn't even hesitate if that's all that was on offer tbh! Would others?
WarriorN · 29/11/2021 17:21

There were others available, luckily!

You’re misunderstanding what the fourth dose is.

It’s not for group 1, 2, 3 or 4. It’s for a very small number of people within those groups. Not all of them. I think it’s about half a million people. The few people needing a fourth dose (for their booster) aren’t going to affect everyone else’s booster.

Icewiththat · 29/11/2021 17:25

Does anyone know if the nhs booking site has been updated to allow bookings 3 months post 2nd dose? I’m 40 and had last dose at the end of July so
Would think I’m eligible now…

LaurieFairyCake · 29/11/2021 17:26

Well they told the news agencies at 2pm and they told the world

But they still haven't updated the booking system - it STILL says 5 months Grin

Utter shit show - there were 3000 people ahead of me in the queue when they announced it but when you got through you still couldn't book

And 3 hours later you still can't

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 29/11/2021 17:27

I thought group 1 and 2 (and maybe 3) were the very vulnerable, as is very elderly and very ill. I thought all of those would be on the list for a 4th. That makes more sense then.
.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 29/11/2021 17:28

I think it said something about the NHS deciding how this will all work within days.

why not go on it and see? Ff it lets you book then it will have updated and if not then it won't have.
Bobholll · 29/11/2021 17:28

We’ve got 4 walk in centres here within about 15 minutes of each other. They are begging people to come get boosted..

Hopefully everywhere else will see similar over the next couple months. & those concerned it’ll still be a 6 month wait, well presumably you aren’t vulnerable and also, you’ll still have good protection. So nothing to actually worry about.

No. Well yes but the immunocompromised are a group on their own, get a primary 3rd dose and then a 4th jab (booster) I'm group 4 but get 4 jabs

Some of us are but were kicked off the list when they found they were behind schedule.
