Anyone else wondering whether to cancel a December holiday?

Aaaggh! We haven’t been away for two years and are due to fly to Mexico on 10th, coming back on 23rd but would now have to self isolate until pcr results were back which means in all likelihood it would mean we couldn’t see family at Christmas. I don’t know what to do.

Likelihood of things getting worse in the next four weeks also seems quite high to me Sad

@BlackLambAndGreyFalcon

Yes you can *@Dauphinois*. The test can be taken any time from arrival up until day 2. Our plan IF we do end up going abroad is to do our tests in person at the airport when we return, although we probably won't pay the £££ for the rapid turn around processing.
Thank you. I think the plan is that our family members will fly into Heathrow and go straight for rapid PCR's at the airport, then head to ours. Presumably they're allowed to isolate at our house? Hopefully we'll get the results by the time they've slept off their jetlag so it shouldn't mess things up too much.

@Dauphinois yes they can isolate at your house. They will need to book the PCR tests before flying.

@Lockdowninfinity

I find it so baffling when European countries close borders after horse bolted. It didn’t work for the previous variants - why would it work for this one?Such a crude method to control a pandemic. Hence why we haven’t got a handle on this yetConfused
Agree!

@cloudtree did you have to pay the difference? We are due to fly to Egypt on the 10th with TUI but due to it being technically in Africa it seems a huge risk.

They let us do a free change with an extra 10%. So our holiday was about £5k and they let us book anything up to £5500 without paying the difference.

If we cancelled entirely though we lost the lot.
