Aaaggh! We haven’t been away for two years and are due to fly to Mexico on 10th, coming back on 23rd but would now have to self isolate until pcr results were back which means in all likelihood it would mean we couldn’t see family at Christmas. I don’t know what to do.

Likelihood of things getting worse in the next four weeks also seems quite high to me Sad

Made worse by the fact that Covid is ripping through the school at the moment. It’s fairly unlikely one of them won’t take it with them.

EileenGC · 27/11/2021 23:22

Oh I see, I assumed they were secondary so over 12. My apologies.

That does sound in line with the Austrian regulations though. I hope you do get some clarity soon about what’s happening!

AntiMaskersAreTwats · 27/11/2021 23:23

Thanks! I just have my fingers crossed that Austria reopens with tighter travel restrictions

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/11/2021 23:24

Just had a look at prices of these bastards for rapid tests - will add £850 to our holiday. If we just do the £43 ones, which might take ages, then we don't get my family Christmas, the panto or to have a party for New Year in our own home.

Wonder how much of that £850 would end up in the pocket of a Tory's mates?

WinnerofDecember · 27/11/2021 23:39

We are all booked up to see family too.

Does anyone know how much these tests are please? And which ages need to have them?

VioletRose91 · 27/11/2021 23:44

Does anyone know if we can get the money back for our day 2 lateral flow tests? I’m due to go away and of course bought them and now it’s all changed 😭

EileenGC · 27/11/2021 23:48

I've previously paid £40 per PCR with NWP. Who knows if the price will change soon.

I thought everybody knew this but clearly not - for those yet to go away: do NOT book your tests until you're sure you're coming back from wherever you're going to.

Book the tests a couple of days before at the earliest (unless you're in the middle of nowhere without internet connection). They will post them after you order them and should arrive at your home just as you get back too.

Don't waste money on buying something that you might not need in 4 weeks' time.

It's not even covid, one of you could break a leg or get horrible D&V and the trip could be cancelled last minute. Don't buy unnecessary stuff until you know you'll need it.

We come back from holiday the 9th December and with randox the pcr is £55 per person with results with 24 hours guarantee. We’ve booked that.
MoonlightMedicine · 27/11/2021 23:55

We were going to Poland early December. But we all have covid right now, so chances are we will show up as positive on day 2 PCR's. We've decided not to go, kids will be gutted but it just isn't worth it.

notangelinajolie · 28/11/2021 00:01

We are booked to stay in a cottage in Wales with family coming from all over the UK. Me and DH, our DDs, elderly FIL and my DB. Classed as 5 households. Our holiday starts from Christmas Eve for 4 nights. I don't want to go anymore. We do have insurance that covers us for a refund if government announces lockdown or if one of us gets Covid within 14 days of travel. It's all paid for and I can't cancel.

Katie517 · 28/11/2021 00:04

No one checks if you do your day 2 test so no one will be able to enforce isolation, tests are from a private company all they care about is selling them not you actually doing them.,

Kjcf · 28/11/2021 00:05

Well basically children over 12 are being shut out of travelling to Europe. Spain has joined many other countries stating all travellers have to be vaccinated. But as it stands one vaccine only in the U.K. doesn’t make teens vaccinated!

VioletRose91 · 28/11/2021 00:20

I wonder if TUI will change my holiday.. I’m going to have to call them in the morning I’m terrified the country I’m travelling to will go onto red list whilst we are abroad 😞

fournonblondes · 28/11/2021 00:31

I would go because you still can. I would do the PCR test with same day results. I personally would rather not have Christmas and a have a sunny holiday after two years. Life here in winter is hard and doom and gloom.

I don’t think TUI will change the holiday proactively unless it’s red list. My concern is things worsening whilst we are away and Mexico going red list. They’re not exactly hot on covid measures (hence booking to go there in the first place since ds is in that 12-15 bracket where he isn’t counted as fully vaccinated because he can only get one jab)

Trying to find the cheapest, and quickest, day 2 PCR test. Any recommendations? Randox delivers your PCR test in 4-6 days of booking so if you are on a relatively short trip abroad you have to book before you go. Still not cheap despite the long delivery time.

Remmy123 · 28/11/2021 08:19

Do the pcr the day you are back on the 23rd.

Btw no one even checks up to see if these have been done!!

Remmy123 · 28/11/2021 08:19

C-19 cheapest I found

Theredjellybean · 28/11/2021 08:23

I've just booked day 2 return pcr tests at drive through at Heathrow for £39.59 with results in 12 hrs.. We ger back from holiday on 23 Rd and want to spend Christmas with family

Yes, I hope they can have a second vaccine by summer or there will be hell to pay. The travel industry is going to suffer anyway, I'd like to book something in January for later in the year, but not when I don't know if my single vaccinated 12 year old will be able to go or have a second jab before then.
WakeUpLockie · 28/11/2021 08:29

Yes we cancelled Copenhagen last night. I’m pregnant so extra worry. Plus just seems flippant, we were just going for fun not to see family etc.

I'm hoping for the opposite - although I don't hold our much hope now! Our trip (originally booked for April 2020) has been rearranged four times already and it will be absolutely gutting to have to do so again. If we have to SI in the UK on our return that's not an issue - but I'm sure there'll probably be more restrictions announced which make will it impossible.

Where have you see this about Spain please?
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/11/2021 08:37

@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing

We’re due to go away within the U.K., so will just see if we’re able to i guess
We’re going away in the UK next Friday. I’ll be gutted if anything changes between now and then and we can’t go.

I think it’ll be UK holidays for us for the foreseeable future as I can’t face the stress of going abroad any more.

maddy68 · 28/11/2021 08:39

You can have a rapid 3 hr test at the airport so no isolation required
