I just read about the new rule, self isolation for incoming travellers until PCR results post day 2. But when does this start? Surely not straightaway?
I’m in the Eurostar, due to arrive in London in 2h…

Just checked the government website and the travel information hasn't been updated since the PM's press conference. I anyone finds an update, please post a link!

EasterIssland · 27/11/2021 19:43

@gemandjule

Anyone know what happens if your only staying in the U.K. for 2 days. I’m due to fly into Edinburgh from Republic of Ireland on Friday and fly back in Sunday. Does this mean I can’t go? What’s the turnaround time for PCR. Can I book a PCR for when I arrive and pay for a private test with a 6 hour turnaround time? Ahhhh
This is so far England , tho i expect Scotland to follow.
Happymchappy · 27/11/2021 19:48

Fergus Walsh (BBC medical editor) tweeted about an hour ago saying that it was expected to come into effect next week but that govt guidelines as to which day have not yet been published.

Cascascascas · 27/11/2021 19:51

@LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee

It’s from the new conference

UmbilicusProfundus · 27/11/2021 19:51

Following with (vested) interest Confused

Frazzled2207 · 27/11/2021 20:15

They’ll have to get the legislation through parliament. Almost impossible before Monday and it won’t be a given that it will pass. Likely though as Labour will not oppose

JoanOgden · 27/11/2021 20:17

I don't think they will have a vote before it comes into force, will they? The usual pattern has been to lay emergency regs that come into force the next day, with a retrospective (Hmm) vote later.

Holzawolza · 27/11/2021 20:50

Due back from Spain on the 6th, think we are going to have to book PCR tests…

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 27/11/2021 20:58

@LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee

You must really like your sister!!

LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee · 27/11/2021 21:02

Well, no check at St Pancras, they didn’t even check the Passenger Location Form, no announcement or anything either.

@NovemberNovemberDarkNights I know! She needed some sisterly support and she is worth it :)

It would be really helpful to know asap - I'm due to come back to the UK on Tuesday, but have my booster jab booked for Wednesday morning. If I'm going to have to miss it, because of waiting for a PCR, the earlier I can cancel the better..

Tubsen · 27/11/2021 23:05

Papers are just saying from next week so you will be ok OP. They will probably announce it Monday as they have to do stuff in a certain order or Sir Lindsay will tick Boris off

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 27/11/2021 23:19

Wonder what will happen with the recently recovered? Will they have to do a PCR - doesn’t it show positive within a certain number of days?

Whammyyammy · 27/11/2021 23:25

@Angrymum22

Hopefully you are not carrying the new variant!
Really?
imnotacelebritygetmeoutofhere · 27/11/2021 23:29

I hope this helps, from gov.uk
(TLDR travel testing from next week, African countries on red list from 4am Sunday)

Targeted measures will be introduced from next week as a precaution to slow down the spread of the variant while we gather more information. These are:
• All international arrivals must take a Day 2 PCR test and self-isolate until they receive a negative result.
• All contacts of suspected Omicron cases must self-isolate, regardless of their vaccination status. They will be contacted by NHS Test and Trace.
• Face coverings will be made compulsory in shops and on public transport from next week. All hospitality settings will be exempt.

From 04:00 Sunday 28 November South Africa, Botswana, Lesostho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe and Namibi, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, and Angola will be added to the UK’s travel red list.

@LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee

Glad you got through ok

Your suster is lucky to have you 😇

I'd be doing LFT tomorrow (today)

egglette · 28/11/2021 08:05

For anyone else heading back soon it looks like it starts from 4am on Tuesday. I just tried to do our passenger locator forms and there’s a message to carry on if you’re travelling before then, but hold off for now if after.

Pootle40 · 28/11/2021 08:06

@Angrymum22

Hopefully you are not carrying the new variant!
Wtf ?!

It's here already and who cares

Capferret · 28/11/2021 08:25

@LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee. I think your passenger locator form is linked to your passport so they can check from that if everything is in order.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 28/11/2021 08:49

Phew. Now to hope my flight isn't delayed by a few hours…

RumHoney · 28/11/2021 08:52

Thanks for the update - looks like we'll be fine with the tests we already gave
