How long did you lose taste and smell for?

Just that really. DH (who was completely asymptomatic) and I have both lost taste and smell. If you had this, how long before it returned?

My friend said it was a few months

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 27/11/2021 14:22

About 2 weeks or so. Sense of smell is still occasionally iffy 10 months later.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 27/11/2021 14:25

I know someone that hasnt got hers back and it's been 6 months since she had covid. She absolutely hates food now she can't taste if its under / over seasoned, she hates cooking and it often gets her down when she cooks lovely meals and cant taste them

I had covid early August. Taste and smell very gradually started to come back 2 weeks later

Although its back, almost 4 months later some things now taste and smell weird

redferrari · 27/11/2021 15:33

Around 11 months now only about 50% ok and the some are not quite the same.

PearandHoney · 27/11/2021 15:40

About a week. I did the same as a PP and smelt a lot of different things like scented candles etc. Also ate foods with either a lot of citrus or vinegary flavours (think balsamic vinegar on salads etc) as they were the only things I could detect. No idea if that helps but made me feel better.

I have absolutely no issues with taste/smell now, about a month on from first testing positive.

Motherdare · 27/11/2021 15:46

About a week for me…not sure as didn’t check my sense of smell until a few days in. It was fairly short-lived though.

Letsplough · 27/11/2021 16:07

About 4 weeks

mowglika · 27/11/2021 16:12

I think I had Covid early on, my DH and I both lost sense of smell and taste for about a month. And Until recently I would still get a strong smell of cigarettes randomly but that seems to have gone now thankfully

boredsolicitor · 27/11/2021 16:24

A couple of days for me

thirstyformore · 27/11/2021 16:31

I lost it for about a week. DH still can't taste and smell properly 10 months later.

PurpleDaisies · 27/11/2021 16:33

A week or two for both dh and I

KaleKitchen · 27/11/2021 18:14

Thanks everyone for your replies. Fingers crossed it's weeks, not months, for us.

About a month for me and 3 months post Covid it's not the same as it used to be, my sense of smell especially is weakened.

whereisthekey · 27/11/2021 18:30

2 days

Strangevipers · 27/11/2021 18:30

2 weeks

Husband a month

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/11/2021 18:37

3 weeks. Nice smells like almond oil shower gel and shea butter soap came back first. Bad smells like farts came back last.

Bean888 · 27/11/2021 21:05

I’m currently on day 10 of no taste or smell and it’s driving me crazy. Those who have had it return, did you find it came back gradually over a few weeks (getting stronger each day) or just come back suddenly?

Babymamamama · 27/11/2021 21:08

About three weeks. But I only lost smell not taste. I became obsessed with sniffing essential oils. It was weird as I could feel the sensation of them on my nostrils but with no discernible odour.

SoSoTiredToday · 27/11/2021 21:54

3 months

TheGriffle · 27/11/2021 22:10

I’m around 8 weeks in. My taste has come back about 75%, my smell about 20%.

I spent 3 weeks smelling cigarette smoke so strongly that it was like sitting in the smoking room at my old work place. That really got me down as it was 24/7 but has gradually eased off.

I hate not being able to smell properly. You don’t realise how much you rely on it.

Twolostsoulsswimminginafishbow · 27/11/2021 22:15

Six weeks and still absolutely nothing.

ShellieEllie · 27/11/2021 23:00

Lost both smell and taste for about 6 weeks before they came back then WHAM 6 weeks later foods started smelling and tasting off. Can't eat chicken, beef, eggs, onions, peanuts, hazelnuts, baked beans, crisps... The list is growing by the day 😢 The taste/smell of these is horrific, nothing like I've ever experienced before. I name it the taste/smell of Covid. I can only describe it as being like rotting meat, rotting fish, sewage & ammonia all rolled into one. Coffee and chocolate are now starting to smell/taste off and I fear they are on their way to being things I can no longer eat.

Lol me too! Over a year since I had it and losing these senses is my biggest worry I'm getting covid again.

Morning breath, poop/farts, BO - last smells to return (and I do think they all smell different now) - maybe because we aren't actively sniffing them? Grin
