If your child tested positive, how long before you did?

Assuming you were doing daily LFTs, what day of isolation did you get a positive?

Just asking as I have a positive child and curious as to when my LFT is most likely to be positive and when I can start to hope for the best..!

My asymptomatic 5 year old tested positive on Thursday so no idea how long she’d actually had it. Rest of us remain negative for now.

siblingrevelryagain · 24/11/2021 21:49

All three children had it v recently (last month) and I didn’t get it. I’m Double jabbed (AZ), goingfor booster tomorrow

They’re 14, 13 and 10, so not babies but we only have a small house, and we weren’t washing door knobs or anything, we still had to Co-exist

FiveGoMadInDorset · 24/11/2021 21:50

I didn’t, neither did his sibling

Wellbythebloodyhell · 24/11/2021 21:51

I didn't , no one in the household did either (unvaccinated too)

Vallmo47 · 24/11/2021 21:53

One day for me, other two didn’t catch it at all. It really is completely random.

Blupblup · 24/11/2021 21:53

I asked a similar question last week about a partner! In our case, when my dc had it, no one caught it off them. But when my dh got it, I tested positive 3 days after he did.

Haybo26 · 24/11/2021 21:53

Family of 5, son had it but no one else did.

Delatron · 24/11/2021 21:54

11 year old tested positive last Thursday completely asymptomatic (apart from a random vomit the Saturday before which I assumed was a tummy bug). We’re all still negative and I’m also wondering when I can breathe a sigh off relief.

I did feel ‘off’ for a few days and lacking in energy. Wondering if I was exposed then the vaccine kicked in and antibodies fought it off? No social distancing/lots of hugs and spending time in the same room.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 24/11/2021 21:54

I didn't catch it (fully vaccinated with AZ), whilst both kids and DH had it. I tried to wear a mask around the house (none of the others did) and the house was well ventilated (it was summer).

lollipopsandrainbows · 24/11/2021 21:55

Asymptomatic 13yo tested positive on the Sunday, again no idea how long she had it. Younger sister and I became really unwell on the Tuesday but lateral flow negative. Very light positive on the Wednesday followed by positive PCR on the Thursday.

Claymorekick · 24/11/2021 21:56

12 days here but DH tested positive after 5 days so I was 7 days after DH so I assume I caught it from him rather than DC.

DC1 never caught it despite living in a house for 3 weeks with at least one of us in the isolation period. Weird!

Smartiepants79 · 24/11/2021 21:56

Never. None of the rest of the family caught it. We did not isolate her from the rest of the family.

Delatron · 24/11/2021 21:57

My theory (and I guess this matches with super spreader theory) is that some people spread it about lots. But there are people who are the opposite of a super spreader? So you can be in very close contact and not get it? Maybe they don’t shed much virus? Obviously the vaccines help too. So a combination. I think asymptomatic people spread it a bit less too.

Though I do remember in lockdown one stories where one person in a household would get it and nobody else did.

Hmmph · 24/11/2021 22:01

Thanks all. Sounds fairly hopeful! It’s the unvaccinated as too young child who has it - first had faint LFT on Sunday and had had, at most, extremely mild symptoms (might be imaginary). Rest of us are vaccinated* and testing negative, so on day 4- long way to go still!

Although teen has only had one and we are very almost at the 6 months from second dose!

Fingers crossed...

Asymptomatic DD tested positive last month. No one else in house tested positive.

DS got a temp Thursday and positive LFT, confirmed with PCR on Friday. All other LFTs negative.

I started symptoms later the same day, with PCR positive Saturday. DH symptoms started Saturday, confirmed with PCR Sunday.

I'm triple vaccinated, husband double. Both unwell but coping.

Exhausteddog · 24/11/2021 22:05

DS tested positive 2 weeks ago. He had a blocked nose for a few days but not really a cold - no sore throat, sneezing, coughing, temp, headache etc.
He didn't really isolate within the house although we tried to keep our distance (no touching/hugging etc) we did regular LFTs and had 2 PCR tests each, last on day 9 and no one else has so far got it.

boringaccountant · 24/11/2021 22:07

Daughter did a positive lateral flow test on the Thursday morning. Mine was negative on Thursday and Friday. Did a PCR Saturday. LFT negative on Saturday and Sunday. Positive PCR result came back on the Sunday. Still negative on the lateral flows on Monday, had a positive test on those on the Tuesday, four days after testing positive via PCR.

CornishYarg · 24/11/2021 22:09

LFT was negative on Day 5 after DS tested positive. But I had mild cold type symptoms so took a PCR and it was positive.

sunshinel · 24/11/2021 22:09

DH tested positive followed by me 4 days later. DC negative PCR on last day of DH isolation but DD tested positive on LFT 2 days later (confirmed by PCR) . My isolation ends tomorrow, DD in one week, DS still negative on LFT and no symptoms, I'm triple vaccinated, felt rough but think it could have been worse, really hoping DS avoids it now. Thought we would have all got it at the same time!

Nyancat · 24/11/2021 22:12

1 week after DC1 for me, a further week for DC2 and DH. It felt like a very long time!! Both of us double vacc'd, DC unvacc'd as too young

lilyfire · 24/11/2021 22:15

5 days for me and another 5 days for DH who I think got it from me. Both double vaccinated. DS1 escaped it as he’s great at isolating from the rest of the family!

LibrariesGiveUsPower45321 · 24/11/2021 22:15

Day 10 here and still negative.

martim · 24/11/2021 22:16

DS tested positive last Monday on routine LFT, no symptoms. DH and I have been testing daily and all our LFTs have been negative, I developed a cough yesterday morning and PCR came back positive, DH started coughing last night, waiting for his PCR results but his cough is identical to mine so expecting another positive.
So 8/9 days in our house.

BigRedDuck · 24/11/2021 22:16

DS(5) tested positive on a LFT on Monday and I tested positive this morning.
DD8 and DH remain negative.

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 24/11/2021 22:50

Never did.

Ds was the only one ( of 4) who got it.
