To catch Covid? I don't want to obviously, but it just feels inevitable, maybe more so now than before.
I'm in a patient facing healthcare role. I haven't worked with someone knowingly infectious for over a year and I wear PPE, but people at work have caught it but I've been lucky so far.
DH didn't go out much last year as he was WFH but is now something, going to football matches etc.
DC's are 10 and 12. Back in school, obviously. There have been quite a few cases at older DC's school, sine of how good friends have tested positive recently. I'm not aware of the same happening at younger DC's school.
Three local friend friends have tested positive in the last week.
Me DH and older DC have had the vaccine (me + booster, DH booster next week, DC just the one).

Right now I feel like we're being circled by vipers!

I'm not afraid of it, I think if we do catch it we'll be fine. But it's the not knowing that's drinking me nuts. We're not reckless, but life dies feel like it's gone back to normal-ish, with all the social contact that that involves.
Or maybe we'll be lucky and Covid will never darken our door. Hopefully Confused

(Please excuse the typos, DH as been socialising, not something!)

No because we’re double vaxxed and boosted, wear masks in indoor public’s places, keep distance etc., so not concerned.

Feel a lot easier since a friend with worse health than mine contracted about a month ago. Sore throat and tired for a week or so but right as rain now. Double vaxxed.

Marshy86 · 23/11/2021 20:30

I've felt the same and had a positive test result today, double vaccinated and currently just presenting as a cold and sore throat. The only reason we suspected covid was because husbands colleague tested positive and we had both been feeling congested so decided to get tested.

Plump82 · 23/11/2021 20:32

You've maybe had it with no symptoms?

ZACHSHAT · 23/11/2021 20:33

My kids are primary school aged and both have had positive cases in their classes. I reckon we've had contact with it by now.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 23/11/2021 20:33

Yes. I do. Was a close contact of a friend who developed covid last week. 99% of my friends have had covid now.

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/11/2021 20:33

Still not got me yet, residents have had covid, even though double jabbed. Loads of staff have had it, only 3 of us that haven't. Still wear ppe at work, also I still wear a mask when going into shops. Not been to a pub or eaten out for many years. Got my booster and flu jab next month. Test twice a week as well as pcr test once a week.

BigRedDuck · 23/11/2021 20:35

I was... Until yesterday morning when DS, his three teachers and most his classmates tested positive on lateral flows. 😭 DD is already coughing. Hopeful we can get it out of the way before Christmas.

greyhairgoaway · 23/11/2021 20:35

@Plump82

You've maybe had it with no symptoms?
I had an antibody test last year that was negative. But that was quite a long time ago!

Plump82 · 23/11/2021 20:38

@greyhairgoaway ah ok. I keep thinking that's what's maybe happened with me. But then I actually don't know many people who have had it.

XenoBitch · 23/11/2021 20:43

I did. I was adamant I was going to get it and drop dead in the early days. During lockdown, I went to shops daily to get out, and didn't ever wear a mask (am exempt). I did have some weird gastro symptoms that could have been something and nothing. I haven't ever tested, so who knows. If I could afford an antibody test thing, I would get one (aren't they £40-50?).
Now, I am just fed up generally. If i get it, I get it. Not much I can do about that tbh, so I see it as a waste of energy getting worried about it.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 23/11/2021 20:45

The way it’s looking, I am already resigned to getting it again!

Oh no, I hope everyone is ok. I think my older DC is the one who's most likely to be exposed, but he's had his (first and at the moment) only vaccination so that puts him in a much better position to swerve it, I hope.

I think it's actually better once you've had it (as long as it's a mild infection). DH and the DC got Covid in the summer (DH and I were double vaxed a month before), it was a pain at the time because we had to postpone our holiday but the rest of the summer was great because we felt invincible.

CouldThisReallyBe · 23/11/2021 20:51

Yes I think it's only a matter of time. I've just had it. Double vaxxed, I was WFH through 2020 and most of 2021, always wear a mask in shops and public transport. Caught it on the tube (undoubtedly) on a Saturday night out. Most people weren't wearing masks. I spent a week in bed with what felt mostly like a bad head cold and fatigue. First week out of isolation I didn't feel sick but didn't feel 100% well. This week I feel fine.

Idontlikeprosecco · 23/11/2021 20:54

The more time goes on and the more cases we've been close contact of but have dodged, the more I think it must be coming soon.

It's not always on my mind but any illness or general feeling crap in any of us my first thought is always "this is it".

The closer to an event is when I worry, so now it's anxiety about Xmas but once that's gone I'll be ok until the next big thing.

supertedious · 23/11/2021 20:57

I feel that way. My DH had it a few weeks back and some how I didn't catch it.
I work in a patient facing role and still wear full PPE etc. Just hope I don't catch it for Christmas Sad

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 23/11/2021 20:59

Yup, ive been saying it's going to happen to us for a while now, me and dds all tested positive currently! Double vaxxed and young kids but all pretty ill with it.

peppersauce1984 · 23/11/2021 21:00

I think it's inevitable. So many cases in my area. Dc brought it home from school last week (4 positive cases in her class). I caught it too. We're both over the worst thankfully. My dh hasn't got it. I'm sort of glad we got it now so that we don't get it at Xmas.

Watsername · 23/11/2021 21:01

That’s how I feel. I work in a primary school and have secondary aged children. It feels inevitable. However, I received my booster today, so hopefully I will fight it well when I do catch it.

Iggly · 23/11/2021 21:03

You sound like me OP even down to the ages of our DCs 😂

I wonder if we’ve had it and managed to dodge the worse. Ds said today he’s amazed he’s not had it because he’s been in close contact so many times.

guineapigs · 23/11/2021 21:05

Not really. Dh and dc had it last summer but I didn't have symptoms and negative pcr and lfts. Double vaxed when dh&dc got it. I will be getting booster on Saturday. No stress

Brainstorm21 · 23/11/2021 21:05

I have it this week. I'm convinced my daughter gave it to me.

Zero energy, headache, no appetite, tired. First symptom last week was vomiting and I don't really have a cough.

I thought I was just I'll but eventually did an LFT this morning and it was positive.

ViceLikeBlip · 23/11/2021 21:07

I've been feeling totally invincible (I'm a teacher, my own kids are in primary, I felt like I was the only person I knew who hadn't had it) but then I've gone and caught it this week! Day 3 now and I'm not feeling too bad. I'm actually feeling a massive sense of relief that it's finally happened tbh. And that I've now got 3 months off from having to test all the time (2x a week mandatory, but I've been testing more than that because I've been so paranoid about passing it on)

MyFirstMyLastMyEverythingBagel · 23/11/2021 21:08

I was just taking about this yesterday. Thinking we can't be that lucky? It's gonna get us one day isn't it. Today 3 positive tests out of 4 kids 😭
