To catch Covid? I don't want to obviously, but it just feels inevitable, maybe more so now than before.
I'm in a patient facing healthcare role. I haven't worked with someone knowingly infectious for over a year and I wear PPE, but people at work have caught it but I've been lucky so far.
DH didn't go out much last year as he was WFH but is now something, going to football matches etc.
DC's are 10 and 12. Back in school, obviously. There have been quite a few cases at older DC's school, sine of how good friends have tested positive recently. I'm not aware of the same happening at younger DC's school.
Three local friend friends have tested positive in the last week.
Me DH and older DC have had the vaccine (me + booster, DH booster next week, DC just the one).

Right now I feel like we're being circled by vipers!

I'm not afraid of it, I think if we do catch it we'll be fine. But it's the not knowing that's drinking me nuts. We're not reckless, but life dies feel like it's gone back to normal-ish, with all the social contact that that involves.
Or maybe we'll be lucky and Covid will never darken our door. Hopefully Confused

DC1 had it last year.
None of the rest of us have tested positive.

Various kids in their classes have had it.
I have no idea how DC2 or DH & I have not had it.
Getting my booster this week. 🤞🤞🤞

MammaLovesLeopard · 24/11/2021 06:39

@Catatemyhomework

Don't think because you're double vaxed you won't feel ill. I tested positive on a PCR on Sunday, along with dh and the dc. Dh and I feel rotten. I have never felt this ill reven when I had really bad flu when I was 17. I'm up at 3am because my body hurts so much I can't sleep. 😢
A friend was hospitalised for over a week. He was double vaxed. I really don't want it!
hellcatspangle · 24/11/2021 06:43

Yes me, although I have my booster today which will hopefully reduce my chances.

Since we've been allowed out we haven't been particularly careful - still wear masks on public transport etc but have been to a concert, and to pubs. We don't have school age dc though which I suppose helps! Most people I know seem to have caught it via kids.

FrenchFancie · 24/11/2021 08:04

I’m sat waiting for PCR results at the moment. I’ve got a horrific cough and just feel a bit tired and blah. It’s doing the rounds at work (school) we closed two classes last week with it and a close work colleague is off with it. If I’m positive (and I’ll be slightly surprised if I’m not!) then at least it’s out of the way before Christmas…..

FrothyB · 24/11/2021 08:33

I caught it a few weeks ago after a work trip to Poland. My colleague in the cab with me then caught it from me.

I had symptoms on the last day, so I did a test when getting home before seeing my fiancé and daughter. Positive. Went and slept in my car for the rest of the night before getting a PCR test, then shut myself in the second bedroom. I had no face to face contact with my fiancé at all, I had the window in the room open for most of the day despite it being cold. Would use the bathroom once a day, opening the windows and sanitising all surfaces afterwards.

My fiancé still caught it despite all those measures.

I wasn't as scared as I thought I would be once I tested positive. For a long time I thought I would certainly be hospitalised or even die due to my weight, but once I had it I figured there's nothing I can do now, the die is cast.

I was rough for maybe 3 days, then fine. No fever, no loss of taste. I was far more ill with something I got in April 2020 which wasn't covid as I had a PCR at the time, that fever scared me.

It's been inevitable that we'll likely all get it at some point for a while now.

No because we’re double vaxxed and boosted, wear masks in indoor public’s places, keep distance etc., so not concerned.

Feel a lot easier since a friend with worse health than mine contracted about a month ago. Sore throat and tired for a week or so but right as rain now. Double vaxxed.
Both my DH and I were double jabbed when we caught covid and we were both extremely ill with it (bad flu ill, not hospital ill) - I was off work for three weeks and am still not right now months later.

We were also both very, very careful (mask wearing, and social distancing, avoiding shops and anywhere crowded, taking al precautions in workplace etc etc), but we think my DH still caught it commuting to London despite wearing a mask and keeping his distance form anyone as much as poss, and anti baccing as much as poss before, during and after the journey.

It seems completely random as I have pretty rubbish health (but not anything CEV for covid), but my husband has no underlying health conditions and we were both v poorly with it; however my friend caught it who has been shielding as she's CEV with a serious lung condition, and the only reason she knew she had covid was because she lost her taste and smell, no other symptoms at all!

I also spoke to a colleague the other day who had covid and was double jabbed, but then caught covid for a second time AND was really very ill with iT”

You all recovered though Smile

Thank goodness for vaccines.

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/11/2021 09:07

friedeggandsauce

@MrsSkylerWhite why do you think being vaccinated will stop you getting it? It'll hopefully reduce symptoms but nearly everyone I know who has had it recently has been double vaccinated 🤷🏼‍♀️.“

I don’t but I’m far less worried than I was pre-vaccinations.

Peanut82 · 24/11/2021 09:14

We've not had it yet. I work in a patient facing role with sometimes covid positive patients, I'm fully jabbed and wear PPE.
Ive never needed a PCR test and never had to isolate, I'm sure my luck will run out though

VoyageInTheDark · 24/11/2021 09:14

Yep feel like I'm bound to get it soon. It's in DD's preschool but we all had negative pcrs last week.

Exhausteddog · 24/11/2021 09:15

My DS had it (very mildly) last week.
No one else got it.
I definitely feel its a case of when, not if we get it. DD was v anxious when DS had it because she has exams coming up.
If DH gets it, I'm sure the rest of us will because he is rubbish at covering his mouth when coughing or sneezing.

mydogisthebest · 24/11/2021 09:38

I am amazed I have not already had it. Me and DH nursed my mum. At the start we didn't know she had covid so had not been wearing masks.

When we found out it was covid we tried to always wear a mask but there were a few times when it didn't happen. When we were downstairs and she fell out of bed we both just ran upstairs. We did not stop to grab our masks first.

Frymetothemoon · 24/11/2021 09:50

DH and I feel like this. We haven't had it as far as we know and were double-jabbed by May. We're aware our immunity will have diminished quite a bit by now.

We have to go to work and use public transport and it's now cold, so people are spending more time indoors. Thinking it's more a matter of "when" and not "if"

DeclineandFall · 24/11/2021 10:00

DS got it last week - he's just finished his quarantine. 3 unvaxxed kids in his class all positive the same day and he'd been sitting beside all of them in their infectious period. So we pretty much knew his luck had run out and were lft ing him all week.
He was lucky- single vax and he was a bit snotty for a couple of days. Didn't pass it on to his friends. DH and I double vaxxed managed to avoid it. DS had it in March 20 and was much worse even with the earlier variant so I am really grateful for the vaxs. Reduced symptoms and stopped transmission. Particularly as DH is CV and is overdue his booster due to a cockup.

Cornettoninja · 24/11/2021 10:08

I feel like this around important dates that would be gutting to have to cancel and miss out on.

DD’s (5) birthday is coming up, obviously last year was a write off and she’s so excited for her party (only a small one with 8 kids). As Sod’s law dictates her class is currently having an outbreak and we’re rapidly approaching a date that any ten days isolation periods for her or her friends would affect the party.

I think I’d prefer isolation for over the Christmas period rather than miss out on all the lovely things that happen in the run up.

It’s shit.

amicissimma · 24/11/2021 11:14

I know fewer than 20 people who have knowingly had Covid at all. Each of them caught it in circumstances where catching it wasn't surprising (mostly hospital). I'm involved in a lot of organisations so I know a lot of people.

I have been in quite a few situations where I could've caught it, although I believed that the precautions taken were as good as possible and, as far as I know, haven't had it.

As a result I see no particular reason why I should catch it, although I'm aware that I might. I'm certainly not waiting for my turn.

emmathedilemma · 24/11/2021 11:43

Yes, I think it's a matter of when not if now. I'm double vaxxed, awaiting 6 months to pass to get booster, don't go to particularly crowded indoor places but I'm not staying at home for ever more and I'm back in the office and at the gym so even with wearing masks when moving around in those places the majority of the time we're not.

nordica · 24/11/2021 11:44

Yes, although compared to many I don't really spend much time in "high risk" situations - I wfh and don't have kids. I wear FFP2 masks on public transport and most of the people I spend time with are taking some precautions too (for example, I'm going to a party this weekend and we are all doing a LFT in the morning). But it will probably feel even more of a case of bad luck if and when I eventually catch it!

Treaclepie19 · 24/11/2021 11:49

Yeah i feel like this. Like we're going to get it at the worst time or something.
I've actually been to a music festival, gigs and was pregnant through 2020 and didn't get it.
My ds (6) had a positive lft and symptoms but his pcr is negative. I was almost relieved that we might have been through the worst of it because he was so ill.

Lilah2435 · 24/11/2021 11:51

Yes, I feel like that and its stressing me out. I don't want it but when my dc got a faint positive lft on Mon, i was kind of relieved that we would get it over and done with, the pcr came back negative though and no symptoms.

MrsMargaretBeaufort · 24/11/2021 11:54

Me! I worked the entire time through the lockdown, live in one of the most high rates areas - and nothing.

I dont know if I actually had it asymptomatic back when we didn't have the lateral flow tests and I am now immune. And tbh I think this is the case for most people really.

TuesdayRuby · 24/11/2021 11:57

I'm in the same boat, can't believe none of us have tested positive yet! Kids have been sent home from nursery so many times with coughs/fevers. DH and myself have been in many close, social situations with friends subsequently testing positive. I've had some awful "chest infections" this year with numerous LFT/PCR's and always negative!
Maybe I'm testing wrong... you put the swab stick in your ear right??? Grin

applesandpears33 · 24/11/2021 12:00

I don't think I've had it, but with 3 DC at school I see it as only a matter of time. Double vax'd but not due booster until January so hope I don't catch it between now and then. Friends who have been double jagged but got covid have been surprised at just how bad they have felt.

PeterPomegranate · 24/11/2021 12:00

Yep feel like it’s inevitable that our children will bring it home from school or my husband or I from the Tube or work. Hasn’t happened yet but I think we’re on borrowed time.

Husband’s sister and family have all had it recently (they live in a different part of the U.K. and we haven’t seen them) and my own sister tested positive this week but I haven’t seen her recently either.

Cheermonger · 24/11/2021 12:01

I felt like you, was like waiting for an operation or something. Anyway I got it two weeks ago, think it was when I went for my booster as we were queuing indoors for over an hour. Anyway I’ve had it, it was ok, just tired and coughing now but I feel invincible lol. Glad I’ve had it, through weirdly no one else in my family caught it from me.

delilahbucket · 24/11/2021 12:17

Not remotely concerned. I've never been worried about catching a virus before so I'm not about to start. Cases in my area have halved in the last month, they are plummeting. My only household risk is through the school DS is at, and it swept through there in July.
