Being reported today. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/booster-jab-covid-age-booking-b1957592.html

As a 49.5 year old, I'm feeling relieved.

It's behind a paywall but the headline para is full of reportedly', 'according to' and 'expected'. I really hope they will but I'd like to see it in praictse first!

User135644 · 15/11/2021 09:29

Most people in their 40s would have likely had their 2nd jab in July so it'd be January until that's 6 months.

72WayTooCool · 15/11/2021 09:31

Just confirmed by Jonathan V-T that over 40s are eligible from today.

Just watching this on Sky News now, interesting! I wonder if they'll say there needs to be a certain time passed since your first?

MareofBeasttown · 15/11/2021 09:34

Brilliant news! thanks for flagging this.

6 months, like the over 50s.
TokyoSushi · 15/11/2021 09:35

BBC website suggesting it's 6 months after your last dose

megletthesecond · 15/11/2021 09:35

Hurray. I assumed we'd get there. I'm due at the very end of Dec.

Perhaps they've given up trying to get through to the unvaccinated and are instead just trying to get as much protection as they can in everyone else to try and see the NHS through winter.
TokyoSushi · 15/11/2021 09:36

Cross-post @SickAndTiredAgain thank you!

I just logged on to book but it says I'm not eligible to book a booster online... Might try a walk in centre.

My 2nd dose was on 12th June (I'm 43 but got an early dose through work). So 5 months from my second dose.

hellsbells99 · 15/11/2021 09:46

They should just say everyone can get a booster 6 months after their second one. So anyone who had it early due to work or health reasons can still get it 6 months after their last. Instead the government have changed the health criteria (and people may have changed jobs) so some people are going to end up with a massive gap between their 2 nd jab and their booster

I can’t book either. I wonder if over forties can’t yet book early? The NHS website hasn’t been updated yet with any info.
72WayTooCool · 15/11/2021 09:55

I'm having a bash at booking. Apparently I'm number 137 in the queue so it looks like us 40 somethings are all having a go!

Definitely a move in the right direction but I’m 39 and my six months was up a week ago (previously in shielded group then removed from it), so have to say I’m a bit miffed. Why can’t they just extend to all adults past 6 months ffs

JassyRadlett · 15/11/2021 09:57

16 and 17s can get a second dose too, which is great news. Hopefully will be extended to the 12-15s soon too.

Magilix · 15/11/2021 09:57

I feel very relieved! I've just tried booking online though and it says I'm not eligible. I'm 49 and more than five months after my second dose.

DumplingsAndStew · 15/11/2021 10:00

I'm still attempting to get a second dose for my vulnerable teenagers and getting nowhere.

Vaccination clinic said to speak to their GP. GP says they aren't involved with the covid vaccines anymore 😫

Do you mind me asking which site you are on for booking? I have gone on the nhs app and it’s still showing over 50s. My 6 months is up next week 😊
SpringRainbow · 15/11/2021 10:01

I am not surprised about this at all, I always assumed that at least all adults will be offered boosters.

Also fully expecting all over 12s to eventually be offered 2 doses. Also wouldn’t be surprised if they eventually get a booster as well.

Why they can’t be honest about all this from the start I have absolutely no idea.

The biggest question for me is how long and how many boosters this will go on for really. I doubt they will be able to keep this going on forever.

I wonder if, eventually, it will be like the flu jab and it will be offered annually to those in at risk groups?
ilovesooty · 15/11/2021 10:05

Great news if they can roll it out smoothly.

Bobholll · 15/11/2021 10:09

Ace. I’m 34 but I got my vaccines 5 weeks apart, with my second being in June. My area seemed to have a surplus of vaccines & were inviting anyone forwards within 3 weeks of Pfizer & 4 weeks of AZ..

So I’m 6 months in December! I assume I may not be eligible though as I’m 34 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I’ve just had covid so I’m probably reasonably immune at this point!

steppemum · 15/11/2021 10:09

I really don't understand this.

I think it is a good idea, but I am 54, and I got vaccinated as soon as I was allowed to and had my second does 8 weeks later.

I will not be eligible for a booster until December.

There is a constant stream of comment on the news encouraging people to go for boosters and bemoaning the fact that the take up is low.

But many of us are just not eligible yet!

freckles20 · 15/11/2021 10:12

I'm 47. Had my welcome dose 8 months ago. Just tried to book third jab online but the system said that I wasn't eligible.

Maybe it's not updated yet?
