What was covid like for your children?

Dd is a little unwell. Doing a pcr later.

She's got no temp. She's very snotty, she gets allergies anyway so thought it was that at first but she's been snotty since yesterday with no let up. Today she's woke up very congested. Occasional cough from sniffing and sneezing.
Also complaining of a slight headache. I sound say usual energy levels, doesn't seem overly tired or fatigued. Watery eyed. Sounds very much like a cold bug will obviously do a pcr.

Obviously pcr will tell but how was covid for your children?

No known cases in her school but the area we live in is pretty rife with it at the minute.

She's also due flu nasal spray this week? Say her test was negative and she was well enough to go school in a day or two? Will they still do it?

My 14 year old was pretty much symptom free- a very mild sore throat for a couple of days, a couple of light headaches, maybe a bit tired. Only knew she was positive because we did a precautionary lateral flow before going anywhere.

DS7 woke up in the night warm, with a cough and said his head ached. He had been more tired than normal a few days before but that’s not unusual for this time in the term. Was pretty much back to normal after the 2 day.

High temperature, listless, bit of a sore throat, completely lost their sense of taste and smell.

8yo DD complained of a headache at school and they requested PCR. 10yo had no discernable symptoms.

15 and 16 year old both splitting headaches for days and eye sockets aching. Feeling sick. Feeling tired.
12 and 13 year old symptom free.

None of them had a temperature, no cough, no snotty nose, no congestion and no positive LFT until at least day 3

My 10 year old son has it at the moment.. only on day 3 though. His main symptom is painful eyes. Medicine does help. He also said his throat is slightly sore.

Ah yes and by day 4/5 had lost taste and smell which is not fully back and they had it over the half term

Had a cough, sore throat, aching, loss of smell and taste, had a fever for one day. Felt pretty rough but lasted only about 3/4 days

7YO DS has symptoms for about 3 days, couple of days after his positive test, temp, feeling generally weak and vomiting

12 Year old- temperatures of 40, feeling sick, tight chest and struggling to breath, eyes hurting, lethargy. Recovered in 72 hours apart from the tiredness.

9 year old-very mild symptoms, a sore throat and her mouth hurt.

My 13 and 11 year old DC had Covid last month. They both had a slight temperature, tiredness, headaches and their eyes were painful, particularly when they looked up or to the side. The symptoms lasted about 3 days for both.

11yo DD

• headachy and a bit under the weather (but negative LFT)
• sore throat (positive PCR)
• sore throat quickly became so sore it was difficult to speak & swallow, still headachy & bit under the weather but well enough to be out on the trampoline, playing football (in the garden obvs)
• day three/four/five/six - as above but now really lethargic and either sleeping or lying on the sofa watching TV. Generally really uncomfortable & miserable. Pain of throat meant it was very difficult to eat which didn't help with lack of energy. When she did eat (ice lollies & similar) sense of taste was fine.
• day seven - bam! Better! Hungry, bored, bouncing off the walls.

Age 3 and 4. One fever spike. The youngest had his fever 5 days after positive pcr. Couple of days of watching telly and mountains and mountains of snot. They had slight coughs but the sheer quantity of snot was very notable

Ds 16 fatigued for a week, and a cough

She cannot really blow her nose properly yet. How will snot affect the test? Hoping she'll sneeze just before!

12yo had it 2 weeks ago. Tested positive 5 days before her jab was due . She had a headache for about 4 days and felt tired and was a bit weepy. (It was TOGM though so prob hormones making her emotional). She also had no appetite and didn't eat a proper meal for a few days.

No cough, no temperature, no snot.

DD7 first complained of a headache so we did a LFT and it was positive, but we did expect it as both DH and I were already confirmed positive at that point. She went on to develop sneezing, runny nose for 2-3 days and complained of an aching body and legs. We gave calpol as needed and she perked up. Lasted no more than 5 days then back to normal. Her 5 year old brother had no symptoms at all despite testing positive at the same time.

DC tested positive at same time as me. No idea when he had it from though, had been a bit tired, with some snot and a bit off from 10 days before. Absolutely fine now, and was from the positive test.

My dd started snotty with watery eyes and now has a cough though not continuous she's very congested and her chest and throat hurts. She now says she aches and as spouts of feeling sick too. Her eyes are still watery but my ds has no symtoms at all yet.

Thanks all. Pcr booked this morning. I'm hoping it's just a cold but who knows. It's a bizarre virus with how some people get no symptoms and others really poorly plus the huge variation in symptoms. I think the government need to update the symptoms list!

Loss of appetite was the first symptom followed by headache and mild temperature. Eyes were very painful and then it was a bit like a chesty cold. Sense of taste and smell did go but can't remember at what point. Acute illness was only 3/4 days but it left them tired and achey. Both were well enough to return to normal activities by the end of isolation.

Complete non event here. DD (2) has been properly ill with all sorts of other viruses and croup. But Covid was the most well she’s been with any illness. She had no symptoms when tested then had a cough but nothing else. She ate fine, slept fine, normal energy. I was so worried but if we hadn’t tested you’d never have known.

Someone shared this in another covid thread which I found really interesting. I don't understand why the government and NHS aren't updating the symptoms at all?

Mine were barely under the weather. Youngest got blood shot itchy eyes and nothing more, others had scratchy throat and a bit of congestion but that was it. They've been more ill with the fauxvid we all had recently.
