A Moderna Booster

58 replies

I am really hoping to get a Moderna shot rather than a Pfizer as my booster. Moderna's stats on breakthrough infections are way more impressive than Pfizer's and just not getting infected it my priority. (I am group 4 and have shielded pretty much throughout.) I'm in North Yorkshire (nr Scarborough). Anyone local know of any vaxx centres giving Moderna rather than Pfizer? Thanks

(I know it's a long shot but I thought I'd try it.)

Moderna at Taunton yesterday.

@laurraine if you can't have the Pfizer, they may refuse to give you Moderna as they are pretty much the same (ingredients wise). AZ can be used for a booster if the others aren't appropriate, but you would have to find somewhere still giving it.

Thanks Cookerhead.
I am going to be speaking on the phone with my GP again this afternoon.

Don't waste your time. Boosters are Pfizer unless medical reason not to.
Well that’s wrong considering I’ve just had the Moderna booster.

@Laurraine, in case your GP hasn't read the Green book, this is what is says:
"Reinforcing vaccination
Based on an unpublished study of immunogenicity and reactogenicity in those primed with
different vaccines in the UK, the committee advised that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine should be offered as a booster dose irrespective of the vaccine used for the primary course.
Although no comparative studies are available, the committee agreed that a half dose (50µg) of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is a suitable alternative as it gives good immune responses in those primed with Moderna and is expected to be less reactogenic than a full dose (Choi et al, 2021).
Where mRNA vaccines are not suitable, vaccination with AstraZeneca vaccine may be considered in those who had received at least one dose of this vaccine previously.

@Cookerhead
Thank you very much for showing me this information. Unfortunately I only saw it after I had spoken with my doctor.

My doctor previously told me that the AstraZeneca is not being used as a booster.
