Minimum time for smell loss

I've lost my sense of smell, and I'm feeling very sad about it. I can't really taste anything :-(

Can anyone give me hopeful stories of their sense of smell returning after a (very) short amount of time?

Alas. 3 weeks later here.. my taste came back to about 80% normal in 10 days. It’s still not quite right, I can’t taste various things like ginger, garlic, mint 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I can enjoy food for the most part!

My smell is still zero.

Diian · 30/10/2021 19:02

Okay just to be clear, I really don't want to hear anything about it taking months/years... I'm wanting happy stories only!

Just 2 days for DS.

Courtier · 30/10/2021 19:37

Mine was about a week without and then another week of not fully able

edisonbulb · 30/10/2021 19:48

4 days for me but sometimes it goes again randomly

Bimblesalong · 30/10/2021 19:53

Day 12 started to get a ghost of it, day 14 and I think it really is coming back. (Days from initial symptoms).

Noonoo8589 · 30/10/2021 20:05

It’s bothering me so much. I’ve cleaned the house top to bottom today and I’ve lit lovely wintery scented candles tonight and I’m gutted I can’t smell them. Had covid early October. Have smelt odd bits like when perfume is very first sprayed so must be returning slowly.
I just read on the nhs website that it might help to rinse your nose out with saltwater so I’m going to try that tomorrow although not sure how pleasant that will be.

LarryVeest · 30/10/2021 20:55

Thanks for the non-doomy stories! I really appreciate it. Wishing you all smelliness.

Mine was only a week then back to normal! It’s such a weird side effect!

Popfan · 30/10/2021 20:58

I lost my smell and taste for a week.

sachaf08 · 30/10/2021 21:08

Only a week for me as well, I hope it comes back soon for you!

FurForksSake · 30/10/2021 21:12

Mine was a week or so, I did smell training with essential oils and took omega fish oil capsules.

Bromeliad · 30/10/2021 21:13

My husband lost his sense of smell for exactly one day. We know this because he couldn't smell that the toddler had pooed one morning but could the next Grin

bumblefeline · 30/10/2021 21:13

Two days for me. DH never lost his and he was hospitalized.

Get well soon!

Oh that's interesting! I take omega oil anyway... Is it meant to help?

Mine was about a week or so and blowing my nose a lot whilst eating seemed to help get it back.

summercupcake · 30/10/2021 21:18

About 5 days here, returned very gradually and was back to normal about a week later.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 30/10/2021 21:18

About 4 days for me!
