Impossible to book booster jab

Dogatetheleftovers · 28/10/2021 10:25

I’ve been trying to book the Covid booster but am finding it impossible. On the NHS website, it says that you can book via 119 if 6 months and one week have passed since your second vaccine and haven’t yet been contacted to book your appointment. So I rang 119 and was told that I couldn’t book until I’d been contacted. I explained what the website said and she was as puzzled as me! It’s just going round in circles.

@Motorina it hasn't worked for me either. It's been 190 days. I might turn to ring 119 but that hasn't worked for @Dogatetheleftovers Sad

Dogatetheleftovers · 28/10/2021 11:10

It’s so frustrating as the website says you can book via 119 if you aren’t successful online but then the advisor tells you that they only operate the same system as the online one! Therefore they can’t override that system. When I pointed out that people are advised to call 119 after 6 months and 1 week, she just said they couldn’t help, 🙁

It's really frustrating. Can I ask are you booking because of your age group or because you're CEV/CV? I'm CV so wondering if that is why I have to wait for my GP surgery to contact me...

IAAP · 28/10/2021 11:16

Have you waited 190 since jab 2? Phone the gp they can override the system

Cookerhood · 28/10/2021 11:16

Just go to a walk in clinic if you have one nearby

Dreamingofbeergardens · 28/10/2021 11:36

@IAAP it is day 190 today, I'm waiting to see if they send me a text today (wishful thinking).
@Cookerhood my mum went to a walk in clinic through our GP but she was invited by text, so I don't know if I could just show up.

Sprostongreen21 · 28/10/2021 11:40

My Dad is the same tbh. He is vulnerable and well past 6 months. Website won’t allow it. GP aren’t involved with them so can’t help. And he hadn’t had an invite.

He is clinically unwell and not that mobile so needs an appointment so transport can be arranged.

Leftbutcameback · 28/10/2021 11:45

From what I’ve heard I think the system may have a one day lag in it. Is it 190 clear whole days? As in not including the day you had it? I suspect it might work tomorrow.

IAAP · 28/10/2021 11:48

Go to a walk in vaccination centre. When doing my eldest yesterday at the local vaccination centre they asked me how many days but I’ve been 137 and they said come back at 180

Leftbutcameback · 28/10/2021 11:49

It seems quite hard to find walk in centres though. I had my booster on Sunday at our big centre and they said they were only doing bookings for boosters, and walk in for the others

FeatheredHope · 28/10/2021 11:50

As well as being 6 months and a week post second jab, you also need to either be classed as vulnerable or over 50.
Do you match all of that criteria?

Leftbutcameback · 28/10/2021 11:51

But if there is one close to you OP it must be worth a try. When I went to mine they asked to see my text invite (which was from the NHS not my GP). I’m CEV and mine arrived on 6 months and four days

Cookerhood · 28/10/2021 12:28

Yes you can just show up. You can search on the government website for walk in centres

That’s utterly crap.

Does your local system have a helpline or booking line or website? There is a number you can call here that overrides 119 and can help you, including agreeing to vaccinate people who need special transport etc.
Ifailed · 28/10/2021 12:34

I agree OP. I'm particularly annoyed at being blamed for the rise in infections as I'm one of the many millions who are yet to have a booster, but I can't bloody book one! As far as I can tell, there no walk-in centres in Kent which will give you a booster, you have to wait 'till contacted.

What do you mean 'GP can't help as he's not involved with them'?

It's the information from GP systems that determine who is classed as clinically vulnerable, so if he is under 50 and the GP hasn't indicated he is CV he won't get an invite.

If he is over 50 he should be able to book anyway whether he's classed as CV or not.

Dreamingofbeergardens · 28/10/2021 12:59

@IAAP thank you for this. I rang my GP and they booked me an appointment. @Dogatetheleftovers it might be worth you ringing your GP?

Roadtripconcept · 28/10/2021 16:31

I'm 2 days over 6 months . I tried typing my details into the NHS booking app earlier today . It said I was eligible to book (I was surprised) .
I logged back in later to try and book an appointment . It is now saying that I'm not eligible .
I did wonder if I'd accidentally clicked 'yes' for being a nurse or social care worker . I hadn't .
So not really sure what happened there !

Mindymomo · 28/10/2021 17:46

Booked my DH in for his today, his 6 months were up yesterday.

HundredMilesAnHour · 28/10/2021 18:03

I was told that it's actually 6 months and 10 days before you become eligible. And that appears to be the case with people I know.

ShanghaiDiva · 28/10/2021 18:05

I was 6 months and I Day yesterday and able to book. I also received a text message advising that I was able to book.
Booked online.

Floralnomad · 28/10/2021 18:09

I’ve not received a text but I’ve just tried with the link above and it’s letting me book , exactly 6 months 1 week .
