How long did it take for your DC to pass on the infection?

Sorry I’m sure this has been asked a zillion times before. DS(17) tested positive on Friday but is currently asymptomatic.

He’s mainly confined to his bedroom but I know there’s still a high likelihood of him passing it on to the rest of us. I think I read that most transmission of delta takes 3-5 days.

I was wondering how that fits with the experience of others? Unless of course you managed to escape altogether.

DH and I are both late 40s, double jabbed with AZ since May & June.

My son tested positive on a Tuesday and I started coughing on the Thursday. I then tested positive on the Friday.
He was confined to his room too! But obviously he passed it on before he felt ill.

Phillipa12 · 24/10/2021 18:39

My ds age 7 was asymptomatic and despite being unable to isolate due to age no one else in the family contracted covid.

QueenofLouisiana · 24/10/2021 18:39

I felt slightly unwell on Friday, definitely ill on Saturday (but on my own all day) and on Monday everyone else tested positive. I'd been isolating in the spare room on Sunday/ Monday morning until they went to be tested.

Whataday21 · 24/10/2021 18:41

I'll let you know tomorrow! But could be day 8. Or other dc could have brought it in this week...

pinkcattydude · 24/10/2021 18:43

10th day today and touchwood none of us caught it from him.

BlackInk · 24/10/2021 18:46

DS 12 finishes his isolation tomorrow and so far the rest of us are all clear – DD 9 and me and DP late 40s and double-vaccinated.

DS stayed mainly in his room when he was feeling ill, but we didn't isolate him as such.

Bluebellfae · 24/10/2021 18:47

Going through the same, DS tested pos last Sunday all negative here so far but ive had some weird symptoms but negative Pcr day 7 here xx

sheeplikessleep · 24/10/2021 18:49

DS is 14 and tomorrow is his last day of isolation (got positive PCR tested on Friday 15th). He’s been in his room and so far, my two other DS, DH and I haven’t caught it. I’m starting to believe/hope we might have avoided it (this time!) 🤞

Tatum1234 · 24/10/2021 18:52

My 16yo had it and didn’t pass it on to anyone.
Then a month later my 14yo had it, he tested positive the Friday, my 7yo tested positive the Sunday, my 8yo positive the next Friday and finally me on the Saturday. Dh did not catch it.

AlexaShutUp · 24/10/2021 18:55

DD did a positive ltf on Sunday evening. Developed symptoms and did a positive pcr on Monday. I had symptoms and a positive pcr by Wednesday. DH didn't get it at all.

LetitGhost · 24/10/2021 19:13

Dd (16) had it 5 months ago and didn't pass it on to any of us. Dd (14) had it 6 weeks ago and also didn't pass it on to any of us. Good luck!

Handmaid2019 · 24/10/2021 19:17

My ds10 tested positive two weeks ago today. My other ds10 and I are both still negative, my partner tested positive today, with no symptoms.

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 24/10/2021 19:40

DS had it in July and DD start of October….. none of the rest of the family got it either time. None of us isolated from the poorly DC as they’re both quite young. They had symptoms but were thankfully fairly mild.

DH and I both in our 40s and double jabbed.

sheeplikessleep · 24/10/2021 19:40

@Handmaid2019

My ds10 tested positive two weeks ago today. My other ds10 and I are both still negative, my partner tested positive today, with no symptoms.
That’s a time lag isn’t it? Do you think your partners positive is from your ds10? Or unrelated? I thought the 10 day isolation was based on not being contagious after that point.
Goodmorninglights · 24/10/2021 19:40

6 days here. Didn’t isolate initially as his lfts were negative. Same for me, then positive after positive pcr, rather peculiar.

BananaPB · 24/10/2021 19:56

Dd caught it on Tuesday night and her brother had lost his smell by Friday morning

Whistleforthechoir · 24/10/2021 20:01

2 to 3 days for me to catch from DD. Think I got it before she showed symptoms. DS and DH got it a couple of days later. Both DH and I are double vaccinated with AZ, we all had it.

ItsSnowJokes · 24/10/2021 20:03

Didn't happen to us. 4 year old hugging, kissing and generally being all over us and neither of us caught covid. We had a different vaccine to most people (part of a vaccine trial) and it held up very very well. It was also confirmed by antibody testing 4 weeks after she had had covid and we definitely hadn't had it.

fadingfast · 24/10/2021 20:32

Well it seems like it’s going to be entirely unpredictable then! Thanks for all the replies. Quite surprised how many have not picked it up from their DCs. From reading other threads on here, you would think it was inevitable. Still, very early days for us…

My 15y old had it last November. My 14y just came out of isolation. Nobody caught it in our house. They were in their bedrooms and ate in there. If showered, I cleaned down the bathroom....it can be done. Easier with teens who are ok in their rooms 😁

JuneOsborne · 24/10/2021 20:58

Day 7 of Ds being positive. None of us have it. Lft negative and no symptoms. PCR tests arrived today, so we'll do those tomorrow.

orangina01 · 24/10/2021 21:02

We never caught it off our child despite not isolating them in the house. They were mostly asymptomatic though.

snowone · 24/10/2021 21:17

DF positive Monday, DD positive Tuesday, DH positive Friday (probably from DD as he WFH) I didn't get it and neither did my youngest DD. My step mum also didn't catch it from my dad.

Shodan · 24/10/2021 21:22

Ds2 (13) had a cough and a bit of a runny nose with his.

I didn't catch it at all, despite him not isolating in his room or anything.

I'm double jabbed, 52 y/o, if that's relevant.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 24/10/2021 22:13

Dd tested positive on 12/10 and her dad tested positive a week later. Her siblings and I didn’t get it.
