Would you go for a PCR?

I have one booked, but DH is pissed off about it.

I've got an 8 week old DC with bronchillitis and is quite poorly, I also have 2yo DC with a chest infection, equally quite poorly and is on antibiotics

2yo running a temp, lots of snot (sorry!)

I then have developed a raging sore throat, very slight infrequent cough and heavy headaches. DH is coughing his head off.

DH and I did lft's last night and are all negative. However, I wanted to confirm that we are negative with a PCR.

DH has point blank refused, I said I'll go ahead and get one and he says I'm paranoid and reminded me there are other bugs going around this time of year. He's right, I've caught many. I just generally don't suffer with a sore throat and I've heard so many hit and miss stories about the LFT plus they aren't meant to be used with symptoms.

Wwyd in this situation?

I have health anxiety since having DC 8 weeks ago I am a little scared about him being sick, which is now the case. I have anxiety stemming from my eldest being hospitalised when very young so I don't know if I'm being OTT about this

Well a cough is one of the key 3 symptoms that requires a PCR. I don't get the drama about a PCR. Most people have them quite regularly. You just book, rock up, get it done. I would definitely have one with those symptoms. Could be a cold, could be delta.

I'm always on covid alert I was a student nurse while pregnant and my anxiety has heightened since having the baby, I think DH is fed up of me worrying.

Yes I would get one. You poor thing both children ill and now you are too. Is DH looking after the children as much as poss (bearing in mind your smallest is very new) so that you can rest?

@heldinadream DH is looking after them, he's currently cuddling the littlest while our eldest has a nap. He's great and very hands on, just think he's annoyed about me wanting a PCR. He's fine now but I'm worrying I'm being over dramatic

@saltontoast I'm glad to hear that. Just get a PCR - you're not being over dramatic and anyway if it sets your mind at rest for a few more days does it matter?
Hope you're all better soon - and that DH doesn't get it (whatever it is!).

Having a PCR test is really easy and fast, especially if you go to a drive through.

I don't really understand why you wouldn't get a PCR in these circumstances. It's easy to do and you'll get the results very quickly.

I had negative lft early on but pcr positive. I've definitely got covid. Positive on lft a couple of days after symptoms appeared.
Yes get a pcr you aren't being dramatic.
If you are positive don't let it worry you even more though!

You and DH have a choice of having a PCR test or staying in the house for 10 days. I would rather have a PCR test.

@Neolara I have one booked, I'm getting one. Just wanted to see if other people would've done the same as DH says lft results are enough and was abit peeved about me being worried we could have covid

You're doing the right thing, your DH is being a twat.

Hope you & the kids are feeling better soon. Be careful & don't hesitate to take the youngest to A&E if YOU feel you need to, it can be very serious snd your DH could make you hesitate when you need to take the baby in.

I’ve got exactly the same symptoms including the nasty cough and I had a negative pcr yesterday but a slightly positive lateral. Makes no sense but I’m isolating for 10 days as I feel like crap.

@SpookyPumpkinPants thanks, we've been at A&E and they've said he doesn't need any antibiotics but have gave me leaflets with how to manage bronchillitis and what to look out for if he gets worse. Best thing I've done was make sure he's slightly propped up with a pillow under his mattress (advised by nhs) it seems to be helping his breathing. He's so tiny and it's so upsetting seeing him sick Sad

DH should definitely get a PCR with that cough. I would too if I were you. It's not being paranoid or even anxious. It's following guidelines and being sensible and considerate. I'm the least heath anxious person around and would get a PCR for a cough, as I did recently.

You are doing the right thing and people with your DH's attitude are unreasonable.

There is no way he knows what has caused his cough so he needs to get a PCR test and stop being dramatic.

Oh you poor thing what a horrible time for you all. Yes right to get the pcr, you all should really but don’t worry.
Hope your little one gets better soon, it’s worse 3-5 days in then gets better, just hang in there.

DH has agreed to a PCR. he says he thought his negative lft should be enough and he's caught the DC's chest infection (very possible) but also said he knows he should've booked a PCR, he's just feeling abit down about it all (I also think being tired from two sick kids has effected his mood today)

He's got one booked for tomorrow

That sounds really hard, I'm sorry you're all ill.

I have health anxiety and my DP gets cross when I say we need to do PCRs. I really don't understand why, if I get one it sets my mind at rest and I stop being anxious! I never get them unless I have reason to think one of us has Covid. He always refuses, even if he's coughing his head off. He does do lateral flows before events so he's not averse to testing to protect other people. Personally I'd rather know if/when I've had it.
