Taste dulled but not completely gone, anyone else?

So I'm day 4, I've noticed from this morning that things taste funny, so I can taste sweet and salty but that's it, no back ground taste iyswim ?

Fancy mango ice cream tastes like sugar just sugar. Main meal ( didn't eat much ) just tasted savoury, salty but bland.

Did anyone else have their taste just dulled rather than go completely? Or is it likely to go completely over the next few days?

I think I can still smell ok, up close to perfume bottles but maybe nothing unless I'm up close.

Sorry to hear this. You might find that it goes completely. Mine went on about 7 after a day of dulled taste. My sense of smell had gone when I woke up sms by the evening my taste had gone as well. I thought I had missed that symptom by day 7!
Hope you feel better soon and you don’t lose it.

Wagsandclaws · 15/10/2021 19:18

That's what I thought might happen although like you I expected it earlier on but it's early days I suppose. Thank you Smile

I've lost my taste.
Can't even comfort eat during this shit show.

OliveTree75 · 15/10/2021 19:30

Yes me when I had it earlier this year. I lost my smell but taste was only dulled for a few days.

Bugbeau · 15/10/2021 19:30

I can just about taste if something is sweet or savoury but that’s about it. My mum dropped over a big box of chocs and I can’t even taste them!! Totally agree the lack of comfort eating is a big blow, the only silver lining is if I lose a few pounds I guess!

Babdoc · 15/10/2021 19:39

My taste went haywire- everything tasted of either perfume or disinfectant! It came back to normal within a few days, but I am still struggling with long Covid fatigue and breathlessness after 19 months.

Wagsandclaws · 15/10/2021 19:42

@Justwingingit2005 sorry to hear that it's rubbish isn't it?

@Babdoc that's awful, such a long time to still be getting the after effects Sad

I can't smell or taste. I lost both early on and I'm on day 6 with no sign of them coming back. I can tell if something is sweet or salty but that's about as far as it goes. I ate salted cardboard for dinner aka pizza Sad

Chocachocaholic · 15/10/2021 19:50

Yes I've had dulled taste for the last few days and no smell either. I'm in day 8. So glad my taste hasn't fully gone though! If it's a strong taste it's much better but if it's something without a strong taste it just tastes very bland.

Farcry66 · 15/10/2021 19:52

That's how mine started but a bit earlier than you, by day 3 it had completely gone. I'm on day 5 and I've just rinsed my mouth with corysodol mouthwash (covid seems to be making my gums bleed!!!) And have a faint taste of something. Although I had a shower using original source mint and tea tree stuff and couldn't smell anything.

Desperately hoping it comes back soon, had to rearrange a dinner party from tomorrow to next weekend, not looking forward to cooking if I can't taste it as I go!!!!

DrCoconut · 15/10/2021 20:04

@Bugbeau I appear to have lost about 6lbs so far this week 😫. I have plenty to spare but can't help thinking it's not healthy. Everything tastes the same (nothing) and my appetite has drastically reduced.

Wagsandclaws · 15/10/2021 20:05

@Chocachocaholic that's the same for me, it's really dulled.

@Farcry66 hope it comes back in time for your dinner party!

My taste is exactly the same as you describe. I can taste sweet or salty but no depth to anything. But it’s been like that the whole way through, hasn’t got any worse.
My sense of smell seems to be returning now so i hope taste will follow!

Bugbeau · 15/10/2021 20:38

@DrCoconut yes also have very little appetite. Not sure if it’s because I can’t taste anything so eating seems pointless or because I feel ill. Hope your sense of taste comes back soon!

whattodo2019 · 15/10/2021 20:43

I'm Day 4 although I'm sure i am one of the people who had a fake negative PCR last week.
I lost my sense of smell yesterday and my sense of taste is limited.
I agree it's so disappointing not to be able to comfort eat.... I changed the bed sheets and had no enjoyment from the smell of fresh linen. Endless hand washing and no lovely soap smells etc etc......I do hope it comes back

MrsEricBana · 15/10/2021 21:17

Zero smell but still got altered taste. Tea tastes too weird to drink, which is very upsetting.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 15/10/2021 21:24

Almost no smell, and really dulled taste. Day 5. I'm really hoping it comes back soon - quarantine is boring enough!

Noonoo8589 · 15/10/2021 21:32

I tested positive on Saturday. I’ve had no smell whatsoever since Friday 😭 but I’ve pretty much been able to taste all the way through.
Some things have tasted odd, had chilli on Monday and that was really weird and I can’t tell if there’s a sugar in my tea but I can taste everything else.

userxx · 15/10/2021 21:39

Absolutely no sense of smell or taste for the past 7 days. It's dragging on.

Porcupineintherough · 16/10/2021 00:30

Same
Wagsandclaws · 16/10/2021 07:12

Sounds like it's a common thing. I was expecting to lose my taste entirely but it's about 60 percent dulled. Mind you this morning I haven't had my first cup of tea yet so we shall see!

I had that but kept sense of smell with something which apparently wasn't covid.

A workmate of mine had exactly the same symptoms and did have covid. She kept her smell but reckons she lost about 50% of her taste from about day 4 which came back rapidly.

jackstini · 16/10/2021 12:06

Came on specifically to see if anyone else has this!

I can just about tell sweet vs savoury but nothing tastes how it should and when I'm not eating or drinking I have a constant nasty taste in my mouth

Am on day 15 and this started on day 4

Brushing teeth tastes disgusting
Fed up but I suppose at least it's keeping me off wine... Sad

It's turning me to the wine...... cheap wine as I can't taste how disgusting it is, bonus!
