What's Happening with the Booster Programme

It's gone very quiet. Has anyone heard about booster jabs being given in their area?

OP posts:
Wellbythebloodyhell · 05/10/2021 20:17

Boosters are in full swing in my area of the NW and have been for a couple of weeks now.

maggiso · 05/10/2021 20:43

I had mine last week after receiving an invitation by text- saying it was more than 6 months since my second jab ( CEV, nhs staff ,over 65). I later received an invitation letter also- about a week after the text. I guess many of the very elderly don’t have mobile phones to receive texts, so may be getting their letters now. The people getting their boosters were mostly elderly or older health or social care staff. It seems to be well organised.

WhatHaveIFound · 05/10/2021 20:48

I took my parents for their but they're late 70s/early 80s. I get all their NHS texts to my phone so I booked them in straight away. There were a lot of younger NHS staff/carers having theirs too at the clinic I went to.

CiderWithLizzie · 05/10/2021 20:50

Thank you @Cuck00soup - just checked my GP record and it’s not there either! My flu jab is that I had 2 days earlier though.

Cuck00soup · 05/10/2021 20:56

That’s interesting then! I’m not going to even pretend I understand. I know when I set up my own app I had to ring the surgery and ask them to check a box to permit my app to access my records, but that doesn’t make any sense if your flu jab is showing but not your booster.

Maybe it’s taking longer to show up.

Neither my flu or booster are showing anywhere. It's annoying as I'm going on holiday in 7 days and had hoped it would show in case anything changes while I'm away and they say that if you had your vaccines over 180 days ago you need a booster
QuarantineQueen · 06/10/2021 11:53

Thanks @Cuck00soup but unfortunately it is saying I'm not eligible. I'm quite rural so we must be behind.
I might keep checking every day to see if it changes!

user752413 · 06/10/2021 12:42

Don't wait for your GP to call you if you think you are eligible.

Check the national booking website and book yourself in.

There are booster clinics all over and often mixed in with people getting their 1st and 2nd doses.

Cuck00soup · 06/10/2021 14:07

If you had your second on or before the 9th April, you should still be able to book even if you have to travel outside your local area.

Can I ask if your eligibility is based on age (over 50) or being clinically vulnerable?

Sometimes people who are CV haven't been identified as such by their GP and so the system won't let them book. If this is you, it might be worth checking with your practice.

TreaslakeandBack · 06/10/2021 14:19

Started a week ago doing boosters plus flu. My parents had theirs last week- both over 70 and I had mine on Friday (HCP).
No side effects.

ifonly4 · 06/10/2021 14:36

I've been invited for mine at 25 weeks, having it done at 37 weeks though due to inconvenient location.

My Mum is early 80s and hers is booked at exactly 25 weeks.

Looks like we're being called early here.

Weseylady · 06/10/2021 16:02

Our gp surgery is pushing the flu jabs. Nurse says that there are likely to be more cases of flu around this year due to us all being less exposed to germs this year..
Am.supposing that this makes a flu jab more important this year? Have had covid but may be important for those not had covid as if you got covid and flu at same time would be horrid.. but for rhose of us who have had covid i presume flu jab best to have? Never had one!

Weseylady · 06/10/2021 16:03

Oops sorry . The above post was supposed to.be a new post

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 06/10/2021 16:53

In full swing here. Most of my friends have had theirs.

RuthW · 06/10/2021 17:02

There are very few people eligible at the moment as it has to be 26 weeks for second to booster. Our clinics are fully booked and I'm dealing with covid booster queries hourly.

RuthW · 06/10/2021 17:04

By the way, age and vulnerability has nothing to do with it. It's those whose 6 months are up first that have it first. I've had mine as my second jab was jan.

tranquillitybase · 06/10/2021 17:05

Yes our surgery announced it today, said they are all ready to get going and people will be getting their appointment texts shortly

WreckTangled · 06/10/2021 17:08

I had mine on 25th September. My second was on 13th March.

I'm NHS and CV, my first ones were done via my trust but this time my GP surgery called and booked me in. I had my flu jab at the same time.

The day after I had booked in for the booster I got an email and SMS from the NHS saying I could now book online.

londonmummy1966 · 06/10/2021 23:05

I had mine a week ago and it’s not showing on my app

Boosters don't show on the app as it is set up to prove that you are double vaxed and the booster isn't relevant to that. However, it will be on your NHS records.

Can I put in a plea on behalf of the vaccine centres that people don't come along to ask us to put their boosters on the app as
a) we can't
b) you don't need it, and
c) we're snowed under with third jabs and 16-17 s at the moment.

CrimeJunkie01 · 06/10/2021 23:36

@Cuck00soup mine showed up on my GP record this evening. It took a week. 😊

Actually, though NHS Digital says it should go on your record within 24 hours and to call the vaccination centre if it hasn't.

It doesn't go on your COVID passport that is correct

CrimeJunkie01 · 06/10/2021 23:41

That should say 48 hours.

NotMyCat · 07/10/2021 00:33

Still waiting for my third vaccine! Heard nothing yet and my GP says they are waiting for boosters. I did email back that it was the third vaccine and not a booster but radio silence

Cuck00soup · 07/10/2021 12:58

Pleased to hear it.

At least the system works.

Eventually. Grin

CiderWithLizzie · 07/10/2021 20:07

Mine also showed up on my GP record yesterday - after a week. The vaccine centre said it would take 48 hours.
