Children are positive - parents negative?

ohmyohmy123 · 24/09/2021 17:50

Both dc have covid and are on day 6 and 7. DH and I have tested negative on 2 pcr tests and all lateral flows. We have no symptoms but neither did my youngest so I've no idea how long he had it around us before he isolated.

I'm just waiting for it to get me but wondering if it won't?

They are both isolating upstairs but I'm still taking food to them etc and talking to them about school work etc - just keeping my distance.

Are there any parents out there that didn't catch it when there children had it? Or is it just a matter of time until I get it?

Yep me and my dh, my 14 year old had covid at the start of the school holidays, and neither of us caught it, we live in a small two bedroom house with one bathroom.

kimlo · 24/09/2021 18:21

I didn't when both dd's had it. They had it seperatly not at the same time. They didn't catch it from each other and dh didn't get it either.

Geminijust · 24/09/2021 19:35

Both mine had it at the same time shortly after we got back from a UK holiday. Neither DH or I got it (negative lateral flow & pcr, no symptoms). I hope it is due to us being double jabbed as we were closer to both of them than they were to each other.

CiderWithLizzie · 24/09/2021 19:50

Are you vaccinated?

TheGrumpyGoat · 24/09/2021 19:52

I know loads of people whose kids have had it recently and the parents haven’t caught it. The joy of vaccines, eh!

ceeveebee · 24/09/2021 20:20

Our DC both have it at the moment, they are on day 7, neither DH or I have so far, had 2 PCR tests (one same day as DC, one 5 days later). Haven’t really tried to isolate them from us as they are too young for that.

ohmyohmy123 · 24/09/2021 20:28

Ah that's reassuring then - thank you!

Yes I'm double jabbed and due my booster next week.

If you’re vaccinated, you’re less likely to catch it 🤷🏻‍♀️

ItsSnowJokes · 24/09/2021 20:31

Our daughter had it over the summer. She was still hugging and kissing us as she is too little to understand. We didn't catch it at all. We did daily LFTs and 3 PCRs over the 10 days and then an antibody test a week later and all negative.

Gherkingreen · 24/09/2021 20:35

DS 15 currently has it, on day five since symptoms started, everyone else in the house has tested negative.
He's mostly in his room but shares a bathroom with other DS and has been downstairs a couple of times, but only today, he's mostly been sleeping.
Vaccine works I guess! Smile

SirVixofVixHall · 24/09/2021 20:38

Does it boost your immunity if you are exposed ? Would you develop antibodies ?
Dd had it recently but I did not catch it, although I did feel unwell. (I did three PCR tests over 12 days, think it was my system fighting it off ).

TheGriffle · 24/09/2021 20:39

Opposite way round for us, Dh and I tested positive, one day after the other (both vaccinated) both DD’s tested negative on 2 pcrs each over the 10 day period.

NauseousNancy · 24/09/2021 20:41

I tested positive 9 days after my child tested positive. Just as their isolation was about to end!

middleager · 24/09/2021 20:45

When DS2 caught it last year, none of us got it.

Now DS2 has it. I caught it (double vaccinated) but DH and DS2 (who had Covid last year) haven't.

It appears to be totally random.

middleager · 24/09/2021 20:46

Might add that last year when we avoided it, none of us were vaccinated...

mistermagpie · 24/09/2021 20:49

Two of my three children have had it at different times and my DH didn't catch it either time (I had it at the same time as one of the children but I think I gave it to him). DH was actually cosleeping with my youngest son when he had it and still didn't catch it, and this was before he had been vaccinated. I didn't get it that time either and none of us isolated or anything, DS was only 3 so I was literally wiping his bum and all that.

It's not a given that the rest of the family will get it.

1309username · 25/09/2021 06:17

Opposite to everyone from us.

DD and husband tested positive on Sunday (took test after hearing about positive in her class).

I tested positive on Tuesday.

Both fully vaccinated.

We have all had a ‘bad cold’ (temperature, cough).

First symptom for all was upset stomach (IYKWIM).

I think it’s a bit of s gamble, so I would be careful just in case.

rozzyraspberry · 25/09/2021 06:51

We were opposite too. Ds3 first, then me, then dh, then ds2.

Dh and I both double jabbed (Astra Zeneca).

Ds1 who had only just had his second jab the week before (Pfizer) didn’t get it.

Iggly · 25/09/2021 06:54

Unless you test every few days, you never truly know if you’ve got it though - you may be asymptomatic. That’s why there was a ten day isolation period as the point at which you test only tells you if you were positive then. Also the original isolation period was 14 days I seem to remember!

autumnboys · 25/09/2021 07:02

Ds2 (15) has had it in the last fortnight and Jon rod the rest of us caught it. DH and I are double jabbed, DS1 is single jabbed, DS3 was lucky. He stayed in his room, wore a mask to come out unless we sat in the garden, which we did most days. We kept the windows open too.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/09/2021 07:05

Dh and I avoided it when ds got it.

Stygimoloch · 25/09/2021 07:14

Both my children tested positive at the same time. My daughter was totally asymptomatic but my son was unwell. I slept with my son as I was worried about him. Neither I or my husband caught it. Both double jabbed. I was sure we’d get it but we had two negative PCR tests and tested negative on lateral flows for 10 days. Vaccinations doing their jobs!

DobieGrayshark · 25/09/2021 07:14

Our DC had it. We didn’t isolate them from us within the house or be careful at all really but we seemed to have escaped getting it.

Imcatmum · 25/09/2021 07:17

Our 3 yr old had it and sneezed in our faces, licked me, drank out of my glass, snuggled into my face. DH and I didn't get it.

user7012893145776 · 25/09/2021 07:19

I didn't keep my distance when dh and dd had it. Ds and I never caught it. They were both asymptomatic. Ds and I did lateral flows every couple of days and all of them were negative.
