3 children in dd’s class positive. No notification

DD just started senior school. Yesterday 3 girls were off in her form. All have confirmed COVID. She sat next to 2 of them in the last week. I’ve not been informed. Is this the norm now? Will lateral flow daily from now. on.

Does the school website not have a covid policy on it?
Our local primary one states 5 cases per class, before informing parents.

This has been handed over to Test and Trace, who will contact people who are deemed close contacts. Basically, in terms of school settings virtually nobody...

5 close contact cases now for parents to be informed. In my school anyway.

Same. We eventually got a letter after 10 confirmed cases for my ds class from school saying they advise pcr as he is close contact. I think there are now 17 in his class alone now positive. Nothing from test and trace though

It feels so strange to think a few weeks ago that would have been the whole class out for 10 days and no nothing. Well apart from being advised to take a PCR

ds is a contact of 7 kids now. No tracing done. I'm happy with new set up tho as none of the 7 have a single symptom.

That's poor, but that's the government for you. My current bugbear is that siblings of covid positive children are allowed to be in school. I can agree with bubbles going, but the lack of notifications and siblings of positive kids not having to isolate I think is pretty shocking!!

Our school are contacting anyone who sits within 1.5m of the positive case themselves and recommending they test.

My daughter was the first covid case in her class at the start of the week. They sent a message to the parents of the pupils in her class to say there was a confirmed case and advised for all the children to have a PCR.

There are now potentially 7 positive in the class (all positive LFT some confirmed with pcr, but we've had no further information from school. We only know because the parents have said on the whatsapp group.

Approximately a third of DS's year at senior school are off with Covid. Started last Thursday and we received an email on Friday evening advising all pupils to go for a pcr and there would be lateral flow testing daily for a week for those in school. DS has sat next to 3 of the off pupils on Thursday and Friday but has tested negative so far on pcr and lft. Is still going to school and test and trace have contacted us twice due to separate pupils but both times it was carry on and get a pcr and do lft twice per week. School have been balanced in this and not too over the top.

That’s normal. We aren’t informed unless there are 10 cases. It’s all passed to T&T now, rather than via the school.

It’s fine 🤷🏼‍♀️ if we have symptoms, we’ll test.. I don’t need to know about every single case.

This is the normal now. Track and trace were in non existence though when a teacher colleague tested positive 2 days after being in class on an inset day. We had pcr tests as had been in the classroom but no one else in school. track and trace never contacted her close contacts!

With a hit rate above of probably 1/4 of the class makes me suspicious that the data on cases is being surpressed

Who has a hit rate of 1/4 of the class? Our school had a few cases in the first week back in one class (we went back 24th august) but none in the school since.

Totally fucking normal and totally shit.

Dds friend has it now and he sits in front of her on the bus. No one cares anymore.

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and have been so careful. I genuinely feel like it's a matter of time.

I have a few issues this pregnancy and the thought of missing appointments is a real worry.

Lfts are not included in the official figures. Seems like they don't want the truth to be known.

LFT’s are included if you report your result, as per the advice. They’re only removed if they’re followed up by a negative PCR.

We were at 1/4 of the class yesterday. Today is 1/3 as more kids have tested positive

Our school tells us about each case. I agree with a PP that the decision to not require siblings of positive cases to isolate is absurd. I think bubbles going is probably a good thing, though.

What truth? That a highly contagious disease is going around? That's the truth, what more do you need to know?

I think people really need to have a serious word with themselves now and realise the constant vigilance and worry and counting of cases can't go on forever and it's perfectly fine to live your life and accept covid is another virus going around. There are vaccines, move on.

If you can't do it for yourself, do it for your children, who have had a massive chunk of their short childhood held hostage by a virus that poses them very very little risk. They need normality. They need the routine of going to school every day. Some of their cohort will feel ill for days here and there, they may get ill - just as they would have done in 2019 or 2018 or any other year, from all the other viruses going around.

There is more to life than covid. There is more to life than constantly living in fear. I dread to think what the long term outcome for the younger generation of this hyper vigilance and monitoring is going to be.

The ONS are reporting a drop in cases too, so looks like it’s genuine.

Our biggest testing area is now closed untill the end of the month. Make of that what you will.

Primary are emailing out that there is a positive in school if there is one. Not heard a peep from secondary.
