Sore throat only?

Awcw1234 · 10/09/2021 12:40

I have woken up today with a really sore throat.

Unfortunately I don’t have any lateral flow tests. Should I go for a PCR? I am due to go to work tomorrow morning.

Has anyone tested positive with just a sore throat?

Personally, I wouldn’t, I often wake up with a sore throat, but it goes throughout the day., but it’s up to you really.

Awcw1234 · 10/09/2021 13:02

Yeah, that happens to me sometimes too but it is getting worse, not going away.

DS woke with a mild sore throat, only lasted a day, negative LTF. We did a PCR for peace of mind and it came back positive

My dh tested positive on lateral flow with cold symptoms. I had a bit of a sore throat and got negative lateral flow, but tested positive on pcr later that day.

However if dh hadn't tested I wouldn't have thought to test as often have a sore throat.

Whatshouldicallme · 10/09/2021 15:04

Could just be the start of a cold, but I know a few people who have only had a sore throat with COVID and almost no other symptoms.

Awcw1234 · 10/09/2021 17:34

Think I’ll get myself tested just to be safe. Throat is getting worse and I’ve got a slight cough now x

It's not an official symptom although more and more people are saying it started like that for them so I would do a LFT but since you don't have them I would wait to see how things went and then book a pcr if needed

moralcompass · 10/09/2021 19:45

Oh just read your last update. Yes pcr if coughing

MorvaanReed · 10/09/2021 19:50

Ds started on Wednesday with a sore throat and snotty nose. They started to cough occasionally this morning and tested positive on LFT; we're waiting on PCR results.

So far he describes it as a cold he'd still go to school with.

x2boys · 10/09/2021 21:20

It was my sons first symptom, he tested positive at the beginning of the summer holidays, he did have a slight temperature the next day and felt achey, was fine after 48 hours

Etulosba · 11/09/2021 08:46

I have woken up with a sore throat for the last week or so. I went for a test this morning. Negative.

Awcw1234 · 11/09/2021 09:27

How did you get your results go quickly Etulosba?

I’m in a different time zone to the UK (and it was a private test).

MorvaanReed · 11/09/2021 14:49

DS' case now confirmed by PCR. It could be worse. He'll have to move into halls on the first day of freshers week instead of the Sunday. Still feels like he's got a bog standard cold. Occasional wet sounding cough and general snottiness. Sense of smell is fine and no temperature.

Awcw1234 · 11/09/2021 15:54

Sorry to hear that MorvaanReed.

I’ve just had my test. My sense of taste has gone a little strange now so part of me is thinking it will come back positive but who knows. How long did your son’s PCR take to come back? This is the first time I’ve been tested x

Fingers crossed he will be fine, my son felt fine after 48 hours, he felt rough for maybe a day and a half, if it hadent been for covid i would have maybe let him have a day or two off school but wouldn't have been unduly worried.

MorvaanReed · 12/09/2021 11:32

Awcw1234 His test was back in just over 24 hours. DH got one done at the same time as DS and his came back negative at the same time.

I had to wait until I finished work to order one. It arrived at the lab at 8pm last night according to tracking and I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting.

MorvaanReed · 12/09/2021 11:35

P. S. His sense of smell and taste went weird yesterday evening but he still describes it as a 3 on a scale on 1 to 10.

JoeMaplin · 12/09/2021 12:25

My adult son did (pre delta) said it was like bad tonsillitis. He did also generally feel rough too but a really, really sore throat.

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/09/2021 12:27

Yes, it’s quick and easy, better safe than sorry.

Whatever it is, hope you feel better soon Smile

MorvaanReed · 12/09/2021 14:27

My PCR just came back negative. Happy days. Now just need to do a Lateral flow every day and fingers crossed neither DH and I catch it.

Hurrah for being double vaxed, handwashing, open windows and dettol.

Awcw1234 · 12/09/2021 14:31

Hurrah!

I’m still waiting for my results! How do you check the tracking? Did you go to a drive through site?

I started with a sore throat and was positive. Both my teens had it so I was looking for any changes in my health. Best to get a PCR.

Wnikat · 12/09/2021 14:34

Sore throat only here and blazing positive

bizboz · 12/09/2021 14:35

This was DC's only symptom, alongside mild nausea. Only picked it up on a routine LFT.
